Giants all over the board with hitting options — 7:20 p.m.

The Giants, in need of offense, continue to explore a staggering number of options.

Among the possibilities, according to major-league sources:

# Free-agent left fielder Jason Bay. Giants GM Brian Sabean has denied interest in Bay and Matt Holliday, but others suggest he has at least explored signing Bay.

# Free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye. A much more affordable alternative to Bay and Holliday, Dye only is considering teams with a chance to contend.

# Second baseman Orlando Hudson. If the Giants signed Hudson, they would move Freddy Sanchez to third base. The Rockies also like Hudson.

# Infielder Mark DeRosa. The Giants likely would play him at third and move Pablo Sandoval to first. DeRosa also could play a super-utility role.

# Padres third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff. he teams discussed a trade, but the Giants' young players do not entice the Padres. -- Ken Rosenthal

if i were a Giants fan i would be all over Mark DeRosa..........who is very underrated...........
A guy hitting .250 with 23 homeruns will hit .265 with 15 homeruns in ATT. We already have Garko, Rowand, and Ishikawa, no need for another guy who can hit .265 with 15 homeruns at ATT, especially if he can't steal bases.

Couldnt really hurt to try at this point. I think the best guy available for us is that guy right there Mark DeRosa. Since Sabean is skimping out on Bay and Holliday, or any player who's lastname that ends in AY basically.

Of the available players, I'd like to see Hudson and Dye come to San Francisco. If Dye could work in at first base, you'd have an infield of Dye, Sanchez, Hudson, Sandoval. You'd have an outfield with the options of Dye, Velez, Rowand, Schierholtz and Torres.

At catcher, I like Doumit, but I'd settle for Olivio as well.

and it looks like a deal between the Twins and the Padres (for Kouzmanoff) is more likely to happen than our trade with the Padres, because the Twins might give up a pitcher the Padres want

I don't want Dye, he'll be a liability playing 1B or the OF...and Hudson is essentially the same player as Freddy Sanchez (except for his higher OBP)....

I'd rather see us sign no other INF, trade for Doumit and give Uribe the super-utility role again...

From Baggs' twitter:

Sabean: Johnny Damon not a fit. And Jermaine Dye? "We want to stay young. That's a blanket statement, not a comment against Dye."

We want playoffs with the pitching we have. If we show we are playoff contenders, we can bag better free agents in the future. We overpay for guys like Rowand because stars don't want to come to a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 6 years.

Another interesting option, id rather give up more for Jorge Cantu @ 3B than Uggla. I know we tried to before, but why not try again and offer better players?

Baggarly quotes Boras as saying "There are teams that have interest [in Holliday] and don’t want to let anyone to truly know." Boras assumes the Giants are interested in Holliday.

hope this is true^^
