Really opens your eyes up on these people that are put in high positions, they really out for themselves. I suppose its human nature but damn, have some respect. If this article was written based on facts there is some shady ass shit going on there. Almost makes you wonder, what if another 92.7 pops up, they gonna do the same thing to try and eliminate the competition. Lucky for us we know where the music is but the average everyday radio listener is DOOMED!!!

My thought exactly... there's always gonna be haters in the game but you have to overcome those boundaries. Blame shouldn't be placed on the radio, because we already know they have their own agenda's.

Locally rappers made it big but outside of that stage little was done to make their name known. Music videos are not the way either. Make a song for the radio and it'll pickup in due time. 40's been in the game for quite sometime but his nationwide attention has been downplayed, only recently has he been noticed.

Hyphy was never a way of music, nor a lifestyle.
not a lifestyle for u cause u aint from the town

i thought it was funny how FAB was getting on Von saying Von wanted to be an artist before he became what he is now. That was clowning in my opinion because it's probably true.

Doesnt matter if its hyphy or mob shit we aint ever gonna be in the spotlight again due to every radio station in the world has the same mentality and this is local shit.

The article was well written even though it was one sided. It is hard to get the other side when (Roger Clemens) I mean Big Von won't make a statement to defend himself of the charges alleged.

In most companies, if you bring public shame to the company/organization in print your job is threatened as well as the company will launch a full investigation of the facts cited by the author. A persons' job or company status serves as a pawn when public shame has the potential to bring down the stock value of an entire 1,200 station corporation. Heads normally roll, and payola should put people in jail!

According to the article I see a number of violations that Von and Stacy need to lose their jobs over or be transferred within the big conglomerate. Maybe fresh blood will give the proper respect to the Bay Area music scene. Our local artists make great music including hyphy, mob, conscious, and throwback hip hop. Our music is unique and refreshing and other regions have looked up to the Bay Area for years and developed their own sound based upon having grown up hearing Bay music.

I grew up on Bay music and it is hard to listen to KMEL or any other radio station and not hear our artists fully represented.

If this article is true then Big Von is a piece of shit. Who knows what the real story is though, but this one seems to hold some water, with Davey D giving insights.

Quote:
Frank Herrera, an independent promoter for several local labels, says that Johnson has done some positive things for the Bay Area, but "always seemed like he was unhappy with music." Herrera claims Johnson has "played God" with artists' careers and says he often ignored the advice of DJs who advocated for local records they felt were deserving — most notably in the case of the late Mac Dre, often considered hyphy's founding father. After Herrera brought Dre's now-classic "Thizzle Dance" to the station in 2003, "his DJs had to tell him it was a requested song. Von was holding out on the record."

Herrera also says that Johnson was nowhere to be found the day he brought Dre to the station for a prescheduled interview on Johnson's show. Instead, the interview was conducted by another DJ. Although Dre's 2004 hit, "Feelin' Myself," is currently in rotation, Herrera says KMEL "really didn't start playing him until after he passed away" in late 2004.
this why "most" people didnt get into mac dre until after he died.

And what a shame that is.

THe bay has great music and that was a good article for years iits jsut seemed like a no brainer to me. Bay music is dirty and raw theres not much to do to clean it up without editing half the song. thats why its hard to play it but then again that kind of music does play all over everywhere jeezy lil wayne and others all rap pretty dirty and they get play. It just seems like were stuck on the bottom never getting up for a real chance and with what 106.1 did it was impossible for the "movement" to get up n goning. The bay has soem responsibility also though, we should of put out our best and only best artists not a whole bunch of ok ones. We needed to force the world just to focus on 40 FAB quinn all of them can be pretty radio friendly and have unique slammin bay styles. I wish the situation turned out different. But well always have those rare slammin indie artists for ourselves and i can be happy for at least that. That i got the chance to be born here and grow up on some other level type shit. even though theres not much great music happening right now. it will return and i got the chance to hear dre and grow up on that and i always knew he was the best rapper to ever hold a mic from when i was alot younger i wish he would have blown along with other artists from here but at least we got em. think about that at the very least we can be thankful that we got to be a fanbase/ artist or whatever you are in this gifted area.

after i read that artist yesturday i lightweight felt like all local artists should boycott kmel. how do you think that would work out just for discussion purposes. What if Keak, FAB, Quinn, 40, everyone just boycotted the station until they agreed to play local music regularly. Can artists refuse to have their music played on specific stations i mean i don't see why not. They really don't play our shit anyway so when they want to play 1 of our songs then they would have to give everyone a fair shot at radio play.

quit cryin, hatin and snitchin, kmel is a company not public domain, i dont listen to them cuzz i dont like rap music, but respect there right to make money the way they want to,
kmel is a top 40 station, not hip hop like they claim to be, they dont service the black comunity alone like in others cities, houston ,dallas, nashville, memphis, etc hip hop stations in those cites dont give a fuck about how the mainstream public feels about them or there taste in music. to be blunt there are not enough blacks in the bay to impact a station like kmel,

big von has to look out for the station and his job first and foremost, tell me what dj HAS EVER SPUN JUST BAY MUSIC IN THE LAST 5 YEARS AND KEPT HIS OR HER JOB,

YOU CANT GO FROM JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE TO KEAK , YOU END UP PISSING OFF YOUR AD CLIENTS TRYIN TO BE DOWN OR SHOW LOVE SO TAKE IT AS IT IS JUST MAKE DOPE MUSIC AND YOU WONT EVEN NEED KMEL TO PLAY YOUR SHIT
