All forms of life destroyed because of one imperfect species - Genesis 6:5,7, 7:23.
it was destroyed because of sin and crossbreeding.

Human sacrifice commanded by God - Leviticus 27:28,29.
leviticus 27:28,29 deals with DEVOTION and is NOT HUMAN SACRIFICE.

God agrees that Jephthah sacrifices his daughter as a thanksgiving - Judges ll:29-40.
god agree to NOTHING. the man made the vow and HE honored it. please read the scriptures again.

God sends ten plagues on Egypt because Pharaoh won't release the Hebrews, but he deliberately hardens Pharaoh's heart so he refuses to release the Hebrews making these plagues necessary in the first place - God admits this is so he can perform 'his wonders' (Exodus ll:9), ie. wholesale mass slaughter of life in Egypt - Exodus 7:3-4,l3-l4, l0:l,20.
EYE FOR AN EYE. TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.......FOR EVERY EGYPTIAN CHILD WHO DIED A HEBREW CHILD DIED.......IN FACT THE HEBREWS DIED FIRST.

LOOK IM GONNA STOP HERE (I HAVE TO GO). THIS IS SOME SERIOUS CUT AND PASTE ACTION.........

God sending a plague???? Like I said, nice god.

I dont know how the fuck fools be eatin this garbage up. Read the bible, digest that shit, and you'll realize either how fucked up god is or what a bunch of bull shit it is. I have absolutely no respect for people who believe everything in the bible. Ya thats right, I said it, so what? And dont come dissing saying "oh, you judge people on their beliefs?" Damn straight I do.

The bible is a bunch of fantasy stories and make belief garbage. Dont debate with quotes from a bible because that doesnt mean anything.

Over 80 Replies and NOT ONE RATIONAL ANSWER. All I asked was a simple question, come with a rational answer if you can.
If someone were to ask me why Im an Atheist and is there a rational reason, I would brake that shit down logically.

Thank you Theists for supporting the hypothesis I came up with years ago. Thank you so much.

lol @ rational answer

are u still trippin off that shit?? :cheeky:

oh well, here's one of the possible answers.... i'l try and explain as best as i can:

People believe in god because they feel theres a higher power looking down upon them giving them a few blessings, and allowing a few woes to occur.

My aunt got a friend who was diagnosed cancer, but couldn't go through chemotherapy because she was pregnant. She could abort the baby and save her life, or wait on the baby and risk losing her life. When she had the baby, she went to get the chemotherapy, but before that, she ran another test to see how much damage she's gone through, and behold: there was not a trace of breast cancer in her. And the tests she took during the early stages of her pregnancy showed that she had cancer, and no mistakes were made during the testing.

now she believed GOD was involved in this miraculous situation.... because people think that theres someone up there in control of their destiny and can make good things happen. so in god they trust to make sure that everything stays straight. you win some, you lose some.

in short, people believe theres a god because THEY BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE IS IN CONTROL FOR ALL THE GOOD THAT OCCURS IN THEIR LIFE. THEY PRAY TO GOD THAT THINGS GO WELL, AND WHEN THEY DO GO WELL, THEY THANK GOD FOR IT.

for god's sake, let them be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now before you ask why people think that god is the representation for all the good things, remember that you plain and simply can't go further than this. There's some complex questions in the world where you can ask a series of 'why?' questions in order to retrieve an answer, but you can only go so far..... and what i've said on here is the farthest you can take it...

<I apologize for being absent to this thread; I'm in school and work, so I dont have as much time to spend on the net as I used to..

Origionally I wrote a long reply that had many detailed experiences in my life that I was willing to share. But I had to rethink my point I am going to prove- plus I refuse to get too personal on the net and be exploited, but will still share a few instances....

But basically, I believe in a higher power becasue I have been through too much in life-_-_-to the point where there was no possible way that I could have ever made it over the hurdles that I have jumped or the periods of tribulations that I have perservered through. Also, I have seen paranormal auras of energy that only I can explain. I have heard voices in my conscience that have reconfirmed my belief and restored my faith in Him. I dont know about you, spiritually speaking, but I know I am not alone.

Uhhhh ohhhhhhh.....It's time for BaSICCally to drop some knowledge.

So why does one need to be rational about belief in God? who are you to say what is rational and what is not? Christianity has been around for over 2000 years. You have been around for probbly 18-25. You now make the criteria for rationality. So with that said. What exactly can be rationalized about God. Science obviously can't prove the existance or non-existance of God. We discussed this earlier. So what can God be judged on. Well by faith. When I mean faith like knowing that God exists. By what? rational feelings. I know God exists because my feelings tell me so. I know I ate Corn Pops this morning. You can't tell me other wise because you weren't there. So therfore my argument is rational. If I were to say mabey I ate a bowl full of grass then mabey I would be irrational. But I know what I do and hold strong beliefs about God. I feel that they are rational. What more do you want? People go to church, help others, pray and read the Bible with rational minds. MOST, not all theists are rational people. Some do A LOT of things I do not agree with. Who am I to judge. Who are YOU to judge. What have you done in your life that should be looked at as great?

If I were to run around saying that I pray and talk to Santa Claus' and that he will be comming to see me tomorow. Then yes I would be irrational. Reconzie that theists pray to God and not to Santa Claus. Look at this thread, 7 pages about something that does not exist? why would we spend 7 pages on Santa Claus. This is 7 pages about the rational reason of the existance of God. Why are you wasting your time talking about God, if he does not exist? Make sense? Why do pepole read the Torah, New Testament, Pali Texts, and the Koran? why don't they read and study Oprah's books? It's obvious whoever wrote holy books knew WAY to much about humans and their minds to be human's themselves.

I get into my car everyday not knowing how my breaks work or not. But I trust my life with it everyday. That to me is rational. For me to not fully understand how my breaks work or what they are made of does not shake my faith. I still get into my car.

That brings me to another point. How can God send plauges and kill other people? How this God that is suppose to be full of love and let planes fly into buildings and kill innocent people? Good question. Something I truly can't answer. But I can say this. Why should God reveal why he does what he does? Who are you to make the guidelines of rationality and what is full 'good'? Who are you? Did you create yourself? So if God thought that killing people was all that bad then I feel he would create them in the first place. The RISK was strong enough to create and allow people to die. Keep in mind, God created the devil. I could go into a little more depth about that. But I will not. If God does not exist you better be 100% sure. Cause when the lights go out who knows what happens? You better be sure that your rational mind can prove to yourself that nothing will happen. I know you can prove to me otherwise. Therefore I still believe.

...yea, I'm protected...

Today an interesting thing has happend to me; as I was walking up the stairs on my way to class, I was stopped by an older gentleman who was working for the university as a painter and he saw me with a micky deez bag and said "hey, let me have one of those sandwiches," so I said he could have one knowing in my heart that charity is the greatest of all loves. After he asked me for the sausage buscuit, I pulled it from the sack and offred it to him, but he insisted that I keep it beacuase he didnt want the sandwich. As he spoke to me he looked directly into my eyes and he addressed me as his "brother" and told me to read the 91st chapter of psalms and to pray and ask god to continue to be with me, for he proclaimed that "surely I have the victory." As he walked down the stairs he praised the lord and told me to ask it in "jeezus'is" name. I did not find this odd, for to me, I interpreted this incident as confirmation. On Wednesday, I emailed a friend of mine from NY that I had met down here at the library one day when I was slizzit, and we discussed religion and god and such. Well, I had forwarded her a religious based message that I received from someone else and she happened to be online when I did so. She emailed me back and said that she had ben thinking about me and wanted to know if there was anything that she could ask god to do for me, becasue she wanted to pray for me. I wrote her back and asked her to pray that god would continue to reveal himself to me in my life.
What happened today was just an example of divine intervention, for god is very real in my life. I had never seen this man before a day in my life. I didnt tell this man that I beleived in god, or that I was looking for any spiritual guidence- he just came out and presneted himself and his message.
Did you know that we as humans are prone to entertain angelic hosts?
When I got to class, I sat outside the door and ate both of my Micky deez specials (two hashbrowns & 2 susage biscuits w/ strawberry jelly). Afterward I walked inside the classroom and sat in the center of the class about three seats up from the front (I usually sit in the front seat of the class) and a human being of caucasian decent sat down next to me w/ a closed bible on his desk. The whole hour in the back of my mind I was thinking about asking dude to read his bible...After class I introduced myself and asked to read the 91st psalm...he said "oh I know that one.." and when I flipped the bible to that particualr chapter he had it highlighted and outlined with the words "army" written out next to the first three verses of scripture- he said that he was going to the army and said that he had personally memorized that passage of scripture, just in case he ever goes to battle.
Coincidence? Of course not. Just the prayers of saints being answered and manifested in the life of a youth ingulfed in a sinful world bobmarded with blatant lies and cunning decisiveness. A lie cannot stand alone my friend, but the truth is able to outlast any deceptiveness and can never be proved false. Thank you for you time reading this post.

Re: ...yea, I'm protected...

"Coincidence?"

It is a crazy life when you live with God in your life. I know exactly what you are talking about. I have had those "coincidence" experiances as well. It just makes you shake your head and say ohhh my God is this really happening. The irony of life sometimes is too much. Another thing that I have noticed is the poor people. I have had experiances with homeless people. The thing that amazes me is how if you just give them a dollar their saying God bless you. They have nothing yet their praising you and God. They have pretty much nothing yet they still can understand and love God.

All I can say is if your life is turned to believing in God everything changes. Seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing. I am sure everyone who believes in God on this board can tell us about an 'experiance' with God. It is that experiance the non-believers can not comprehend. The Bible doesn't prove the existance of God. God proves the existance of the Bible.

Ohhh yeah im not a susuage bisscutt fan. I am all about the egg mc muffins.

Am I rational?

I would love to be disproved. Mabey you can solve the question of humanity since the begining of existance.

yeah, i myself have many "coincedences" all of the time, does that mean there is a god, no. crazy shit happens in this world everyday, shit that you think to yourself "what were the chances of that", but is that proof of excistence of god, i dont think so.

and i love how people keep saying to disprove it. yet no proof has been presented to prove anything.

i dont know if somebody already said this cuz i'm not about to read 7 pages worth of posts, but why can't we just respect other people's beliefs. i'm an atheist, but i dont go around asking people why they believe in God, or why they believe what they believe. i keep my beliefs to myself, and i hope everyone else can, too.

@ redstorm. what is wrong with discussing your beliefs with others. im not pushing atheism on anyone, i just wanted to know why some of you chose to believe in certain things.
