Of course there's a difference, regardless of that the issues are still there that breeds the mentality that my hood is the hardest. So understand why someone will feel that way about there area cause that's all they now, that's been their reality, their not worrying about what's going on in the next city.

I do agree with you that the hoods of Dago make up a smaller percentage size wise, compared to alot of other cities.

One thing I wanted to know is, what's the percentage of crime for certain parts of the city(southeast, east dago, national city, etc.) compared to the rest of the city. In other words, what percentage of the cities crimes take place in these areas?
Very good points.

That final question you raise is a good one, it is possible that San Diego is a little more polarized crime wise than other cities b/c there are so many white folks w/ money living within the city limits, as opposed to other cities where anybody who's white and has money is never going to set foot except for a ballgame downtown. I don't have an opinion on that San Diego specific question obviously b/c I'm not a San Diego native and the stuff I do is from a broader perspective.

Two Questions:
1) Give me some zip codes that are in Southeast, East and National City.
2) Try to tell me where I was at last time I was in San Diego, we drove across the bridge to Coronado Island where all the military stuff was and then I think we drove straight south from there along the water and then I think we were back on the mainland and we stopped at this McDonald's, does that ring a bell or is that too little information? Where was I?

Here's a few...

92105, 92115, 92114, 92113. There's more, but those four are what I know of east dago and south east, I don't know National City's tho...

Those zips were registering from 33% to 14% of the population in poverty, up to 2.5x the city average. I realize the numbers are also slightly misleading b/c poverty is a flat measure of income, and the cost of living in California is higher.

None of those zips were empty of white people, none of those zips registered extremely high levels of poverty like the consistently over 60% poverty levels found in the all black (literally all black) neighborhoods on the Northside of STL (the home of the dude who started this thread) and other cities in the Midwest/South.

I understand why you all feel the way you do and how much love you have for your city, I'm the exact same way with my city which is just like San Diego in this regard.

Today the Morgan Quitno rankings came out. I know the Dago hood glorifiers will say either 'who gives a fuck' or 'statistics don't tell you shit' but that's fine, I just thought I'd pass them along b/c I came across them today. Again these aren't saying this city has a hood, this city doesn't, they indicate how much of an impact the hoods have on the overall city.

San Diego was the 186th most dangerous city in the US in 2005, behind other West Coast cities of Compton (4), Oakland (8), Richmond (11), Tacoma (48), Sacramento (50), Phoenix (59), Yakima (68), Las Vegas (70), Seattle (110), Los Angeles (122), Portland (123), Anchorage (160).

Other Top 10 Cities were:
1) St. Louis (where the thread starter is from)
2) Detroit
3) Flint
5) Camden NJ
6) Birmingham AL
7) Cleveland
9) Youngstown OH
10) Gary IN

Downtown, Pittsburg. Southeast Dago.
what exactly is so dangerous about having a cable modem and typing on the siccness?

how are you in any more danger bieng in the #1 most dangerous city and on the internet in comparison to bieng the #180th city and on the internet?

is sitting in the house on the internet more ghetto in st. louis? does your monitor have bullet holes? what exactly do you face during your hard day of looking up crime statistics for a gangsta rap message board that makes you feel like crime statistics to a bunch of people on high-speed modems matters?

do you sell crack? do you sell meth? are you actively banging a set and your sets are at war? have you busted your gun within the last week at someone? do you rob people? what do you do that puts you in harms way? because if you ARENT in harms way, what the fuck does crime statistics have to do with ANYTHING?

do you even get what im saying?

HALF THE SHIT THAT GOES ON IN THE STREETS ARENT EVEN REPORTED. ITS WHAT THEY CALL THE GRAY AREA OF CRIME, IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLASSES THEY TEACH THAT NOT ALL CRIME IS EVER FULLY REPORTED.
SOME THINGS ARE LABELED MAN SLAUGHTERS WHEN IT WAS A HOMICIDE.
OR AN ASSAULT SOMETIMES IS LABELED A ROBBERY. CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE PLUS SO DO CHARGES DEPENDING WHETHER SOMEONE DIES WEEKS LATER IN THE HOSPITAL OR MORE INFORMATION IS FOUND AT A LATER TIME.

I peeped that today too... but I thought San Diego was ranked the 186th safest city in the U.S... do some more detective work on SD's history, you might be suprised at what you find... there are reasons why the city of Saints ranks where it does in 2006... I think a lot of folks who call SD home remember when it was considered the 'Meth Capitol of the world'... before the gang injuctions... operations Brown, red, and blue rags... I don't think it's cool to glamorize murder rates and crime but before cities like, Seattle, Phoenix, and Vegas adopted the So Cal gangbang model the streets of San Diego (some of them) were flat out war zones... I've been to Oakland, DC, NY, Atlanta, the 'Shaw' and have never been caught off guard thanks to the way my folks in San Diego raised me...
