This is without a doubt the best weekend of boxing I've witnessed in a while and definitely this year. Starting with FNF last the entire card, Berto Vs. Ortiz on HBO and BOTH fights on the Showtime broadcast and I still haven't even watched the Narvaez Vs. Seda fight..

naner I want to hear your thoughts on the fights
Khan Vs. McCloskey was ok even though that's one of the biggest bullshit cut stoppages I've seen. McCloskey might not have had a chance to win but he wasn't taken bad punishment, was undefeated and should have been giving his 6 rounds or less to see if he can make something special happen. I don't think a rematch is a deserved or anything just saying..

Berto Vs. Ortiz .. I for once kind of agree with Emmanuel. I think Ortiz came out blazing and Berto never really got right, the fact that Ortiz kept bombing his ass throughout the fight I'm sure didn't help at all. I saw you mention his trainer in the other thread and I'm not sure if that's it but he should keep his fucking family out of the damn corner. You can't give clear instructions to a guy that's clearly hurt when you have two other assholes screaming shit at him and a few times it was contradicting to what the guy was trying to tell him.

Ortiz, IMO, seems to be much better off and healthier at welter. He reminded of Guerrero in the sense that he didn't really look like he just moved up in weight .. he seemed like he clearly belonged there and his power traveled with him beautifully. The 6th round has to be ROTY so far, better than the first round in Concepcion/Marquez IMO.

Lopez Vs. Salido .. I had a feeling this fight would be all out. I don't really agree with the stoppage much, I think you give a guy like Lopez his due and let him roll but I'm not outraged by it. Lopez took real man punishment in there. He was wobbled up plenty, took a monstrous knockdown in the 5th and was really getting teed off on whenever Salido was able to land more than on punch in succession. If the roles were reversed I don't think the stoppage would be much of a problem with people saying shit like Salido was taking way too much punishment in there.

I think Salido put on a fantastic performance but in terms of top fighters Lopez is a fantastic matchup for him. They're both high level pressure fighters and Salido clearly can take it better than Lopez.

Ortiz still impressed me more than anyone in the ring tonight. He was down twice, one was a real deal knockdown, at a higher weight with everyone (myself included) talking about his mental status, Berto was too fast. This wasn't really a favorable style match up for him and Ortiz still whipped that ass. I'm surprised he couldn't him out there, he seemed like he hurt him everytime he landed clean and he figured out a way to nullify Berto's hit and clinch where he seemed to always leave himself one are free to punch and to push Berto off of him. Much props to Ortiz.

fucken comcast didn't show the card till 10, forgot it was on when it was live or would have watched a stream but the outcome was ruined for me and not by anybody on here fucken sucks but round 6 was fucken intense just like the Ortiz/Berto fight. Lopez gots fucken heart for fighting like he did after that first knockdown. Gamboa/Lopez should still happen still a big money fight.

Puerto ricans.

you'd think that since salido is the champ and went into hostile territory and TOOK jaunma's belt in his homeland he'd have the right to defend his belt in say, mexico or california but the bob clearly wants juanma to win the rematch.
Unfortunately for them I don't think it's gonna work out that well. Juanma is going to have to do something he's not used to and not be a pressure fighter and make the fight a stinker to win. Salido is just the kind of guys that if he knows he can hurt you, you're fucked. Juanma was taking it to him and as soon as Salido put him on his ass he let loose...

^^^ I agree. 1 or 2 pounds a week is a steady cut. 65-70 pounds to make weight? He would have to eat 1000 cals a day for 12 weeks to cut that hard, even at that I don't see it happening. Just Arum's excuses...

bullshit excuse. look at the weigh in pictures i posted he looks very healthy and solid. remember he was out on his feet against mtagwa at 122 pounds and the blamed it on the weight and he moved up to 126. its clear he simply doesn't take punches well and he doesn't have the defense to protect himself.

anyways, at least we know gamboa is the best at 126. hopefully he can fight chris john now and if not rafa marquez.

I don't think he expects the punches he gets hit with and his hands are often out of position. Of course he's gonna get rocked when he doesn't see them coming from a decent puncher.

Lopez also doesn't eat 1 punch well, but he frequently takes a big shot then 2 or 3 smaller shots or vice versa often and that does a ton of damage to him. He doesn't block or hold really at all

I wouldn't believe Bob Arum if he told me his name was Bob Arum

April 22
At Uncasville, Conn. (ESPN2): Breidis Prescott vs. Bayan Jargal, 10 rounds, junior welterweights; Demetrius Andrade vs. Omar Bell, 8 rounds, junior middleweights; Joe Hanks vs. Terrell Nelson, 6 rounds, heavyweights

Prescott is the guy who brutally KO'd amir khan a couple years ago before khan was with freddie roach, however since them he hasn't been too impressive going 2-2 I believe. His opponent, Bayan Jargal, is Mongolian who is 15-1, coming off a split decision loss and I don't recall ever seeing him fight before, his record indicates he's been in with pretty soft opposition. Naner probably knows more about him.

Demetrius Andrade is a very solid prospect, a lot of people are high on him and his opponent looks soft and probably an easy win for Andrade.

Joe Hanks is fighting a guy who hasn't won a fight in 10 fights so expect a KO.

and the bantamweight tournament should be great on showtime
April 23
At Los Angles (Showtime): Bantamweight tournament final, Joseph Agbeko vs. Abner Mares, 12 rounds, for Agbeko's IBF bantamweight title; Third-place match, Yonnhy Perez vs. Vic Darchinyan

Jargal started out as a one dimensional come forward, face first, power puncher and somewhere along the lines tried to turn himself into a boxer that hasn't seem to work for him much. I didn't see his last fight but I saw the draw before that against James Hope in a fight that he should have been able to win clean but he decided to try and be a boxer.

Hopefully the draw + loss combo make him resort to his whole self and it should make for some entertainment against Prescott .. even if he boxes he probably should be able to beat Prescott since he's been fairly terrible.

Joe Hanks has beaten some decent fighters .. not sure why he's in there with a scrub, but he is and he should win easy and early.

.. and Andrade is a former Olympian who's fighting a guy who's only loss is to Keith Thurman (a fucking crusher). So it should be pretty interesting.
