Not tryin to rain on what anyone has going on, but I really hate the whole country rivalry concept. It's about the fighters, not the country. It really takes away from the fighers themselves. If its soccer or another sport I understand, but this is boxing. It's not like black people chant africa, white people chant europe, or asian people chant asia. Pac fans chant Pacquaio, not "Phillipines".

And it was pretty one sided this time around...again.

All the Puerto Rican people kept on chanting "Puerto Rico" and other Puerto Rican songs.

The mexican fans were chanting "Margarito", not "Mexico".

Its about the fighters...

man, what a fuckin bad ass fight. Cotto, I thought looked fuckin AMAZING for the first half of the fight, his boxing and his COMBINATIONS were amazing, you have to admit. Thing is though, Margarito walked right through them. Not a good sign! Going into the 11th I thought Margarito started too look tired and his punches were week, but the round before he landed a few good shots that did damage. Mainly, cotto ate the uppercuts, thats what did him in. Cotto outboxed margarito and was winning on w points, alll he had to do was survive, problem was margarito was hurting cotto, cotto never hurt margarito...not even once. His face is steel. also, no body shots from cotto, maybe that was because of how the fight turned out but that had to not be part of the plan.

awesome fight. unfortunately though for tony I don't think he's as marketable as cotto could be. I seriously doubt ODH would ever fight him, same with mayweather. I dunno, rematch I'd love but I'd doubt cotto takes that too

Yeah.

No.

I would bet my life that I heard at least once, and I think twice, chants of MEJIIIIIICO! MEJIIIIIICO!

I enjoy it. Of course it's about the fighters, but it's still a rivalry. And while the fans at a Pacquiao fight may not chant "GENERAL SANTOS CITY!" (lol), talk to one, or visit youtube, or visit a boxing forum, and see the ''MESSICAN FIGHTERS SUCK!" or ''PHILLIPINE BOXERS ARE THE BEST; MANNY KILLS MEXICANS!'' posts. There's lots of them.

Maybe if there were some black or white rivalries that consistantly had fights like this, or Marquez/Vasquez, or Morales/Barerra, or Pacquaio/Marquez...there would be a rivarly similar to that of Puerto Rico/Mexico.

I just have to catch the replay. I really didn't see how Cotto could have looked THAT good in any of the rounds. Unfortunately, I dont think there will be a replay on TV any time soon, so I'll have to try and get it somewhere else.

Cotto was picking Margarito apart, the problem is nothing stopped Margarito from coming forward. Cotto was winning the fight and it looked like Margarito was gassed but Cotto was gassed too in that 11th round. Theres no way you could of gave the fight to Margarito without those knockdowns happening cuz Cotto was outlanding him and at a way higher percentage even though judges dont be giving a shit about that.

Nah they were chanting mexico my friend......It dosent take away from the boxers, we all know Chavez was great, and Camacho was preety good.....These are proud people, and the boxers love to put the countries on their back......And if Pacquaio was not from the phillipines would those people really care about him that much? Boxers rep thier people to the fullest, and the people support boxers from their region.......

awesome fight. finally mexico has something to cheer for these days (with el tri and pacman taking everyone out, it hasnt been looking too good).

i realize i dont like puerto ricans because i grew up watching boxing...with that said i still dont like them, but cotto fought a great fight. beautiful technical boxing for the first 6 rounds. margarito is just relentless though. and the thing about him is that his punches dont look spectacular but theyre continuous and do hurt. cotto had great counters to margaritos charging but margarito just took it and cotto could only take so much. good shit

and i would love to see de la hoya or mayweather step into the ring with the tijuana tornado...he would absolutely destroy them...so it probably wont happen unless margarito agrees to play a part in some acting for a huge payoff

The fight was badass in everywhich way. My Puerto Rican neighbor said it best going into the fight. It aint a country thing its about the fighters. Cottos combos looked too sweet. But it looked as if a true welterweight was fighting a middleweight last night. Big ups to Margarito, I called my bro n law that aint too fond of Mexicans and rubbed it in his face....

Dude Pacquio is a beast to anyone, if you follow boxing you'd see the under card Filipinos get beat often.
Very true. Bobby Pacquaio, anyone? LOL

Not long ago, Mexicans (Morales, Barerra, etc) dominated the division, but times have changed. Pacquiao is the king, and has been extremely sucessful against ALL opponents, not just Mexicans. But until ''one of us'' can beat him, the rivalry will continue. One great fighter, and Filipinos think they're king of the boxing world, huh? LOL great champ to be behind, though.
