DONT KILL THE MESSENGER BREH...

HERE'S THE ARTICLE.

MMA Fighting on Facebook.

Feb 6, 2012 - In the hours after Carlos Condit's close but unanimous decision win over Nick Diaz at UFC 143, UFC president Dana White seemed to warm up to the possibility of a rematch between the two. After all, it may be nine months or more until division champion Georges St-Pierre returns to fight the interim champion, a lengthy wait.

But at least for now, the Condit camp seems uninterested in the possibility of Condit-Diaz II. On Monday afternoon, his manager Malki Kawa told MMA Fighting that the new interim champion would be much more likely to set his sights on unifying the interim and linear titles.

"At this point, [a rematch] is not something we’re looking to do," he said. "We're looking for Georges. People forget, Carlos waited a long time to get this fight. He was moved around, and shuffled around between fights. He won the fight. It doesn't interest us at all. I think clearly and decisively, he won the fight. Even [UFC president] Dana [White] scored it for him. All of the opinions that matter scored Carlos as winner."

In addition to pointing out the unanimous judges' decision as well as White's opinion, Kawa noted that fight statistics showed Condit out-landing Diaz. FightMetric stats had Condit landing 159 total strikes, and Diaz landing 117.

"It was a performance that was excellent," Kawa said. "He picked apart a very formidable fighter. Two judges saw it four rounds to one, and one saw it three to two. The fact that he didn't stand and bang with him? I'm sorry, not every fighter has to do that. He did what he had to do, and that goes to show me that this guy is mature, he's fighting fights that are smart.

"People are like, 'Oh, Carlos is not a finisher,'" he continued. "The guy threw how many spinning elbows? How many spinning back fists? He threw a flying knee. He tried to finish Nick Diaz when the time and the opening was there. I can't find a flaw in his performance."

Even in defeat, Diaz managed to steal the spotlight from Condit by saying he would retire due to his frustration with the judging. Kawa said that was no concern of Condit's, whose only goal has been to be the champion.

After a six-month training cycle due to various opponent switches, Condit will take some time off before he finalizes his next move.

"Carlos is a fighter," Kawa said. "At the end of the day, this is not a guy who wants to sit around and wait. He wants to fight. You never know. Right now, the idea is that we want Georges St-Pierre. The goal is to fight Georges St-Pierre. He wants to be the best in the world, so that's the fight that interests us at this moment."

And as for a rematch first?

For now, forget it. Though it's ultimately Condit's decision, his manager and advisor isn't keen on it.

"The fans disagree [with the decision] because they got hyped up to see Nick & Georges fight each other," Kawa said. "Well, let them fight each other. We’ve moved on."

sooooooo wasn't the point of the interim title so a 170lb championship could be defended while GSP is out for 9 more months......so now even the interim title won't be defended for another 9 months? LOL let's get an interim interim Champion

There is a lot of dumbasses in this thread that hella hate on Diaz.... Out of that shitty Jackson camp, Cerrone, and Condit were my two favorites. I been watching Carlos since the wec days and allllways thought he was dope. Never once in my life have I ever seen Carlos back pedaling trying to squeak out a decision and looking for points. Nick pressured him, knocked his head back, and basically made Carlos defend his game the whole fight. So if you think Carlos won by stepping back and occasionally throwing leg kicks than go tweet Dana white into changing the name to the "ultimate defense championships" I bet you think Forrest Griffin hella beat Rampage too huh

Even Joe Rogan has come out and said he thinks Diaz won after re-watching the fight. Condit landed almost 70 leg kicks and Nick was still chasing him until the very end of the fight. Aldo landed around 30 vs Faber and Urijah could barely stand in the 3rd round. Condit was throwing his strikes with the intention of earning points. Period. If this appeals to you then you're exactly what's wrong with this sport and it's judges. Sick of these point fighters. This shit aint TKD or Karate point fighting. This shit is MMA and the reason I got into this sport in the beginning was because unlike boxers these dudes all came to fight. You don't have to stand in front of someone and exchange bombs, but I want to see you do everything in your power to finish the fight.

I've never competed in a brazilian jiu jitsu tournament or done a muay thai smoker and gone in with the mind set "oh yeah Im going to try and win by out pointing this guy". Maybe it's just me but fuck that I go for the kill.

Even the fight metric stats are iffy, fight metric even counts all leg kicks that get checked.

Cyborg had Diaz limping after one round with leg kicks, Condit couldn't get him to limp after 5. Point fighting is garbage.

* I'm a professional photographer and I shot the event. I originally thought the fight was very close and I had Condit winning but only slightly. This was at the fight. And to be honest after the last round I wanted Diaz to get the win because I would have loved to see him go against GSP even though I felt point wise Condit still won more rounds. However once I got to working on the photos my whole perspective changed. I shot over 1500 photos, and took pictures of ever exchange and what I quickly noticed is that Condit was out striking Diaz around 5 to 1. Diaz barely connected when he exchanged with Condit, mainly because Carlos was turning away or when he did strike and Diaz countered Condit has good technique in that he keeps his shoulders up and chin to shoulders so it protects him from getting hit in the face and a lot of times Diaz was hitting his shoulders. Also for the shots where Diaz did connect looks like for the most part there wasn't a lot of power behind the shots, expecially that instance when Diaz had Condit against the cage and was hitting him with body shots. After going through over 1000 photos it was clear that the fight wasn't even close not as much as I believe it was or who a lot of people thinking Diaz won believe. Diaz is entertaining and I believe would have made a more fun and interesting match up to GSP, but Condit clearly out did him and won that fight so I have to give him all the credit.*"

LOL, yes because throwing spinning elbows and backfists are sure fire ways of ending a fight. Don't mind Condit getting a win, but saying he was going for a finish is absolute bullshit. The gameplan was to win a decision, and that's what bugs me. For an organization that pushes "Never leave it in the judges hands." it sure seems like Greg Jackson has that in his playbook often.

Good for his fighters, but from a paying customer's perspective, a bit different.

And I get the whole "A fighter has got to do what he has to do to win" angle. I don't care about that. Floyd Mayweather fights the same way, and I hardly ever feel like I'm getting my money's worth when I pay to see him.

I understand that Condit almost never fights like this, so it isn't a knock against him personally. Just want to see guys out there trying to finish fights, and not take advantage of a flawed scoring system and incompetent judges.
