If anybody is going to get knocked out, it will be Floyd. I can't see Floyd knocking Ortiz out if Floyd couldn't knock Marquez out. This is a dangerous fight for Floyd because I think at this stage in their careers, Ortiz is more lively than Shane and Shane rocked Floyd a few times. It's going to be interesting to see if he can take Ortiz punches.

Lucas Matthysse Withdraws From Erik Morales Clash

By Rick Reeno

Sources out of Argentina, with close ties to junior welterweight Lucas Mathhysse, have confirmed to BoxingScene.com that Matthysse has withdrawn from his upcoming fight with Erik Morales, scheduled to take place on the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz undercard on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Matthysse and Morales were going to fight for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title. There are different stories going around as to the exact reason for Matthysse's withdrawal.

A member of the boxer's team confirmed his withdrawal, but refused to discuss the exact reason, which one source stated was an injury and another states was an illness. Matthysse had replaced countryman Jorge Barrios, who withdrew due to visa issues.

Pound for pound, Marquez is a 10X better fighter than Ortiz though, so that's not a fair comparison. Marquez is a fantastic boxer, one of the best in the game. Yes he was smaller than floyd, but he knows how to not take too much punishment, his fundamentals are too solid for that.

Yeah but Marquez is naturally smaller than Ortiz and has hit the deck more (I think). Ortiz is naturally bigger, so if Floyd couldn't deck Marquez, I don't see how he's going to deck Ortiz.

I don't think floyd was even trying to go for the KO against Marquez though. he had said that was his tune up fight after retirement and I bet he just wanted to get rounds in. I mean he knocked down Marquez and didn't even try to pressure him after.

He's not going to fight that way against Ortiz. He's going to fight Ortiz exactly the same way he fought Mosley. Right there in front of him countering him to to death and at the same time getting his shots off first. I'm telling you. For those that think floyd is going to be dancing around and "running" you're in for a surprise.

Size doesn't matter when it comes to comparing Marquez & Ortiz it's about skills and styles. Marquez is a fantastic boxer, one of the smartest in the game and a natural counterpuncher (he was forced to fight an unnatural fight against floyd though as the aggressor). Ortiz doesn't have that kind of skill set.

I can't see Floyd standing in front of Ortiz, I just can't. He better do what he has to do to win the fight and stay undefeated... it's too late in his career to be trying to stand in front of somebody. We seen what happened when he chose to stand in front of Shane. He almost got knocked down or out.

Floyd is going to knock Ortiz out. Mosley and Marquez both could've been knocked out by Mayweather, if they didn't know how to hold to recover and how to fight hurt. Ortiz is one of them fighters that when they get hurt they keep throwing punches and they don't know how to hold and recover. If Mayweather hurts Ortiz he going to set him up for the check hook finisher ala Hatton. Mayweather will wear Ortiz down and knock him out late in the fight.

I think Mayweather is taking this by decision and a close decision. There is no way he's knocking Ortiz out especially seeing how Ortiz got up from that right hand shot that Berto decked him with. I could see Mayweather putting on a clinic though.

Maidana turned down to fight Eric Morales. He's fighting some bum the following week in Argentina so you'd think he's fit and ready to go but I guess not.

Told that Maidana was offered to fill in next week vs Morales, but he declined and stuck with his show the week after #boxing

that whole morales situation right now is super gay and really hurts this card. That was the fight I was looking forward to the most. EFFING GAY!!!!
yeah it's a big blow to the card. I don't know who they can get now to step in, someone completely unworthy of the vacant WBC belt though, that's for sure. But no doubt the WBC will still have the belt on the line, fucking crooks.

My book has Ortiz at +500

Anyways, I don't see Floyd knocking Ortiz out.
Maybe a stoppage or Ortiz quitting, but out as in not making the 10 count...I don't see it.

On the other hand, a solid on the button shot from Ortiz could lay Floyd out cold.

I understand why Maidana wouldn't want the fight but that's pretty cowardly to me especially when a lot of people thought it was a draw or Morales won. Higher profile fight than their first and better pay and for a belt. Why would you not accept the fight other than being scared. It's not like he hasn't fought him before.

@stiltskin, that's the whole fight right there. Mayweather has all the skill to win and ortiz has youth and obscene power in both hands. I like fights like this cause you can't really take your eyes off the fight unless Mayweather really just runs/clinches all night.

Ortiz could not stop Lamont Peterson or Berto after he hurt both of them. I just don't see him knocking out Mayweather. Mayweather will stop Ortiz because he's going to caught him with a counter shot when Ortiz lunges in with punches.
