If you want to dig deep to the root of the problems within the bay area music scene, you have to start with the music itself.
The lack of creativity in bay music manifests itself in the overuse of the 808 drum kit. Why are cats still using it you ask? Because people like Lil Jon created hits with it, "producing" software is cheap, easily accessible and the 808 drum kit is a standard kit that comes stock with a lot of midi production software.
I'll say it again, when you have a hit record that has an easily reproducable and highly accessable element to it, you will inherently find copy cats who want to capitalize off of the success of the original by creating something that sounds similar. Master P is a perfect example of this.
Everybody's got the "game" too figured out. Everybody seems to know that familiarity will sell and that's why you get such a saturation of the same bullshit.
Not saying this is the only reason why bay music sucks, but it's definitely a contributing factor.
