Boxing schedule for the month of September

By any chance did anyone catch the Top Rank Live card on last night?

I know it was actually a few days ago, but it was on Comcast Sports Net last night. The main event was Mercito Gesta vs Manny Perez.

Also, a young Mexican heavyweight named Andy Diaz I believe. Dude was chunky and fought some janitor from Canada, but he had surprisingly quick hands.

As for Gesta, he was fighting Perez, who came to fight. Gesta's footwork is a little sloppy, but what bothered me the most is that he was getting way too cute, and fighting like he was blowing Perez out, which he clearly wasn't (even though the judges scorecards say he did). I had it much closer than their scores which were something like 8 rounds to 2. Gesta may be a little too confident at this point. Showed flashes of some good things, but was still getting tagged a whole lot more than he should have.

^^I didn't catch it but basically heard exactly what you said, that the fight was a lot closer than the scorecards indicated and he wasn't too impressive.

Gesta has not impressed me yet. He fights nothing but cab drivers.

he's still young, we need to give him another year or so to see how he develops.

Yeah, Gesta definitely is still developing. Perez fought Brandon Rios twice, one draw and got stopped in the middle rounds in the rematch, and Gesta has supposedly been calling out Rios, which I think he'd lose at this point.


Last night, Gesta would fight in spots and showboat in between. Has fast hands, but fights flat footed at times, and tends to lunge a lot, leaving himself out of position.



I want to see Pirog-Maravilla! Not sure why DiBella is constantly trying to defend Sergio fighting Barker but doesn't think Pirog is worthy. Bullshit.

I agree Gesta simply isn't ready for the top guys yet, but it's nice that he has his goals set high.

DiBella pissed me off because he's such a hypocrite with the Pirog/Barker thing. Who the fuck is barker? Aint no one in the US heard of him and he's never fought on HBO/Showtime/ESPN, so his logic in not fighting Pirog is broken being that Pirog had one of the best KO's in recent years on HBO and owns a belt.

Then, he said he wouldn't even have MACKLIN fight Pirog or Kid Chocolate, as if Macklin is some cashcow! He blasted both of them. Then he goes off and says Pirog and Kid chocolate should fight eachother and MAYBE then and only then would he consider Martinez or Macklin fighting the winner lol.

Martinez is a good fighter and all but they need to let go of the idea of fighting pacquiao-floyd at 154/160, it's not going to happen. He blasts pacquiao for not moving up to fight him but at the same time they said they wouldn't move up and fight Andre Ward at 168. Clean up your own division then, that's the only option. Pirog, Kid Chocolate, Gennady Golovkin all are great opponents.
