Exactly what happened, but i cut off contact wit them, and recieved that mail later on. that i got discharged and the reason is unable to get hs diploma blah blah.

recruiters are assholes they lie about every single thing.

told me that the chances of getting deployed to iraq are slim, that you dont have to be an infantry if you dont want to (When a marines first m.o.s is infantry!!) that they have a buddy system where u can get DEPLOYED to the same place wit ure buddy. blah blah blah..
wtf? he didnt really lie to u most of that is true....i myself as did 4 years in the marines i never deployed to oif or oef i was only in japan then southern cali...and yes thats a saying" every Marine is a rifleman" and thats something you shouldve known from the start but what they mean by that is basically if they short on grunts then theyll pick any other Marine to fill in which is not that big of a deal considering you will get trained for it anyway...but that buddy system where u can get deployed together idk bout that

I know there's a buddy system where you can go to boot camp with a friend.

oh and another thing if u already did sign up for the corps just know that at least when they deploy its alot shorter than the army..marines=6-8 months of deployment...army-12 months...
shit it just barely got put back down to 12 months...before that 15 months was the norm...my stepdad was in Iraq for 15 months...and so was another relative of mine in the 173rd Airborne in Afghanistan....a brigade from the 10th mountain did a 16 month tour in Afghanistan back in 06-07....that shit is LOOOOONG

Not every Marine is an infantrymen....

but if u join the Army or Marine Corps...you get trained how to fight in Infantry...because thats what both those services are built around...and theres a chance that you may be in a situation where you will be in combat....but thats not your job...and no other MOS is as dangerous as the Infantry...except in the Army where there are CAV SCOUTS....who do ALOT of the same stuff the Infantry dudes do but there job is a little different...they are reconaisance type dudes who go in and observe and shit i think....

You get some money though for that.
Tax free, hazard pay, if your married you get family separation pay. I'm in the navy, we were in the arabian gulf for 5 months, with E-4 pay no BAH I saved $7,000 and i spend HELLA money in port.

There are up sides to deployments. Unless you're Air Force and your deployment consists of NOTHING. haha

yeh im knowin...but theres way more downsides to a deployment that long form what ive observed....the shit takes a toll on the families...my stepdad is Infantry...my mom was a wreck for alot of the time he was there...i mean she was strong...but constantly stressed...everytime they got the news that people had been KIA it was rough...one day they came to her door to tell her that my stepdad got wounded during all the fighting in sadr city...but at first she thought they were coming to tell her the worst..but she noticed there was no chaiplain...a 15...16 month deployement is rough man...my little brother grew alot in that time..that my stepdad missed out on

you think air force reserve is a good choice? Im done with school in the winter. Thinking of hitting up a recruiter after that.
depends on where you live. If your going to go reserve find out what kind of bases are in your area. If there isn't shit for AF or Navy around, it probably won't be a good call.
Navy reserve is easy but remember, any reserve can/will drug test you when you go in. Be careful if you want to indulge in the marijuana.

Are you planning on getting a good civilian job?
i dont even know too much about that shit at this point

Good luck with it all man, keep the sicc informed of your decision.
Why do you want to go reserves anyways?
ive always liked the air force and navy.. im not really trying to go to combat tho.. and i hear the reserve is part time so i could possibly persue another degree while in the military.
