I don't think the UFC in any way benefits from this because with Shogun as the winner you have a LHW title fight of Shogun vs. Silva which would bring in loads more attention and money as opposed to having Machida remain the champ and fight the next contender. Was it an error in judgement by ALL 3 officials? Is there something more to it?
the more I think about it, that decision makes less and less sense. It couldn't have been a fix, there's nothing to gain out of it. If Shogun wins it sets up a fight with Anderson, Rashad/Thiago winner, rematch with Forrest, rematch with Rampage (if he comes back), Lil Nog/Banha Cane winner. Machida won't fight Anderson or Lil Nog since they train together and he beat Thiago/Rashad too recently to give either of them a rematch... I guess the UFC's inaction on getting judges that are competent finally bit them in the ass.
You asshole! :chinese:

I think it should have been a draw, but aint mad at the decision...and I couldve cared less who won.....first let me say..I noticed...

The announcing was one sided..."Shogun this, Shogun that" even when Machida hit Shogun in the face the announcer would not mention that but say great counter by shogun...that was funny in itself
Machida is the champ and was never in any trouble. I agree in order to win a champ you got to beat the champ. I do think Shogun controlled the tempo, was actively coming forward most the fight, but besides the leg kicks there was not much else. I understand the effects of leg kicks (I actually fought MMA in late 90's) Although you could see the physical marks of the kicks on Machida, as well as his reaction to each kick, he continued to come forward as well ( although you could see his stance was not as wide as usual in the later rounds, and he was not bouncing in his stance..which is due to the kicks to his legs. In saying that should a champ lose because he was getting kicked in the legs for five rounds. I do not think so. Machida did not beat him in any way though and thats why a draw would have made more sense.
I agree with this 100%. At one point Shogun landed a kick to the body and Rogan busted a nut- but at the same time Machida was landing an over hand right which made Shogun wobble for just a second, completely unnoticed. This shit was sooo fucking annoying. But I agree with everything you said.

Shogun won 4 rounds easily the only round that machida may have won was round 2 which he was losing but because he became aggressive at the end of the round he stole it but other than that it was all shogun......April fools came a little late for the UFC

Complaining about the announcers has nothing to do with how the judges render their decision. The UFC announcing is often one sided for whatever reason. Just go back and watch any Chuck Liddell fight.

Can't blame Cecil Peoples for this one because it was a UD

Ill say it once and ill say it again, the california state athletic commission are idiots when it comes to assigning judges in a sanctioned mma event. How retarded can you be to appoint judges that dont know shit on how to score a fight....

I haven't seen the MMA forums this riled up since The talks of Fedor signing with the UFC. Don't turn this into a "UFC>Boxing, Boxing>UFC" Piss Contest. The card was great IMO. I'm A huge fan of both Machida and Shgun, and clearly Shogun won that fight. Shogun showed us two things that night. PRIDE SHOGUN is here to stay and Machida is human. I know I'ma catch heat for this but IMHO that fight was too close to call.. Even if Shogun walked away with the belt you can guarantee that a rematch with Machida would have been in order. People need to calm the fuck down though. Shogun got robbed period and now he'll be fighting again for what is rightfully his. THIS rematch I can't wait to see. Mark my words that their next encounter will be explosive.

**Side note: Couldn't help to feel for Shogun Once the cameras went into his locker room. Dude busted his ass off for nothin'.

in reality i do feel for shogun.. and machida both... neither wants to win or lose in that fashion..... machida wants a decisive win... as does shogun.... but neither of them pulled the trigger.... but i also do belive that shogun did NOT deserve to be there.... yea he knocked out liddell... but lately who hasnt? in that case why not have given jardine a title shot.... beating liddell and coleman is not a HUGE accomplishment and shouldnt have put him in line for a shot... he got the title shot bc rampage wanted to do TUF 10... not taking anything away from shogun, hes a terrific fighter... but i think he needed at least one more fight to really earn the title shot.

The one thing that really bothered me about Machida is that he is supposed to be a honorable, disciplined man with integrity yet he didn't acknowledge he lost the fight and just said that the judges said he won so he won. Shit even Rampage had the balls to man up to Ninja and say he lost that fight in Pride. Lost a little respect for Machida.

Why would he do that to the UFC/judges by saying he lost after the present him the belt? I think the way he handled it WAS honorable and very professional. He diverted the question to the scorecard, apologized to the crowd, and said he would "try again" in a rematch. How can you lose respect for him after reacting like that? The Rampage fight was different because HE LOST. If they announced he had won the fight I highly doubt that, while wearing the belt, Rampage would have said "he kicked my ass".

did anyone else hear machida's corner in between rounds telling him he was winning??
No I didn't but its funny that you said that. When we were watching the fight Machida seemed to be completely held back (I know he was hurting) and made very few attempts to attack. These were the actions of a typical fighter who is ahead in the fight and chooses to take it easy and win through a decision. I was even telling everyone his corner probably has him convinced he has the fight, which was why he was content with the time expiring.

What are you talking about? I'm talking about Rampage vs Ninja. Rampage won the fight, and then told Ninja he was the true winner and tried giving him the winner's trophy.

All the fighters at the post conference including Dana said Lyoto lost. He should of manned up and said he lost too instead of pointing out that the wack ass judges said he won. He knows he was handed a gift. He was even surprised when they announced the decision.

My bad I thought you were talking about Forest/Rampage.

Still Lyoto IMO acted professionally. And I'm not even saying he won. He said the judges ruled in his favor and "i'm sorry", "I'll try again"; this to me is enough. When they asked him if he thought he won, I don't remember him ever saying that he did.
