all im sayin is there are other alternatives, however i realize alot of people may have not benefited from just a book itself,to me it takes more then just gaining new knowledge, but how to apply it. indie sales are down alot and i turly agree with it however i still think their is away through out all of this...

i would rather jump into a field of intrest of mine with background information before hand then to hop in w.o knowing nothing at all. the music powers book has helped countless amounts of people get further in their career......im just offering my lil bit of adivce,at the end of the day its all on you. im not a factor in any of this nor am i trying to be, i never give up and im persistant,to get better in this business i realized that i first must learn and understand what goes on behind doors and what goes on in a contract, and how to protect my music when it comes to leasing and saling beats and to make sure im getting my money worth.

support the book. knowledge should never be passed up,im always looking for a new way.hopefully we can all realize that some day....

Shit That dude Dutch is absolutly on point with this thread. For the record tho, there really isnt a L.A. independent scene to speak of. See, in L.A. there locals are superstars i.e. Snoop, Dre, Game, Cube, Black Eyed Peas, etc.
I'll have to disagree. Thats like saying the only artists out here are 40 and Too Short..They are the only ones that people outside of our market hear of because they are on the radio and on Majors. LA has a HUGE indie scene. Much bigger then ours and much more diverse. Like the Bay used to be!

texas great example, san antonio, austin, houston, and dallas all major citys all within 4-5 hourse of each other. hell houston to dallas only like 90 min i think texas can be self contained. plus houston is right next to new orleans, i mean pull a fucking map out before you say anything!
yeah, but on the flip side, u can drive for ten hours in Texas and not hit another major city and still be in the state. The north part of the state is closer to Chicago than the southern part of the state. It would take the same amount of time to get to Houston from El Paso than it would to get to L.A.

But Dutch one thing your forgettin about Nor Cal/Bay Area......it may take 6 hours to get to la but we have way more population in between the bay and la than other states do in between thier major metro areas.....

Example: i lived in Tucson, AZ for a while......whenever id go to Phoenix it was about an hour and a half drive maybe less dependin on how fast id go.....but in between Tucson and Phoenix there aint shit but hella desert.....now travel from Stoccton to San Francisco and its almost the same amount of time travel but your gonna pass at least 20-30 cities and small towns on the way that are full a people and opportunities for sales....
im guessin Texas would be similar to Arizona as well but i aint been through Texas in over 10 years.....

Great post Dutch.

I think that an artist CAN blow up in the Bay Area by only selling to "Bay Area" cities, but only if everybody gets behind the artist. I'm including the Sacramento Area & the Stockton, Modesto area. The whole area is huge. There has to be 20-30 million or more people in these areas. The only problem is the way that whoever broke down these regions into cities way back in the day, messed it up. The Bay Area is broken down into 40-50 or more cities. Houston is probably as big as the Bay Area, but it is 1 city. If an artist is from Houston, all of Houston will support that artist. If an artist is from the Bay Area, but from, let's say Vallejo, certain cities might not support that artist just because they aren't from their city. I think if the Bay Area and surrounding cities got behind an artist, they could be huge. E-40's biggest market on his last cd was Los Angeles. That album was a MUST HAVE for any real Bay Area rap fan. I bought it even though 40 gave me one for free. If all of the Bay Area rap buyers would have bought that album, he would have been platinum. Just my couple of cents...

Just to clarify before we start hurling insults at each other I LIVED in LA 9 years homie and I visit probably every other month so I am very aware of the music scene. Now some of those people u named I've heard of but I didnt mention them because they hadnt done anything significant as far as numbers or radio play. Not knockin they careers but if u lived in LA its different from the Bay. I would go in Fresh White T's in Watts and see all kinda independent shit, but aint nobody really checkin for that shit. Them niggaz be knockin they local superstars or niggaz connected to those superstars, but like I said LA is like a whole other world when it comes to entertainment, the rap game not excluded. So ignorant I think not. Maybe cuz you havent lived there and thought these dudes were dope and u just assumed they making noise. Oh and I'm sure u heard of Tech N9ne, Rich the Factor if your from the bay.

I would think 100k records is making noise...They might not be making noise in LA (which they are) but is that really the goal? NO! Thats the whole point of this thread, getting outside of your local market. Chino XL just turned down a shady aftermath deal, thats making noise. Crooked I is on the Wake up Show every other week and was signed to Deathrow for years, thats making noise. If a tree falls in the middle of the forrest, does it make noise? Cuz if I know who these guys are and Im 10 hours away...THATS MAKING NOISE!
Didnt mean to insult you though....I take it all back!

I can only comment and say that Vegas is not just a tourist town. We are coming up on almost 2 million people and still one of the fastest growing cities in America. The bay is huge out here and if you rappers would get off the strip and network with people who live here you could do it a lot bigger.
