exactly. Canelo isn't ready for that, he's only 21 years old and still needs to steadily move up the ladder with better opposition before getting in there with Cotto or someone like that. And if he's not ready for Cotto, imagine how much of a mismatch it will be if he fights Mayweather.
I do think canelo vs cotto would be a great fight though, very interesting. If canelo could pull it off, that would really send a statement to the boxing world imo.

They wouldn't make the fight if they didn't think he had a good chance of winning, I agree, but they don't know for sure. Golden Boy likes to make good competitive fights (unlike Top Rank) so they are much more willing to take a risk that could pay off later (putting in Ortiz against Berto for example at Ortiz's first fight at 147, putting Angulo in with James Kirkland finally (although that one backfired a bit)), Eric Morales in with Maidana, etc etc).

I love how people act like Mosley, Clottey, or Margarito were not bullshit fights that should've never been made to begin with. how did jean pascal become the lineal champ at light heavyweight? because the #1 (dawson) fought the #2 (pascal) after calzaghe retired. Are you trying to say Bernard Hopkins isn't the lineal champ because Jean Pascal didn't beat joe calzaghe?

When the #1 fights the #2 that is how it's filled, if it wasn't there would be No lineal champs as the sport goes back over 100 years, people retire or leave the division all the time.
