you serious? Giants have a better staff on paper than the diamondbacks.. We have 3 cy young winners.
that doesnt matter because RJ isnt Cy material anymore........and Zito won that CY Young by default because Pedro Martinez decided he didnt want to make his last 2 starts of the season

the D-backs got some arms in haren and Webb......towards the back they got Garland.......they also got a kid (Max Scherzer), who i think will be their #3 that has Lincicum type stuff, high 90's fastabll that moves. if he is healthy look for him to K alote of guys out

plus they got sticks that should be coming around...................

NL West Prediction

1. Dodgers (if we sign Manny, 2nd without Manny)
2. D-Backs (1st if Dodgers DONT sign Manny)
3. Giants (1st or 2nd is a possibility if they get Manny)
4. Padres
5. Rockies

I actually think the dodgers would be 2nd, and the dbacks first.. giants in 3rd but could possibly end up in 2nd or 1st with the right offensive pick ups.

Dodgers have some holes to fill before they can be first in the NL West. 1st is wide open.. whoever has the right pieces will take this shit.

Manny would be a nice pick up.. but we can do without, I see what Sabean/Neukom are trying to do.. they're playing the waiting game.. they're going to wait to see what teams get desperate to drop their players or trade them, to free up some salary or fill gaps as well on their rosters.

What we would get with Manny would be a bat.. thats about it.. he doesn't come with very many steals or great defense. We would have to get rid of Randy Winn or Aaron Rowand.. and move Fred Lewis over, if we can land Manny though.. I'm for it, the rest of our line up can benefit from it..

The Giants starting pitchers will all have 10+ wins. All in all, I expect about 70 wins from the starting pitching alone.

I do have to admit that Cubs have a beastly Starting rotation...3 of their guys could be #1's on any other team.

–I’m hearing very little on the player acquisition front, but it’s early. The Giants might not be willing to deal young players for an impending free agent like Adrian Beltre this spring. But if they are in position to revisit the idea at the trade deadline, I hear Beltre would be excited at the prospect of coming to San Francisco. Beltre has said he actually enjoys hitting at AT&T Park, so I’m told. Now that’s something you don’t hear every day.

2:08pm: Everyone's getting a bit tired of the Manny Ramirez stuff these days, but we do have an amusing link from yesterday courtesy of MLB.com's Chris Haft. Haft spoke to Giants reliever Billy Sadler, who spent the offseason working out with Manny. Ramirez apparently picked up Sadler's tab at Athlete's Performance in Florida. Sadler had this to say about Manny's future:

"It was funny. He came in a couple of times and said, 'Billy, I'm going to be a Giant!'"

Multiyear Talks For Lincecum
By Tim Dierkes [February 17, 2009 at 1:57pm CST]

According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News, Tim Lincecum's agent is at the Giants' camp and has already had preliminary discussions about a long-term deal for his client. Lincecum is likely to be a Super Two player, meaning he'll be arbitration-eligible four times instead of the standard three. Cole Hamels' deal could be a model, in my opinion.

Giants Maintain Interest In Joe Crede
By Drew Silva [February 17, 2009 at 6:36pm CST]

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports that the Giants are still keeping an eye on free agent third baseman Joe Crede.

Special assistant Ron Schueler, who attended Crede’s workout last week, said the free-agent third baseman looked pretty agile while taking ground balls and his back appeared to hold up fine in the cage, writes Baggarly. Schueler noted that Crede appeared stronger in the upper body.

The Twins also remain interested in Crede, but talks haven't progressed too far with that club either. At last check, the 30-year-old Scott Boras client was still seeking $7MM guaranteed, plus around $4MM in incentives. That kind of asking price obviously isn't going to entice too many teams.
