lots of people viewed warhol's and basquiat's work as shallow (i don't), especially while they were alive and in the era in which they were producing it. that's why this argument is predicated on a rationale that is incapable of accurately ascertaining the larger relevance of lil b. people are probably having the exact same conversation about lady gaga, and the dialog would be handicapped by the same variables.

To me, great art doesn't have to be deep, nor did I say that was one of the reasons I don't think Lil B's music is brilliant. There are alot of post-modern works that don't have the intentional weight of modernist or classic pieces of work, but that's one of the characteristics of post-modern work. Again, my issue with him is the crappy way he takes does others peoples shit and not adding too much new good shit.
