Obviously, the homeless are products of Capitalist societies; therefore, I blame the system rather than the victims.

the homeless are a product of misfortune, bad desciosion making, and maybe lazyness...being poor in a capitalist country like the u.s. is a fucking joke...there are so many resources and opportunities for those who seek to better themselves...

Actually, this is incorrect, and I encourage you to take a basic course in sociology (or sociology with emphasis on economics) before you reply.

Have you ever tried living in an Apartment that's rent is 600 dollars, and you working minimum wage. Try doing that for a month, and you'll see you'll be in debt each month.

I know a couple of families that have ended up living in the streets for weeks, until they found a job paying for more than minimum, good thing his dad was a mechanic.

this thread is old, but...

i dont have anything against the homeless, or their begging and scavenging. theres a unending number of reasons why someone could end up (or choose to be) homeless, some boiling down to something as simple as freedom.

do i treat them like my equal? seeing that i give them change out of my pocket that i dont quite need, no. i guess if i treated someone like an equal i wouldnt feel pity enough to give them my change (i give change without them even asking, most times..). but as far as in a social aspect, i do treat them as my equal, i might even treat them as more experienced and knowledgable than me. they could be a LOT smarter than me and i just happen to be in a better position at the moment. at one point of life, the homeless person im giving change to may have had more materialistic shit than me and living a lot better, i cant pass judgement. i just realize that i might be better off in the present, which gives me an oppurtunity to help out.

if i ever ended up homeless and could not get a job, id hope for the same.

^FUK THAT, I'D RATHER ROB AND TAKE SOMETHIN' THAN BE PITTIED.
more often than not, i'm told stories by the homeless that are tailored to invoke some sort of pity.

"i have diabetes my husband beat me up and dropped me off here and i dont know anyone here and i need 40 bucks for the greyhound, i have 25 dollars and ive been out here all night, can you help me with a dollar?"

i heard that last night. and you shoulda saw the greasy ass mexican food she had next to her.

and i agree, id rob and steal too, but its to my understanding that homeless people have a variety of ways to make money.

they might not even be homeless. ive seen a homeless man jump in a benz.
ive also seen a homeless lady go from sitting on a crack block to jumping on a motorcycle. im sure that was a informant, but my point is that theres a variety of homeless people, some whom i do pity.

not all, of course.

For me I rather bring the man with me to a fast food restaurant and serve him food rather then give him money, this way I know he's truly poor cause he'll eat what I buy, and not complain.

i rarely give enough money to buy food anyway, and im quite aware of the fact that crack dealers dont like quarters.

i might give food i have on me, depending on their interest in it. ive been given fucked up looks by homeless people when offering food instead of money, so i sort of stopped doing that.

i think theyre entitled to spend the money i give them on whatever it is they choose. crack, alcohol, food, motel, whatever.

i usually only give dollar bills to a homeless person whos story seems to stick. i dont like bieng lied to in order to get my money.

but change? my change is for the homeless. ill give it all away.
i feel real fucked up walking by homeless people who ask for change when my pockets are like "CHING CHING CHING" passing by them..

basically because i know im lying if i say i have none, and that makes me feel guilty. even if i dont have to tell them a damn thing true if i dont want to.

the reasons for being poor may be a little off...but the resources are there, especially now in the information age...you dont need money to make money, all you need is your head, an idea and an understanding of yourself. it also wouldnt hurt if you had good communication skills....like i said you dont need money to make money...the basic tools you need to become financially independent are essentially free.
