I'll be joining the army in a week or so wen i speak wit a recruiter. At this moment im still not sure and very confused on which career/field i wanna take. I really dont know what i will enjoy doing. Does anybody know which career has the most opening? and about the bonuses what is that all about?
Just go online and browse the career fields that the army has. It all depends on what you like. You wanna run and gun? You wanna work with with tools? You wanna work behind a desk? And the bonuses is extra money they give you depending on your job. The jobs that are in the most demand get the most money. You get half of your bonus after you finish training, then the rest every two years. It's also taxed at 28%.

You really don't make shit in the reserves.
If your thinking that is going to be enough to survive you're mistaken.
For one weekend a month my buddy gets a little over $200 and he is an E-5.
I suggest another job unless you live with moms, then by all means go to college.

For the navy, I got my bonus after I completed by A school.
I got $2,000 and the gov took $500.
It depends on your contract when you get paid. The more you get for a bonus the more they take.

i dont even know too much about that shit at this point

ive always liked the air force and navy.. im not really trying to go to combat tho.. and i hear the reserve is part time so i could possibly persue another degree while in the military.
If you really don't know if you can get a good civilian job, then maybe going active-duty is a better option for you. The reserve is only one weekend a month. As an E-2 you'll be getting around $150 - $200 a month. If you're gonna be a full-time student then that might be a good idea.

Any service you sign with has an 8 year commitment.
usually 4 years active, 4 years inactive.
All that means is that at any time after the initial 4 years you could be called back. That would only be used in times of National emergency.

I signed for 6 years active, I will do 2 years inactive after that.

well what im really tryin to do here is get into the fire service, and as you know that shits competitive as fuck, i'm going to school for that right now. My plan is to join a military branch that has fire protection so i can gain more experience in that as well. After i'm done with my active duty, i read it was something like 8 years total. It's valueable to put that on a resume too and if you got military experience and fire service experience you automatically get bumped up in the list of applicants (theres like 500-1000 people applying for the same job and maybe only 2-5 openings) And if you miss questions on the tests you get extra points for having military experience..

Yeah my cousin wanted to be a firefighter in the army, but that wasn't easy for him... You gotta get a reasonably high score for that on the ASVAB, and he got a really low score. If you're smart you should be able to get it. And I know the army has a program called PaYS where they get you an interview at a local place related to your job. Not sure if other branches have something similar to this.

what are some factors that make you proud and love being in the navy.

n what are the most annoying factors that make you want to quit?
Traveling the world is pretty fucking cool.
I've been to Hawaii, Guam, Singapore, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Dubia (Jebel Ali), and Australia.
I am set to go on deployment again in September.
I really enjoy my actual job. I work on NATO Seasparrow missile system. Working on electronics is something I found to actually enjoy.
I really like my job. Problem is, in the Navy you don't really have one job.
Everyone WILL clean, chip and paint. It fucking sucks. Especially when you have to work for complete fucking morons.
That is my biggest problem with the Navy, it may be the entire military but I cannot speak on that.
I also hate how the Navy Officers try to separate themselves with the Enlisted people. In their eyes we are sub-human in-bred losers who are only good for cheap labor and grunt work. That pisses me off as well.

Here are some words to live by in the military.
If you are a thinking man, meaning you think before you act, the military will drive you fucking crazy.
However, if lifes not giving you a break, join up. It will help you out in the long run.

kingsix18 - thanks for the tip, yeah i been constantly looking through all the fields. I juss have 3 options i'm pretty much stuck at which are Construction/Engineering, Mechanic and Special Forces. Those 3 are what i'm mostly intrested in. Is it possible to change a career? I guess i need to research more.

Huero"909 - I'm planning to join Army Active Duty and atleast 2 - 6 years. Or what ever the minimum is.

Have you done the ASVAB yet? The availability of those jobs depends on your score. Mechanic and construction shouldn't be too difficult to get into. Special Forces is. And I'm not sure about switching jobs since I haven't delved into that subject before. But I'm assuming if you did, you would probably have to go through AIT (Advanced Individual Training) for your new job, which would kinda suck going through training again. You should just really be sure of the type of job you want.

That's exactly the reason why I want to be enlisted first, and then become an officer. I want to get experience on both sides because I don't wanna be like the Academy or ROTC officers. My girlfriend's dad is in the Navy, and he used to be enlisted before becoming an officer and he hates how the officers view enlisted personnel.

Like I said before, with a job like a firefighter, the only combat you MIGHT see will be when you go out on patrol. But it's not as common as you might think, according to friends who have been deployed. But yeah I'm pretty sure the army has the highest bonuses for first-time enlistments, but that also depends on your job.
