So, no Molina, Penny, Uribe (most likely).

Looks like wer'e gunna go from 14 games above 500 to 14 games under 500.

Just my honest opinion, cause I know sabien aint gunna do shit but pick up an avg. ass bat to put in the middle of the order

Yeah its pretty official..

Cardinals nearing agreement with Brad Penny

SportingNews staff reports 1 hour, 11 minutes ago

Free-agent right-hander Brad Penny(notes) is close to signing with the St. Louis Cardinals, according to multiple online reports.

ESPN.com reports Penny and the Cards have a "letter of agreement" for a one-year deal that could be worth as much as $9 million. Penny would receive a $7.5 million base salary, and he could make up to $1.5 million more in incentives, the site reports. Agreement is pending a physical, which Penny will take Wednesday.

Earlier, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that a deal between the Cards and Penny was close.

Penny decided to test the free-agent market after turning down what reportedly was a lesser offer from the San Francisco Giants.

St. Louis is seeking starters for the back of its rotation. Penny likely would fill the No. 4 spot, behind Chris Carpenter(notes), Adam Wainwright(notes) and Joel Pineiro(notes).

This is whats gonna happen, same formula every season for the past 10-12 years, sign lots of over the hill over paid past their prime veterans, then we're stuck with them when the good ones are available.

I dont want beltre, nick johnson, or anyone named so far. Dye MAYBE, but thats a very big and over emphasized MAYBE.

I knew you'd be lurkin and over that.. which is why i said it.

I'd give up much more for someone like Adrian Gonzalez. Atleast we already know he can hit in ATT and isn't too pussy to come here like most other "big bats"

JMO.......but Hanley Ramirez is the #1 position player in ALL of MLB right now.............and he is very young!

Not that the Giants necessarily missed out, but Pudge supposedly signed with the Nationals (retarded of them, but their horrible anyway). Since the Giants are looking to sign a catcher for a one year deal, why didnt they sign him? Seems like a perfect fit for a veteran to lead this starting rotation and help platoon posey (run with whiteside the first half of the season, since "posey's not ready") and bring him up in the second half. But who knows, maybe the Giants will surprise us. I wouldn't mind getting Ryan Doumit.

Hanley Ramirez will be a Yankee/Red Sock player in the near future
Hanley Ramirez WAS a Red Sox player.............and they traded him to Florida for Josh Beckett AND Mike Lowell......was a great trade for both teams.......beckett and lowell helped Red Sox win a WS Title.....while a Young Hanley (17-18) was still needing polishing

KNBR reported negotiations between SD and SF are underway for Kevin Kouzmanoff in exchange for Fred Lewis and Kevin Frandsen, but the Padres are believed to want more for Kouzmanoff.

Not to take anything away from him, but a guy Like Kouzmanoff is not whats going to erupt our offense. yes, it is an upgrade, but he's not a guy that's gunna get us in the playoffs, typical Sabean though
