Na, na, nah, the Bay ain't gassin on no one, buddy. Their just making a big fool of themselves with this Hyphy shit. It's childish. It's truely stupid & dumb like they say themselves. Old Bay was best and I only have respect for Old Bay rap because it sounded best and made sense, now it's all a bunch of lame/washed out fuckers running it and dumb@ss fans buying into their shit.

I don't buy much Hyphy shit...but the point that I was trying to make was that The Bay rap scene was able to find a new identity and re-invent itself music wise. While So Cal/LA has not been able to do the same thing, for the most part, and this is the reason why I feel like So Cal music is not as dominant as it was in the past.

People like to hear fresh new sounds.

Back to the topic of the thread... Above the Law
Agreed^^^

Dr. Dre also defined the original sound to the West but Above The Law started the classic G-Funk sound that was the main West Coast Sound in the early to mid 90's.

"Siren of Death," I never knew they called it that. I just refer to it as "WestCoast Whine" or "Gangsta Whine." Or if you want to be more technical, "Synth Lead." That's really all it is, a synth lead sound coming from a Synthesizer like the minimoog. I truely love that sound, it's simple, yet it fills up a beat nicely. Too bad it ain't used as much. I try to use it though in my beats. You can't abuse it though or else it has the potential to sound cheesy in some cases. I got love for my people, but my fellow Chicanos use it a bit too much in their gangsta rap to the point it sounds forced. lol

Big Hutch Gets down with his beats.

u cant just say what producers sounds west coast cuz u have the LA sound which is like battlecat, fred wreck and shit out that way then u got the hyphy sound so u can just say what sounds west coast man.
i agree, there is like 4 key westcoast styles.

-U got the real sunny skys and palmtrees feeling g-funk shit (Battlekat, fred wreck, dj quick).

-You got the mobb music sound of the bay area 90's (e-40, b-legit, bosko, ant banks).

-You got the real gangsta gangsta killer music. This is kina like a more violent version of the bays mobb music (brotha lynch hung, spice 1, x-raided)

-You got that c-walk, more mainstream style westcoast (Dre, chronic 2001)

those are the 4 main styles of westcoast beats to me. Each style has there key producers

yeah man. the question of who represents this West Coast sound the most comes down to who started the G-Funk. Above the Law will always do it and will never stray away like Dre did. His shit sucks now. It's all about who is still doing it now. and remember, Kokane is Big Hutch's cousin and is an unofficial member of Above the Law, like D.O.C. was in N.W.A. know what i'm sayin'? he's been putting out a gang of albums recently, carrying the Above the Law torch up real high. Suga Free and Kokane are gonna make the best album this year.
