Dutch is on some absolute real shit. Back in the day, there were MAYBE 3 new Bay Rap albums on the shelves in The Wherehouse per MONTH. Now you have to sift through piles of shit, can't even do that at Wherehouse anymore. I've said it since 1999 - if you're not doing it for the love of the music, don't do it. My boy Scooter is doing it with Hoodstarz right now cuz he has STUCK WITH IT for the love of the music - he for sure wasn't gettin rich off features and shit for the last few years.

I was born in the Midwest, Illinois to be specific. If you blow up in a small town there, before you know it, Michigan, Wisconsin, St. Louis, etc is all buying your albums, NOT burning them. It's wild man. Of course I want to see OUR music blow up out here - we just need to let EGO'S go, LEARN the REAL business and get back to making REAL HEARTFELT MUSIC.

at least you are civil. ill take civil on the internet all day everyday!

i love the bay area. and there is no place like it on the planet period. ive been all over the country and "everywhere else" is a great place to visit but the bay is the only place i will ever call home. plus i do just fine when i take my road trips, but it all starts with bay area game...... which i got living and breathing right here in the bay!

no 2 situations are the same. mine works for me. im just trying to sprinkle some game on these newbies. trying to let them see first hand what they are up against.

im out for the night catch yall tomorrow for more of the bay area reality rap show!

i feel ya i love livin in Northern Cali as well but im not above moving somewhere else to better my situation.....and if you watch that Yukmouth footage Chinese Mike put up last night he was speakin on that subject....he said he moved to LA cuz there is so much shit down there goin on......once you start makin money like that you can come home and visit on a regular but shit even if you were able to make money like that here in the Bay you still gonna have to travel a lot anyways so its not like you gonna be livin here anymore youll be livin on planes and buses and in hotels.....might as well have houses in them good location......

if i wanted to be a marine biologist and i lived in Kansas i would know enough to move closer to an ocean........

texas great example, san antonio, austin, houston, and dallas all major citys all within 4-5 hourse of each other. hell houston to dallas only like 90 min i think texas can be self contained. plus houston is right next to new orleans, i mean pull a fucking map out before you say anything!

In my opinion, I think too many artists have expectations that the odds aren't willing to fulfill. If you are an indie artist you have to ask yourself these questions! 1. Why am I making music? 2. What do I expect to get in return for my hard work? 3. Will the result from the necessary sacrifices for success out weigh my expectations? 4. Do I understand what it's going to take to live comfortably off of my music alone?
I wouldn't tell anybody to stop following their dreams, but definitely take the time to do the proper homework so you don't have a rude awakening. If you're making music for the love of the art and you're determined to be the best you can be, it's safe to say that you will be successful. My definition of success is taking positive steps towards your ultimate goal while overcoming the obstacles in your way one step at a time. I guess what I'm saying is, it's ok to shoot for the stars, but following a tighter game plan with smaller attainable goals with less expectations will give you better results.

I might of got off the subject a little bit, but I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents!

Like 40 said years ago "it's who you know not how good you are". Me personally, I have had 3 projects drop in my career but nobody here on BART could name one song I have done. Why ? Because I'm not buddy buddy with anybody on here however outside of the U.S. like Europe and Japan people write me all the time or call me and ask when my next project is coming out. Which suits me just fine because the market there are much larger and people aren't caught up on music having to be Hyphy or about smoking weed or killing people. I don't collaborate with Bay artists much because it's hard to find an artist here that raps about a wide range of subjects that will get down for the love of it.

Its obvious making it in this game does not consist of good music anymore. There was a day an age where being a dope lyricist actually mattered but those times are long gone ie: 85% of radio. Its who u know, where they are at in their career, what there business sense is like and what they are willing to do for you. It is extremely hard to create and keep a buzz in our oversaturated, non supportive market. This is not frustration talking, this is fact. There are a handful of rappers in the Bay who have "made it" independently. But refer to my last post. What is making it independently? Is it 45k a year in record sales and 30k in features? Well that is not making it in any career in the Bay. The manager at In and Out Burger clears 80k a year.

This problem in the Bay has existed for the last 12 to 14 years. Thats why we created the independent Rap Hustle that others came in, stole and perfected. How were they able to perfect it????? They were outside of the Bay! Cash Money = 80 Million, Lil Flip = 80 Million etc etc. Both in a market that supports their indie artists and with 5 to 10 states all within a hop skip and a jump away to expand their fan base.

So does good music really speak for itself like the dude from "Warner Bros" said in his earlier post? Good music falls on def ears. If the Bay isnt supporting it then we dont know youre making it. If we dont know you exist then how can we buy it? The fact is the Bay supports one genre of local rap music and thats Hyphy. Does that mean that the only good music coming out of the Bay is Hyphy? Cuz I dont see the record sales by any one artist to match the statement. Not including 40 or Short.

Understood homie..But its no career in the Bay as a whole. I would think the goal is to get out of your situation and not get comfortable there..right? Gas is 4 dollars a gallon and 250 a month depending on the car u drive, housing is 1800.00 a month for a small 2 bedroom, buying is 800k to a Mill with a 3500 dollar monthly low end mortage payment for a decent house, day care is 1000.00 a month depending on how many kids and how old, a car note is 300 to 600 a month and food is another 250 a month etc etc. Not too mention keeping the lights on in that house, water running, clothes on the kids backs and your chains hangin below the neckline. I see what youre saying, but this is the long term goal. To be comfortable! And if you can barely afford the shit i just posted above (which I cant) then you still arent comfortable. And those statistics dont change depending on where in the Bay u live. Thats the Bay in a whole homie!

You dont wanna raise your family in your same soroundings just because you wanna settle for bein a rapper and makin independent rap money. You wanna better your career for them and if them dont exist now then they will someday!

Shit That dude Dutch is absolutly on point with this thread. For the record tho, there really isnt a L.A. independent scene to speak of. See, in L.A. there locals are superstars i.e. Snoop, Dre, Game, Cube, Black Eyed Peas, etc.

bottomline dutch is that hustle, promotion, image and things like that get you sells. Oh and did i forget to mention a good budget. BUt the most important thing that is lacking in cali is unity. Period pointblank. Some people are not leaders but you got all these chiefs not knowing that they are truly indians. So you got a bunch of chiefs over nothing but their own fucken TeePee's. When in reality some of them cold actually be something if they just play thur true roles and get in where they fit in. The best followers make the best leaders but most in the west are 2 arrogant to humble themselves and play a helping role and intil that happens its not gonna be good. So basically what u were saying has no solid ground to stand on.
