Lucas Matthysse Withdraws From Erik Morales Clash

By Rick Reeno

Sources out of Argentina, with close ties to junior welterweight Lucas Mathhysse, have confirmed to BoxingScene.com that Matthysse has withdrawn from his upcoming fight with Erik Morales, scheduled to take place on the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz undercard on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Matthysse and Morales were going to fight for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title. There are different stories going around as to the exact reason for Matthysse's withdrawal.

A member of the boxer's team confirmed his withdrawal, but refused to discuss the exact reason, which one source stated was an injury and another states was an illness. Matthysse had replaced countryman Jorge Barrios, who withdrew due to visa issues.

From purely a technical boxing stand point Mayweather should kill Ortiz. Dude is sloppy as fuck and more of a brawler. Mayweather is too technical. Southpaw, orthodox won't matter in this case. Ortiz's only chance is to turn this into a fight(which Mayweather will have no part of) or land a big shot.

Watching Floyd/Shane for what feels like the millionth time. Even when Floyd landed clean, none of those shots were spinning Shane's neck around even when they landed on the point of the jaw. Another observation, everytime Floyd extends with a straight right hand, he's dropping his left. Curious to see if Ortiz can capitalize on this or if Floyd stays in super defensive mode all night.

I don't think Ortiz fights on the inside that much Floyd is actually a better inside fighter than Ortiz he knows all the tricks like using elbows to push off etc. I just hope Cortez doesn't do something stupid like he so often does cant believe he's in the hall of fame. Maybe back in the day he was a good ref but he fucks up so much these days its unreal
