^^^ The first time he came out to south east was to my house..i had him take the 11 bus through downtown, logan, the dip, skyline, and end at deep dell next to the brook..besides east diego thats pretty much a hood scenic tour...
i lived in nice houses, down the street from meadowbrook...and after a while you realize its the same hood cats doing the same stupid ass hood shit regardless if they came from the brook or the town houses...its all a bunch of niggas actin bad...claiming the same set..
hood is a mindstate...So saying is san diego hood, based on my growing up in southeast id say yes. all of meadowbrook probably stole food from pay low....the liquor store didnt card...niggas nickle bags looked like 20 sacks to everyone else...the gangsters had taken to smoking meth...id walk home and see baggies and crack pipes on a daily basis, yes next to these nice looking homes..houses built on landfills none the less......how hood is a woman leaving her newborn baby in a grocery bag behind a dumpster? bloods killing more bloods than crips?
i mean i could show you a picture of the brook or bay vista right now and it looks nice as hell...but how many people in here from san diego can say right now that they want to visit either apartment complex with no business there?
sure its not like its the equivelent of the tenderloin district in san francisco, or northtown vegas...but hood rules are hood rules..another thing is, heavy gentrification is an important issue..due to our reputation as bieng "americas finest city", they want to hide any and all hood shit going on.... summer time? gang injunction, no negros in packs bigger than 2 on the beach. theres 7 different crack spots in 4-8 blocks of a dozen-million dollar baseball park, which is 3-8 blocks to two detox centers and st. micheals which is a place that houses the homeless... zapato taco shop where alot of people sold drugs out of on the low back then, got pushed out of the neighboorhood because it was now next to a baseball park and live work lofts bieng built...remember i said these live work lofts are going to be built ONE BLOCK from the homeless center that houses almost 300 people...
eventually, gentrification will take over the hoods in san diego and one or two things will happen....itll make it harder for the people of low-income to survive in the city, or poor people will be forced out of san diego altogehter. the only problem with that is, there will always be a steady flow of mexican immigrants coming into the city that arent well off...
is it hood? yes, parts of it are pretty hood.
is it all hood? fuck no. san diego is way too big.
is it the most hood city? no.
is it acting like the most hood city? no.
all i think san diego is doing is bringing awareness to the fact that the struggle does exist in sunny san diego.
