So Machida is supposed to be the Pernell Whitaker of the UFC? lol there goes that comparison. wish I didn't stream this..
As good as Machida might be all it takes is another great fighter to make him seem much more "down to earth". I don't watch a whole lot of boxing but, say if Pacquiao fought Mayweather, perhaps pretty boy isn't such a stud in the ring anymore? Certainly not one to make comparisons between the two sports but when you match two great fighters (which these were) then often the dominance that seemed ever-present in each of them dwindles and caution seems to prevail. Of course, that is not always the case.

As for regretting even streaming the fight.. I will say it was far from being the most exciting fight this year :ermm:

Dana White: "I think there will be a rematch" between Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua
by John Morgan on Oct 25, 2009 at 5:05 am ET
LOS ANGELES – Never one to bite his tongue, UFC president Dana White didn't take long to express his feelings on the main event of Saturday night's "UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun" in Los Angeles.

"I thought 'Shogun' won the fight," White said as UFC 104's post-fight press conference opened.

White was just as displeased as most fans in attendance at Staples Center, as well as the majority of viewers at home, that champion Lyoto Machida was awarded a unanimous-decision win over challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. But unlike the rest of those complaining, White can schedule a rematch – and it looks like he will.

"I think there will be a rematch," White said. "I talked to both of them, and they both agreed to a rematch."

The five round affair between Machida and Rua proved difficult to score. With both fighters remaining patient while picking and choosing their shots, neither outright claimed any of the frames. White said that's a behavior that needs to change moving forward.

"One of the things I always tell these guys is 'You can't leave it in the hands of the judges,'" White said. "You just can't do it. But at the end of every round, neither one of the guys went after it. Neither guy tried to steal the round.

"You saw it a lot in boxing – and these guys have got to learn it in MMA – is when that 30 seconds is left, go after it and try to steal that round. Neither one of them did it throughout the fight."

It was that inability to steal rounds that led to the hotly disputed decision. But while White claimed he felt Rua earned the win, the UFC exec admitted the rounds were close.

"When you go round-by-round and you score the fight, I actually had Machida winning the fight up until the third round," White said. "The first round could have gone either way. I gave the second and third to Machida. And then I gave the fourth and fifth to 'Shogun.' Assuming that 'Shogun' won the first, fourth and fifth, he wins the fight.

"I knew it was going to be a tough one. I knew it was going to be strategic. It was everything I thought it would be, except they should have pressed more and gone after it at the end of the rounds and tried to really pull out the rounds and make it easier to score. It was a tough fight to score."

White said he would have to figure out when a rematch could take place, but he think it should be the next fight for each competitor. And White said his motivation for scheduling a rematch has as much to with his desires as a fan as much as his concerns as a businessman.

"That's me the fight fan (and) the businessman," White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "Whatever you want to call me, I want to see this fight again."

It's funny how none of that karate shit worked against a fighter with real muay thai skills. Immediate fucking rematch is demanded. Shogun is the true UFC light heavyweight champion. I love both Shogun and Machida, but this is the biggest bullshit in UFC history. I thought Bisping vs Hamill was bad, but this easily tops it.
Best thing to come out of this fight, and relating to the post...

When Bisping-Hamill happened I had $10 on Bisping with my friend, and after the decision I told him he didn't have to pay me after such a bullshit decision. Tonight I had Shogun for $10 and my friend returned the favor and didn't make me pay for it.
Funny thing is betwen 104 and Dream.12, we did $1 per fight besides the UFC main event, and I ended up $1 up on him lol.

the more I think about it, that decision makes less and less sense. It couldn't have been a fix, there's nothing to gain out of it. If Shogun wins it sets up a fight with Anderson, Rashad/Thiago winner, rematch with Forrest, rematch with Rampage (if he comes back), Lil Nog/Banha Cane winner. Machida won't fight Anderson or Lil Nog since they train together and he beat Thiago/Rashad too recently to give either of them a rematch... I guess the UFC's inaction on getting judges that are competent finally bit them in the ass.

I hear you all. They have both agreed to a rematch.
from Dana's twitter

btw I was impressed with Shogun's cardio. Even tho it may seem like he was just laying back and throwing leg kicks, those leg kicks take more energy than exchanging punches. Looks like his problem definitely was his injuries/surgeries.

I think it should have been a draw, but aint mad at the decision...and I couldve cared less who won.....first let me say..I noticed...

The announcing was one sided..."Shogun this, Shogun that" even when Machida hit Shogun in the face the announcer would not mention that but say great counter by shogun...that was funny in itself
Machida is the champ and was never in any trouble. I agree in order to win a champ you got to beat the champ. I do think Shogun controlled the tempo, was actively coming forward most the fight, but besides the leg kicks there was not much else. I understand the effects of leg kicks (I actually fought MMA in late 90's) Although you could see the physical marks of the kicks on Machida, as well as his reaction to each kick, he continued to come forward as well ( although you could see his stance was not as wide as usual in the later rounds, and he was not bouncing in his stance..which is due to the kicks to his legs. In saying that should a champ lose because he was getting kicked in the legs for five rounds. I do not think so. Machida did not beat him in any way though and thats why a draw would have made more sense.

when the champ looks defeated in the ring and then speaks in the interview after as if he was defeated, that ussually means he lost the fight! It was hard for me watching the fight to even give machida one round and for the 3 judges give him atleast 3 of 5 five rounds is very dissapointing for a mma fan.....
