I think he'll be fine but this year will show a lot. He improved last year with Norv Turner calling the offense, but now with Norv gone he might regress. Way too early to give up on him though.

So I gotta quick question. Say the Raiders did draft Russell and he put up horrible numbers like Smith did his first year... would you all say he's a bust or it's too early to tell?
Hell nah I dont think Id call any QB a bust after their rookie year..
Which is why Im all for giving Walter another shot considering he didn't stand a chance last season in our offense, no QB did.

Dude you're so annoying. No one cares what you think. You're opinion to the Sports forum is irrelevant by now. I don't know how half these dudes are able to stand your ass. You are easy to make fun of however, but much mroe annoying than anything else.

I'll keep you updated as to where Aaron Brooks is playing, so you can go that teams Brooks jersey, posters, stickers, hats, warm-ups, etc.
I am not a Brooks fan anymore. I am a Raider fan so shut up!

I agree with you S1 but in my opinion they fucked up by hot keeping Norv Turner. He is great as an offensive mind and at molding young quarterbacks. He had Smith playing a lot better this passed season.
Where have you been? They tried real hard to keep Norv. They even signed him to an extension, and it was his decision to bail on us. There was basically nothing the 9ers could have done to keep him. Maybe if they gave him like 6 mill a year.

They didn't have a choice. Norv made the decision.

And as long as we're actually giving this idiot (Tony) what he wants, let me tell you why Alex Smith is not a bust..

1. He made HUGE improvements last year. I watched every single snap, and he didn't look nearly as confused as his rookie year. He didn't fumble or throw as many INTs and he learned how to get rid of the ball instead of trying to force it into an unopen receiver's hands. That ultimately led to him having a lower completion percentage, but it's better than having a higher INT count. He also increased his TD count by 15 as compared to the 1 he threw the year before.. It seems he's adjusted to the speed of the NFL and he's starting to get used to playing at the pro level.

2. He's STILL the youngest starting QB in the league (he might even still be the youngest QB, period) and he has nothing but experience to look forward to. He will continue getting better with time, and as of right now he doesn't look half-bad as it is.

3. Norv says he's the smartest QB he's ever coached.. Meaning he understands the game of football. Peyton Manning is another example of a smart QB (I'm not comparing them, so don't bother).. They figure out defenses a lot easier than your average QB. Alex will learn the system and he will thrive because of his ability to learn new things and catch on to concepts easily. A smarter man is also more capable of making the right decisions, quickly.

4. He's very athletic, very mobile. Once he gets comfortable at this level he will learn how to use his legs more. Don't get me wrong he did show off some of his ability last year, but he will learn when to take off and you'll see him scrambling and running with the ball more often once he gets used to it and they unleash him.

5. Frank Gore & Vernon Davis. If I have to explain why they will help Smith, you're an idiot. His first year he had no weapons.. His second year he had a better surrounding cast, and he did a decent job. With another year of experience for Vernon and Gore, they will help Smith progress. Every QB needs weapons or they won't be able to do SHIT.

He is not a bust.

I'm sorry. I know it's hard for us Niner fans to admitt, but this #1 first round pick is starting to look like a bust. Yeah he had a great senior year back at Utah, but he hasn't done much in the NFL. He has finally thrown for over 200 yards this season. Wow. Those are some crazy stats right? Forget about it. This dude is a $48 million bust. Should have trade down the pick and got Aaron Rodgers. Oh well.

Yet... but he's on his way though. With that being said... I think the 49ers will beat Seattle this weekend because Gore is going to run for 100 yards and open things up for the passing game. Smith may look a little better this weekend but I still think he's garbage. He's better than Leinhart though.

I don't know. I'm still blaming it on the 9ers having their 3rd different offensive coordinator in 3 years. The offense can't learn different shit every season. The oline looks like shit again too. Which receiver can be relied on? There hasn't been a probowl 49er receiver since T.O. left.

Peyton Manning has a good ass oline, cuz he can't scramble for shit, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dwight Clark.
Tom Brady has a good ass oline too, and now he has Wes Welker and Randy Moss.
Carson Palmer has Chad Johnson and TJ Housh, and if Chris Henry can wake the fuck up he'd be sick too.
etc...

Oh and the 9ers wanted to trade down in that draft to get more draft picks. But all the other teams figured there was noone worth a #1 draft pick besides Alex Smith. That's why the 9ers picked him.

That excuse only lasts for so long.

They used that for Couch...and eventually you had to realize what he was. Not bad...but not good enough to go out and win you some games...something a No. 1 should be able to do.
