Lol @ everybody looking for Box Kev’s reply. Whats that going to justify? He might be able to give you further insight on the company and the situation but most likely if he was smart he wouldn’t (because he wants to keep his job). Why would you bash your company that’s paying your checks? The person you need to contact is Big Von ([email protected] or via his blog: http://theblock.kmel.com/bigvon) or Scotty Foxx (http://theblock.kmel.com/djscottyfox)

The article was obviously bias with an agenda but I’m sure it did have a lot of factual information. They forgot to mention the most important reason for the demise: creativity. We had like 200 rappers and 2 fans all rapping bout ‘going stupid’ or ‘going dumb.’ Yes the radio would help branch the artist out but if your music isn’t worth playing, your just going to make the region look worse (referring to the myriad hyphy bandwagon myspace rappers).

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m a strong believer in local radio supporting local artists. But if there isn’t much creativity coming out the region then not much the station can do because nobody is going to and has been requesting it. I would love an answer to this part from the interview though “Even if hyphy has run its course, a larger question remains of why hyphy artists were the only local rappers KMEL was playing. The Bay Area, after all, doesn't produce just one type of rap,” from somebody higher up in the org.
I sent out the article to few of ex clear channel djs, promotion directors and current employees in the station. Would be interesting to see their reply.

soulja boy has something like 100 million hits on youtube and sold a couple hunnid thousand records, and is all over MTv bEt etc.. fab couldnt even sell 10 000 records in the bay... the math is fairly plain..

i dont think anyone said the bay's music isnt good anymore, the jist i got from the article was that there was too much sound-alike shit...everyone wanted to be keak or fab, dummy thizz scrape purple etc.... it just got polluted.. i honestly cant really think of many really really hot records that have come out lately from the bay that havent been played... but thas just IMO
Soulja Boy was successfull because the mainstream media i.e(BET and Clear Channel) shoved it down the ppl throats. If soulja boy was on a independent label like thizz he wouldntve sold shit in his own city he woulda did f.a.b numbers. It aint like his music is good.So that means i can shove a wack ass song like "Yah" down the ppl throats all day on the radio and on BEt and i bet i would have all the youtube hits he had.

thats cuz they radio stations only support they region.West coast niggas nor east coast niggas get radio play down south so of course they gon push units when they radio stations only support them.If Kmel only supported Bay Area hiphop niggas would be sellin way more out here.

I dunno what chart you're looking at, but according to mediabase as of 9pm Saturday....E-40's new single is #9 on KMEL with 30 plays the past 7 days...Tell Me When To Go is #47 with 8 plays, J. Valentine is #36 with 13 plays. Keyshia Cole is #1, 16, and 31.

Still pretty weak that E-40 is the only rapper that KMEL is playing at least once a day (not counting dj mix shows).
