niner fans need to open up there eyes and see that yes for a first round pick he is a bust, if u pick a qb in the first round he needs to be ready right away and focus on the game right away and needs to know he will be playing by at least next season or sooner this has been alex smiths 3rd yr and he has improved but he is looking more like a second round pick and is not meeting expectations for a number 1 first round pick
LMAO damn.....

Alex is only 23 years old. If he wasnt improving, you guys would have an arguement here

well if Josh McCown is playing better than him.. it wont be that hard for Russel to do!
How is McCown playing better than Alex Smith? Cuz he played against the Lions in his first week? He only had 73 yards passing against Denver the 2nd week, and only 108 yards against the Browns.

The 49ers beat the Broncos in the last game of last season, Alex Smith had 194 passing yards.

Then why isn't Russell ready right away??

why are u defending the fact that he is a bust? just look at the qb who yall played on sunday ben roethlisberger he's young 2 and already lead his team to win a superbowl, look at jay cutler he is what to expect with a first round pick look at vince young now look at alex smith u see how his name just doesnt fit in with the rest of all those????

why even bring up last season!? but umm I'll be the first to say.. I want Culpepper to start for the Raiders.. but as far as statistics go I'm saying McCown is doin better than Smith.. from the yards to the TDS to the completion ratings

this is what week 3? this aint his 3rd year its his 3rd week he missed preseason and he missed hella practices kiffin has said the reason why he is not ready is cuz he hasnt had enough time to get all the plays from the playbook down but that he is doin good but he wont start and why start him right away when we have qb's who have more experience right now who get the job done there is no reason why we need to rush him to get out on the field and im sure by the end of this season he will prove he is ready and he will start but come on week 3? and u want him to start lol

Besides Vince Young, look at how good the other teams are.

Alex Smith can still prove ya'll wrong. Im just saying I wouldnt call him a bust quite yet. But by your standards, J Russell is already a bust because he isnt ready to play right away being that he was the number one pick. See how smart you raider fans are......

@ Quick He wasn't signed until Week 2 of the Regular season. Maybe if he was in training camp and pre season and outperforming other QB's he'd be the starter right now. Russell will start the last few games of this season and will be the starter next year.

Alex Smith was the best QB in that draft. There were only 3 QBs drafted in the 1st round, Smith #1, Aaron Rodgers #24, Jason Campbell #25.

= J Russell to be a bust. He should be ready to play because he was the number one pick. You said that.

decent oline? Have you been watching the 9ers games? Gore hasn't even touched 100 yards yet. You just said it yourself a #1 pick QB should be ready.

And truthfully he shouldnt even play this year. I was juist going by what he said. J Russell is not a bust yet......

I mean he gets a pass because of the raider uniform. Fuck an excuse
yea he should be ready right away what if culpepper and mccown get injured there is no excuse, i agree he should have signed before preseason to be able to get playing time in the preseason and have more time practicing

Niner should have picked Braylon Edwards that year and got Young or Leinart the next year. Thats what I said before the 05 draft but what can you do......

The whole offense lacks confidence. I think we know what the niners are capable of when theyre firing on all cylinders. im frustrated too, they need to pick it up if theyre going to compete. When the o line is at its best, and gore gets up there, Smith will gain confidence and his numbers will pick up. its only week 4, we got a ways to go.
