Not a top dog?

Pound for Pound list as of today

1. Manny Pacquiao
2. Sergio Martinez
3. Nonito Donaire
4. Juan Manuel Marquez

yeah, he does need to move up in weight which he will after his next scheduled fight. After that he's at 122 and the bob father promotes both Gamboa and Donaire and he's mentioned the fight happening by next year a few times already.

only way it wouldn't happen is if Gamboa goes up in weight himself, which he very well could.

lmao. Donaire turned down the tournament to fight Montiel, who was ranked in the top 10 pound 4 pound and he got A LOT more money fighting that one single fight against a better opponent than he would have in the entire tournament.

as a floyd fan you shouldn't be talking about guys with hype who don't fight that much. :beard:

Mares/Agbeko aren't in the same league as donaire.
LOL. Spoken like a true Manny fan. Just remember that ODLH, Marquez, Hatton, and Mosley where all ranked on the P4P list when Mayweather beat them.
How do you know that they're not in Donaire's league? Donaire fought 1 top guy in the division while Agbeko has fought 3 of the top guys. The winner of Mares vs Agbeko 2 will be the top dog and Donaire should fight the winner. Agbeko's resume is better then Donaires.

the hell you talkin about? this conversation is about donaire/gamboa.

Did I say they weren't?

Really? Just watch donaire vs montiel/Sydorenko/Marquez/Vic and it should be obvious. This isn't rocket science man.

I would bet the farm on donaire beating either of those guys. Easy stuff here man, mares would get murdered, Agbeko might be tough enough to go the distance but that's the best scenario for him.

Cool story. If Agbeko didn't get robbed maybe they would fight but since they are rematching eachother, after donaire's upcoming fight he's moving up in weight so too bad for them. Donaire is lightyears ahead of them in skills and natural ability, plus I believe his trainer is one of the best in the game.

That's your point of view and I respect that. But at some point dude is going to have back up that #3 P4P ranking by actually fighting someone here soon. He doesn't have the fanbase or resume to fight only one time a year.

He KO'd a top 10 pound for pound fighter in Montiel in 2 rounds this year, that wasn't enough? He had his contract dispute which kept him sidelined for a few months, but he's back and fighting next month.

Average fighters don't do these kinds of things to elite and top rated fighters:

Vitali vs Adamek tomorrow at 2:00pm I think. Who do you guyes got. Vitali is getting old and slowing down, but I just think he's too big for Adamek. Adamek will make Vitali fight. I hope it's a good fight because I'm still sick to my stomach because of Haye's bitch ass.

Maybe Montiel was not all that good to begin with. The P4P list is an opinion based on what the writers thinks. Montiel didn't fight Vic, Mares, or Agbeko, so it's hard for me to rank him. All questions get answered in the ring. I still want to see how good dude is he needs to fight more.

lol so now montiel wasn't that good? I guess KO'ing Hozumi Hasegawa in four rounds was nothing? 20 title fights meaningless?
Hatton was undefeated and rank number 3 P4P before Mayweather beat him, and you youreslf have called Hatton not very good. So is it a double standard when, I point out to you that Montiel might have not been all that good to begin with even though he was p4p ranked?? Just a question. no hate..

you're logic is so scrambled it's frustrating. Hatton has nothing to do with Montiel/donaire/gamboa coversation. For one second forget about floyd mayweather and his career.

For the record I stated Hatton wasn't that good in his fights at 147 being that he was getting beat up by Collazo and even at 140 I thought he was a good fighter but never on the level of floyd or pac.

And no, Hatton was NEVER ranked pound 4 pound #3 in boxing, I don't know where you got that number. The highest he was ever ranked was #8

The Ring:

2006

Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Manny Pacquiao
Ronald (Winky) Wright
Jermain Taylor
Bernard Hopkins
Marco Antonio Barrera
Rafael Marquez
Ricky Hatton
Jose Luis Castillo
Joe Calzaghe

2007

Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Manny Pacquiao
Juan Manuel Marquez
Bernard Hopkins
Joe Calzaghe
Israel Vazquez
Miguel Angel Cotto
Ricky Hatton
Ronald (Winky) Wright
Rafael Marquez

Comparing hatton to montiel is silly. Hatton didn't beat any pound 4 pound fighters immediately prior to Floyd. The last guy he beat was an old Kostya Tszyu several years prior. Montiel had just KO'd a pound 4 pound fighter in Hasegawa before fighting Donaire.

OK cool. One more question please list one P4P ranked or elite fight that Cotto has beaten since he beat Mosley? I just want to point out the double standards people like to use for the fighters they like.

That's my point who's to say that Montiel was not overrated. Ricky Hatton was undefeated and only two loses are to Floyd and Manny.. I just don't understand peoples double standards and crazy logic they use to justify the rankings of the boxers they like.
