Shep, your continued cutting and pasting of faulty information is quite pathetic. There is a little something called figurative language that I think you should read up on. Also, check out the terms: context, metaphor, allegory, and archetype. The Bible is quite clear when it is using allegories and metaphors, but what with all your cutting and pasting instead of reading, i wouldn't expect you to understand that. Seriously, the examples you provided are poor to say the least, and indicate a poor understanding not only of scripture, but of the different uses of language. There are some genuine difficulties in the Bible, none of which you listed. I urge you to actually read, not just cut and paste.

oh, so the bible talks in metaphors.... hmmm... i believe at one time the crhistians followed it literally... good thing you change your beliefs over time to suit criticism... :dead:

i have read, and the bible is full of contradictions

these "prophecies" still don't mean shit. i can say that a messiah will come and be hated by people and it could talk about numerous people that may come along the way. still waiting for the proof of this "Truth"
You must prophesize a Messiah will come, give his lineage, say how he will die, describe the way the messiah will be killed, describe the messiahs teachings, say who your messiah will die with, and give where your messiah will die. If you are able to make these prophecy's hundreds of years in advance and if they come out accurately then and only then will I take you seriously. The truth is Jesus was not the only Messiah recognized by the Jews but if he wasn't the real messiah then by was he the only one that has survived with time?

Lev. 11:13 - 11:23 - Reference to Bats as "birds"
Let me get into :Heresy: Mode and: (shakes head)
In the Septuagint (G-r-e-e-k) the word is 'flying creature' in the Hebrew it is 'things with wings.' You really need to research shit before you just thorw it out.

Rev. 12:3, 3, 7, 9, 13, 16, 17, 13:1, 2, 4, 11, 16:13, 20:2, Deut. 8:15 - Reference to Dragons
Deut. 8:15 says Seraph Serpents. You should really get a better translation. Secondly in Revelations the dragon is symbollical. Please read what you are posting up. Do not just copy and paste.
shep said:
Gen. 1:1 & 1:2 - The Earth is created before its sun
The Hebrew Bible nowhere states that the earth, plants and daytime were created before the sun. You need to look at A before you can tell me P says this and that.
shep said:
GE 4:17 - Cain builds and populates a whole city in only two generations.
You really need to brush off on things. Genesis never says this! Think about it: Cain had a wife! There was a city. Who the hell would he make a city for? Where would he magically get a wife? There were already other people. Why do you think he is afraid when God marks him? Who would he be afraid of if there were no others?
shep said:
GE 1:12, 16 - Plants began to grow before there was sunlight.
God created the universe. Yet you find it hard for me to think this as absurd?
shep said:
GE 32:24-30 - God takes part in a wrestling match. He wins by injuring Jacob's hip. (This is one of my favorites)
(Shakes head again) No where does it say God. Please get a better translation.

shep said:
Luke 4:5 - Jesus sees "all the kingdoms of the worlds" from atop a mountain--something that could only be done, if the Earth was FLAT! It is impossible to see all the kingdoms of the world if it is a sphere.
The devil shows him 'all the kingdoms of the world!' Do not take things out of context. The devil is powerful enough to contend with God, do you doubt he is not powerful enough to show Jesus all the kingdoms in the world?
shep said:
Rev. 7:1 - Reference to "the four corners of the earth". This also suggests that the earth is flat. A sphere has no corners.
Once again revelations is symbolic! I'm not sure about the actual Hebrew translation but this could be an anachronism as I doubt the Jews ever said that phrase. 4 corners = the whole earth. It is symbolic of the earth, it is representative of the earth.
shep said:
JB 9:6 (KJV) - God shakes the earth out of its place and makes its pillars tremble. Yet another verse implying that the earth was flat.
masuq does not mean pillar. You are again incorrect!
shep said:
JS 10:12-14 God obliges Joshua by making the sun and moon stand still (so that he can finish his battle by daylight). Note that this verse implies that the sun revolves around the earth, which was "common knowledge" at that time.
Firstly this verse only implies that when the sun and the moon set a day has passed. Nothing else. Again I ask if God created the earth how is it not possible for him to lengthen a day. This is what is called a miracle.
shep said:
Lev. 11:6 - Reference to hares "chewing their cud"
The word is shaphan! not rabbit/hare/coney/etc. If you see it translated as anything then it is wrong. The word has been translated as 'rock rabbit,' 'rock badger,' etc.
shep said:
Lev. 11:21-23 - Insects (locusts, grasshoppers and beetles) called "four-legged"
*Sigh* Much like the bird/bat thing this is taken a common misinterpretation. Animals that did not walk or hop on two legs were known as 'four-legged.' it was used to diffirentiate between flying insects and birds. I find it impossible to think that they just named these animals 'four-legged' because they thought they only had 4 legs, how hard is it to kill a cricket and count the legs?

sherets {sheh'-rets}

Which means literally:
1) teeming or swarming things, creepers, swarmers
2) of insects, animals, small reptiles, quadrupeds

as you can see it is a translation error.

shep said:
Gen. 1:16 - The Moon is created as a "lesser light"
Again an error on translation. You can thank the king james bible for that one. But if you want to argue the moon (to the best of my knowledge) has no light. It simple reflects the 'greater' light of the sun, thus 'lesser' light.
shep said:
Isa. 13:21 and 34:14 - Reference to Satyrs
The word is sa‘ir. It is related se‘ar (hair). Thus hairy one. it means a goat.
shep said:
Gen. 1:16 - All other stars are created after the earth, its sun and moon, with no mention of any other planets in this solar system
Once again you are wrong. I explained it already with your sun before earth question.
shep said:
Num. 22:28-30 - Reference to talking asses (note that this could also be a reference to the Christians themselves)
Wow! how original.:dead: Only an ass would pass off these claims against the bible without studying them first. Once again God grants the ass the power of speech. Why do you find that impossible. Hypothetically speaking if there is an omnipotent God this shouldnt be out of his grasp.
shep said:
Num. 23:22 & 24:8 and Ps. 92:10 - Reference to Unicorns
God damn these translation errors! Certain poetical passages of the biblical Old Testament refer to a strong and splendid horned animal called re’em. This word was translated “unicorn” or “rhinoceros” in many versions of the Bible, but many modern translations prefer “wild ox” (aurochs), which is the correct meaning of the Hebrew re’em.
-------------------------
I won't even try to correct your other bible passages as you obviously placed more of an emphasis on the english translation than the hebrew or greek.

Jesus! This whole thread proves it. Miggidy already gave you guys prophecy's so did rectal. Search for them. And just because this is true does not mean there would be no other religions. Study a little man. Jesus lived in Judea. How could he spread his word or miracles? Who would believe a man who claimed to be a messiah? who would listen to a new fledgling cult? It would take time and by then people would doubt him.

The bat is not a bird (similar to previous)
LEV 11:13 And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
LEV 11:14 And the vulture, and the kite after his kind;

Rabbits do not chew their cud
LEV 11:6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
'Gerah', the term which appears in the MT means (chewed) cud, and also perhaps grain, or berry (also a 20th of a sheckel, but I think that we can agree that that is irrelevant here). It does *not* mean dung, and there is a perfectly adequate Hebrew word for that, which could have been used. Furthermore, the phrase translated 'chew the cud' in the KJV is more exactly 'bring up the cud'. Rabbits do not bring up anything; they let it go all the way through, then eat it again. The description given in Leviticus is inaccurate, and that's that. Rabbits do eat their own dung; they do not bring anything up and chew on it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Insects do NOT have four feet
LEV 11:21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;
LEV 11:22 Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.
LEV 11:23 But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you.

Fowl from waters or ground?
GEN 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
GEN 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Earth supported?
JOB 26:7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
JOB 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Heaven supported too
JOB 26:11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

The hydrological cycle
ECC 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
JOB 38:22 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

Storehouses are not part of the cycle

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Order of creation
Here is the order in the first (Genesis 1), the Priestly tradition:
Day 1: Sky, Earth, light
Day 2: Water, both in ocean basins and above the sky(!)
Day 3: Plants
Day 4: Sun, Moon, stars (as calendrical and navigational aids)
Day 5: Sea monsters (whales), fish, birds, land animals, creepy-crawlies (reptiles, insects, etc.)
Day 6: Humans (apparently both sexes at the same time)
Day 7: Nothing (the Gods took the first day off anyone ever did)

Note that there are "days", "evenings", and "mornings" before the Sun was created. Here, the Deity is referred to as "Elohim", which is a plural, thus the literal translation, "the Gods". In this tale, the Gods seem satisfied with what they have done, saying after each step that "it was good".

The second one (Genesis 2), the Yahwist tradition, goes:

Earth and heavens (misty)
Adam, the first man (on a desolate Earth)
Plants
Animals
Eve, the first woman (from Adam's rib)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How orderly were things created?
#1: Step-by-step. The only discrepancy is that there is no Sun or Moon or stars on the first three "days".
#2: God fixes things up as he goes. The first man is lonely, and is not satisfied with animals. God finally creates a woman for him. (funny thing that an omniscient god would forget things)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How satisfied with creation was he?
#1: God says "it was good" after each of his labors, and rests on the seventh day, evidently very satisfied.
#2: God has to fix up his creation as he goes, and he would certainly not be very satisfied with the disobedience of that primordial couple. (funny thing that an omniscient god would forget things)

Moses' personality
Num.12:3: "Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the fact of the earth."
Num.31:14, 17, 18: "And Moses was wroth...And Moses said unto them, "Have ye saved all the women alive? ... Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman, ... But all the women children ... keep alive for yourselves."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Righteous live?
Ps.92:12: "The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree."
Isa.57:1: "The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acts 1:18: "Now this man (Judas) purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out."
Matt. 27:5-7: "And he (Judas) cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. And the chief priests...bought with them the potter's field."

Jesus' first sermon plain or mount?
Matt.5:1,2: "And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying...."
Luke6:17,20: "And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people...came to hear him.. And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples and said..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus' last words
Matt.27:46,50: "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, eli, lama sabachthani?" that is to say, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" ...Jesus, when he cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost."
Luke23:46: "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, "Father, unto thy hands I commend my spirit:" and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."

John19:30: "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished:" and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

Years of famine
II SAMUEL 24:13: So God came to David, and told him, and said unto him, shall SEVEN YEARS OF FAMINE come unto thee in thy land? or will thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue. thee?
I CHRONICLES 21:11: SO God came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee. Either THREE YEARS OF FAMINE or three months to be destryed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee;

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moved David to anger?
II SAMUEL 24: And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Isreal and Judah.
I CHRONICLES 21: And SATAN stood up against Isreal, and provoked David to number Israel.

The GENEALOGY OF JESUS?
In two places in the New Testament the genealogy of Jesus son of Mary (PBUH) is mentioned. Matthew 1:6-16 and Luke 3:23-31. Each gives the ancestors of Joseph the CLAIMED husband of Mary and Step father of Jesus(PBUH). The first one starts from Abraham(verse 2) all the way down to Jesus. The second one from Jesus all the way back to Adam. The only common name to these two lists between David and Jesus is JOSEPH, How can this be true? and also How can Jesus have a genealogy when all Muslims and most Christians believe that Jesus had/has no father.

Before the cock crow - Matthew 26:34
Before the cock crow twice - Mark 14:30

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How many times did the cock crow?

LUK 22:61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

JOH 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, still thou hast denied me thrice.

JOH 18:27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

How long was Jesus in the tomb?
Depends where you look; Matthew 12:40 gives Jesus prophesying that he will spend "three days and three nights in the heart of the earth", and Mark 10:34 has "after three days (meta treis emeras) he will rise again". As far as I can see from a quick look, the prophecies have "after three days", but the post-Resurrection narratives have "on the third day".

that's why you got to ask yourself why there are so many religions to begin with, also, how do you know your religion is right? because the bible? other religions have bibles and fulfilled prophecies as well.
Trust me. I have questioned the validity of my religion. But my religion, unlike a lot of others, preaches forgiveness, love, peace, and the ability to give. Even if its all a crock of shit, I know that I have done a lot of good in my life. Hopefully enough to balance the bad I've done.

and no where in this thread has there been proof, and 2-0 has disproven the accuracy of the so called prophecies that you guys have posted, and you won't respond to the other post i made about bible faults because you know you can't and provide proof....

still waiting
Miggidy gave you the prophecys;. 2-0-sixx tried to disclaim them. I did two because I didn't have more time and because it was directed to Migg and rectal, had migg not responded I would have. That is the proof that they offered, that is the proof that was upheald and defended. If you are talking about the easter thing I can offer and answer in one word: redaction. When you can truly, not just superficially, see why so many biblical scholars (theist and atheist) alike have given years and years of their lifes to understand the purposes and reasons for redaction you will have a better understanding of my answer. Again you can say I am 'trying to dodge a bullet' but I gave you an answer. I do not feel I have to do your homework for you. Research it.

you still have not provided the correct proof. citing the debatable text at hand is not proving anything, what 2-0 and i are doing is showing the conflicts WITHIN the bible.... validate your bible using outside resources. i could prove that the white race is superior by citing mein kampf, but we all know, citing the questionable text is no proof at all.

how bout some more:

ON THE SABBATH DAY
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." -- Exodus 20:8

"One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." -- Romans 14:5

ON THE PERMANENCY OF THE EARTH
"... the earth abideth for ever." -- Ecclesiastes 1:4

"... the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." -- 2Peter 3:10

ON SEEING GOD
"... I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." -- Genesis 32:30

"No man hath seen God at any time..."-- John 1:18

ON HUMAN SACRIFICE
"... Thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God..." -- Leviticus 18:21

[In Judges, though, the tale of Jephthah, who led the Israelites against the Ammonoites, is being told. Being fearful of defeat, this good religious man sought to guarantee victory by getting god firmly on his side. So he prayed to god] "... If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands, Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering" (Judges 11:30-31).

[The terms were acceptable to god -- remember, he is supposed to be omniscient and know the future -- so he gave victory to Jephthah, and the first whatsoever that greeted him upon his glorious return was his daughter, as god surely knew would happen, if god is god. True to his vow, the general made a human sacrifice of his only child to god!] -- Judges 11:29-34

ON THE POWER OF GOD
"... with God all things are possible." -- Matthew 19:26

"...The LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron." -- Judges 1:19

ON DEALING WITH PERSONAL INJURY
"...thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. " -- Exodus 21:23-25

"...ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." -- Matthew 5:39

ON CIRCUMCISION
"This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised." -- Genesis 17:10

"...if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing." -- Galatians 5:2

ON INCEST
"Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of this mother..." -- Deuteronomy 27:22

"And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter...it is a wicked thing...." -- Leviticus 20:17

[But what was god's reaction to Abraham, who married his sister -- his father's daughter?] See Genesis 20:11-12

"And God said unto Abraham, As for Sara thy wife...I bless her, and give thee a son also of her..." -- Genesis 17:15-16

ON TRUSTING GOD
"A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD..." -- Proverbs 12:2

Now consider the case of Job. After commissioning Satan to ruin Job financially and to slaughter his shepherds and children to win a petty bet with Satan. God asked Satan: "Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause." -- Job 2:3

ON THE HOLY LIFE-STYLE
"Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart..." -- Ecclesiastes 9:7

"...they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not..." -- 1 Corinthians 7:30

ON PUNISHING CRIME
"The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father..." -- Ezekiel 18:20

"I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation..." -- Exodus 20:5

ON TEMPTATION
"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man." -- James 1:13

"And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham..." -- Genesis 22:1

ON FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS
"Honor thy father and thy mother..."-- Exodus 20:12

"If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. " -- Luke 14:26

ON RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD
"...he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. " -- Job 7:9

"...the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth...." -- John 5:28-29

ON THE END OF THE WORLD
"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. " -- Matthew 16:28

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. " -- Luke 21:32-33

"And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light." -- Romans 13:11-12

"Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh." -- James 5:8

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." -- 1 John 2:18
