you are off by a few years. the depression didnt start after or because of the repatriation of Mexicans. we were in a full fledged depression when the repatriation program took effect, it was because of the depression that repatriation took effect..
while i do agree with you that it was a tragedy because many american citizens were sent back with the Mexicans.

well as for the Aztecs they did steal the land, actually they stole alote of land and killed alote of the peoples from which they stole the land, the few that they didnt kill in battle over the land they used as slaves and the unlucky ones were sacraficed in a cruel and inhumane manner

sorry Mclean buddy, your the wrong one. Get your nose out the textbook and learn something real. Some of my American born family were deported to Mexico BEFORE the depression was official labeled. The actual titled program didnt go into effect until after the depression was already happening, but my fam was getting shipped to a country they never even seen before. Some of my fam didnt even know spanish.

i have no reason to claim to be "Mexican" i am not from Mexico i am from America (USA). so were my parents and grandparents.
now you can call me what you want but the fact of the matter is you are from the country in which you were born. if you are white but born in Africa and have many generation there, then you are an African.

Subdivisions, as you call them, are necessary for individualism, unless you want to be a drone to the government. Subdivisions are neccessary for keeping a democracy. This country is supposed to be built on the ideals that everyone is equal no matter what race or religion the citizens are. You say you want us to be one. If you have one voice, one mind, one group of people as citizens of America, thats when democracy is truly over and the principals by which this country was founded are moot.

what they are neccasary for is polititians to get votes, they keep people hating each other and thinking of each other as different and that is what keeps them in power.

The fact is we are different. And that is suppose to be the beauty of America. Yes politicians use that for votes, but the seperate groups of people will always be seperate. We have seperate interests, seperate religions, seperate ethnic backgrounds... but beyond all of that we are suppose to be all that and equal to one another. The latter is not true. Why give up my own personal identity, my american right?
Second, this country's political system is and always has been a democracy. The actual term is a "liberal democracy" if you really want to get technical (or at least its supposed to be)

This is why "one people" will not work in a system of "many peoples" There are issues that just cant be mended so easily by saying "All we have to do to fix this country is this...this...and this." Others will always disagree.

The reason is my father is Very Old fashioned. He was born in Mexico and is legal in the US. Now He says that little things I do such as if I speak to him in English. My father speaks very good English and spanish CLEARLY. But if I answer him in English he will tell me to repeat everything I said in Spanish. He doesn't want me to forget where I came from and my background.
Or an example of the above is if he calls my name and I say "WHAT!?!?! he will get upset with me. He tells me that is not the way I answer him it's suppose to be " Mande Usted" which is a respectful way of saying "Yes?" or "How can I help you" ... it has to do with respect. I'm not saying White people don't have respect it's just that my father doesn't want me to forget where I came from.
