Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton Nearly Done - May 2

By Mark Vester

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has revealed that a mega-clash between Manny Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) and Ricky Hatton (45-1, 32 KOs) is close to a done deal for May 2, with Las Vegas being the frontrunner to host the event. The fight will take place at the junior welterweight limit of 140-pounds.

"I'm encouraged by the way it's going, and I'm talking to the Hattons (on Friday) again," Schaefer said to the AP. "You really have two of the most popular fighters of their generation fighting each other, and that's the kind of fight we want to make."

After Pacquiao knocked out Oscar De La Hoya on December 6 and Hatton was able to stop Paulie Malignaggi in November - both fighters focused on each other. Schaefer says the rabid fans of Pacquiao and the wild Manchester crowd that follows Hatton by the thousands will make the fight a global event. Golden Boy, along with Pacquiao's promoter Top Rank, are pushing for the fight to land in Las Vegas.

"This is a fight with tremendous global appeal, and both of them have built up a very strong following here," Schaefer said. "With Manny's following in Asia and Ricky's support in Europe, you could say Las Vegas is the center of everything."

Pac-man wins by knockout (Hatton will walk into punches).... should be an entertaining fight. Hatton my resort to his old wrestle/grapple style once he finds out he can't hang with Pac-man going toe to toe.

That would be a crazy fight. Both guys that just come forward. Somebody would get knocked out not unless Manny pulls what he did to De La Hoya and boxes.

I don't know about beating DLH/Pacquiao numbers...

And this won't be a 'great fight'...because Manny will floor this albino. If Floyd can knock him out, Manny might kill him.
So if Manny knocks him out its not a good fight? If it goes 8 or 9 rounds and Hatton hangs with him and then gets KOed. I dont know about you but that is exactly what i want to see. Plus you got Both of there rabid fan bases goin at it. That's good shit. By the way just because floyd beat Hatton doesnt mean Pac will they have different styles. Hatton is bigger and i promise he will put up a better fight than washed up Dela tranny did.

If if if if.

That doesn't do it for me. I don't see this even lasting as long as the Mayweather/Hatton fight. I think Manny is waaaaaaay too much for that disgustingly pasty dude. But, that's just my opinion.

If they beat the living shit out of each other for 12 rounds, and Hatton wins on the cards, I'll be happy. I don't care who wins, although I don't know how Hatton could win unless Manny suffers a bad cut that stops the fight (which he SHOULD still be winning on the cards, anyways) or if the referee gets knocked out accidently and Ric Flair comes in and hits Manny with the championship belt from behind, and Hatton pins Manny.

Err...something.

Valuev vs. Holyfield Rematch is Possible For 2009?

By Mark Vester

We may see a rematch of Evander Holyfield and WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev. A crowd of 12,500 in Zurich, Switzerland voiced their displeasure when Valuev was announced as the majority decision winner of his fight with Holyfield. The crowd and most of the television viewers saw Holyfield as the winner. The scores were 114-114, 116-112 and 115-114.

Well known broadcaster Nick Charles, who was working the booth, gave his opinion after the decision was announced - "I am shocked, dazed and amazed, that is the worst display of officiating I have ever seen."

Holyfield, 46, was happy with his performance, but disappointed about not getting the decision.

"I saw it the other way from the judges but I'm not disappointed by my performance. He's a tough opponent, the sheer size of him is of course the main factor but he fights well with it too and that's the problem. I hit him more times than he hit me. I moved a lot and made him miss punches and I fought the fight that I thought I needed to win. Now I have to go home and think about my future," Holyfield said.

Valuev said Holyfield was a lot faster than he expected. He says Holyfield made him work hard, but Valuev barely threw any punches and appeared to be far from working.

"He made me work very hard for the win," said Valuev. "Holyfield was unbelievable with his speed. The fight was fought at a great tempo for the whole 12 rounds."

Holyfield's manager, Ken Sanders, asked Valuev's management for a rematch, and they told him that it was possible for sometime in 2009.

Bonsu beats Baldomir!

Saturday, December 20 2008

In a WBC welterweight title eliminator, Jackson Bonsu (30-2, 23 KOs) won a twelve round majority decision over former champion Carlos Baldomir (44-12-6, 13 KOs) on Saturday in Belgium. Bonsu was deducted a point for a headbutt in round four and briefly down in round ten (more of a slip), but came away with a 114-113, 114-112, 113-113 nod. He will now need to win another elimination fight to become the next mandatory challenger of WBC champion Andre Berto.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. "I'll Beat Manny Pacquiao's Ass"

By Mark Vester

Leonard Ellerbe appears to be making the rounds with news of a possible return by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2009. Ellerbe, close friend and adviser to Mayweather, first broke the news to boxing scribe David Mayo - revealing that Floyd is now willing evaluate any and all "big fight offers" that were presented to his team, and then make a decision on a possible return.

Ellerbe has since spoken with Dan Rafael, and provided more details on Floyd's comeback. Mayweather wants to go straight into a megafight. There will be no tune-up. Mayweather has been inactive since a last December's knockout of Ricky Hatton.

"Hell no [to a tuneup]. If Floyd considers something, it would be the biggest thing," Ellerbe said.

The biggest fight for Floyd in terms of money would be against the winner of Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton, who are close to deal for a May 2 showdown in Las Vegas.

Ellerbe told Rafael that Mayweather did watch Hatton's win over Paulie Malignaggi in November and watched Pacquiao's knockout of Oscar De La Hoya on December. He was impressed with both wins and praised both fighters. According to Ellerbe, Floyd thought his father [trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr] had improved the skills of Hatton. But, when it came to the subject of fighting Pacquiao, now considered the best pound for pound fighter in the sport, there was a mix of praise and trash talking. Floyd thought the De La Hoya win was tremendous, but also told Ellerbe that he would "beat Pacquiao's ass."

"He did see Hatton's fight and said it was the best Ricky had looked in a long time with his dad [Floyd Mayweather Sr.] training him. He said Ricky looked sharp with his father in the corner. [Floyd said Pacquiao] an excellent fighter and it was a tremendous win," Ellerbe said. "But, Floyd said, 'He's a good fighter, but I'll beat his ass.' "

I listened to Dan Rafael from ESPN talk about how shitty the decision was...he said the fight was wack, but Holyfield was doing enough to win the rounds, and I think he called it the biggest travesty ever.

LOL

Fuck them both, though. The heavyweight division SUCKS.

Guzman eats a whole lot of punches. His defensive style is similar to Floyd's but he doesn't have the shoulder roll down as well, so he ends up eating a lot of straight punches. Also, he doesn't seem to pick a lot of shots off with his right hand.

He did look a bit rusty.

How did the fight end up ? I missed the end.
