It's hard to call a guy a shot fighter when the only thing that's beating him is the same exact style/game plan that beat him when people were dubbing him "the most avoided fighter in boxing". If Williams/Pavlik gets signed or Williams/Molina those are 2 different fights and 2 fights that Williams would probably look much better in.

Since I didn't mention it at all .. the HBO commentary on the fight was completely ridiculous.

1. RJJ talking about a guy should retire cause he's taking a beating.
2. One of the rounds I gave to Williams was late in the fight when they were saying Williams is about to drop dead.
3. It's FUCKING boxing! I'm not a fan of prolonged beatings or brain injuries but this is the business of boxing and that commentary was just insane.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that's sick of the BS commentary that goes on with HBO. I mute the TV during boxing matches most of the time, so the announcers won't bias my view of the action in the fight.

Paul Williams is damaged goods at 28 years old. He's been involved in too many wars taking too many clean punches. I'm sorry but if you're 30 years old or younger and you're already pass your prime what would you call it? I call it shot or damaged goods. But no matter what you want to call it Paul Williams is not the same fighter he once was and anyone saying otherwise has not been watching his career. His offense is crap now and that's the main reason it's so easy to land punches on him. Should Paul Williams get a new trainer? Yes.. Should he work on his defense? Yes.. But if you watched dudes career you will know that nothing has or will change about him. Paul has no more pop in his punches, so I don't see him beating Molina, because he has nothing to keep Molina off of him. Pavlik is damaged goods himself so he might be able to pull that one off.

To me he has to prove he's shot. All he proved on that night was that he hasn't figured out, or attempted to figure out, how to deal with a southpaw that can fight. The only person he didn't fight since the first Martinez bout that didn't fit that style was Cintron and even in that short fight he was getting hit clean and out throwing Cintron while it lasted.

Getting beat up by guys that are known bad style match ups doesn't = being shot.

I get what you're saying he has problems with leftys that's pretty easy to see. I'm just saying that the damage from clean punches landed on him in the Quintana 1, Margarito, and Martinez 1 and 2 fights have catch up to Paul and he's not the same fighter. And he's only 28 yrs old for god sakes.

now if they can do that consistently, and in other states, judges might think twice about fucking around.

But they should rule this fight a no contest imo.

One of the judges, Hilton Whitaker Jr, who scored the fight for Williams, is the son of Hilton Whitaker III, who is the president of the IBO. The father was sitting BEHIND his son as he scored the fight. That's quite obviously a conflict of interests.

the other judge who scored it for Williams, Donald Givens, is like 90 years old. He's also an active trainer who trains pro fighters and has interests in certain fights. Another conflict of interest imo:

They should be investigated and their bank records subpoenaed.
The commission has to know they got bought out. All this is going to do is require judges to be paid more since now they are in risk of being suspended.

Donald Givens might just be old and senile. On the same card, there was a 6-0 fighter fighting a 1-6 absolute bum. It was a four round fight. Apparently the 6-0 fighter won easily, every round, and the other two judges all scored him winning every round. Donald Givens however actually had the 1-6 bum winning the fight. So he could just be old, blind and senile.

Hilton Whitaker Jr. is definitely suspect with his father and all.

yeah my mind was moving too fast. What is typically done is that the scorecards are collected from the judges, then the official re-writes them down to be turned into the commission.

It's kinda shady. I think judges should have to turn in a scorecard after EVERY round, that way you wont have guys crossing out numbers and changing rounds, etc.

Even in the US you have guys that wont get a % of the PPV. Like Floyd-Ortiz for example, Ortiz is getting his guaranteed 2-3 million whatever it is and all the rest goes to floyd.

Judges do have to turn in scorecards after every round. They're turned in to the referee. Someone else writes those scores down on the final card but a judge himself doesn't touch his score for a round after a round is over and I'm sure if a round is wrong the judge can dispute turning in that score.

If you ever see the referee go to different sections of the ring after a round is over that's what he's doing is collecting the scores for that round.
