Precious - this movie is about a fat, black, illiterate, teenage single mother living in Harlen in the 80's with an extremely fucked up life. Not going to say much but was a lot better than I expected, as depressing as it was at times. give it a B-. Mo'Nique surprisingly played the part of her disgusting mother very well.

This movie had potential of being an A if not for several factors - 1). they don't show/explain enough of WHY Harlem is fucked up in the first place (i.e social, economic factors that lead people to be poor, etc.) and 2). the movie demonizes people on welfare (the mother), which is common in hollywood (both republicans & democrats do this). Even Clint Eastwood did this in Million Dollar Baby (if you recall the main characters mother was a free loading welfare fat blob that wouldn't except gifts from her child in fear that she wouldn't be on welfare anymore). It kind of suggests that poor people are poor because they want to be or because they are bad people and unintelligent.

2-0-Sixx. Dude's a commie. But even in the open forum he's been known to 'subtly' drop hints that Communism works better than Capitalism. That Vodka is better than beer. That Ivan Drago could kill Rocky. And that Fedor would kill Brock Lesnar.

Go back to Russia, Vladimir!

Just watched Blood & Bone with Michael Jai White. He is a great martial artist. He really shows off his skills in this movie. As muscular as he is, I was not expecting him to be that flexible and acrobatic. Highly recommened if you like lots of martial arts action. About the only downside is he seems to be invincible and rarely takes any shots and never even comes close to losing.

Nothing really new here. Well done documentary since it is mostly just a guy sitting in a room talking the whole time.
Yeah, it was OK but looses some of its credibility because it's just one dude talking.

The End of Suburbia was much better.

Similar topic (peak oil, collapse of society, etc.), but interviews and clips from many supposed experts.

The Messenger - An American soldier struggles with an ethical dilemma when he becomes involved with a widow of a fallen officer. Ben Foster/Woody Harrelson. It's basically about two soldiers who's job is to inform the next of kin their loved one was killed in Iraq/Afghanistan. I give this movie a C. Depressing at times, shows the families of the dead soldiers very well, however the movie was dull at times and the ending was poor. Woody Harrison did a good job though. Decent film but should have been better considering the storyline.

Just saw this. Harrelson nailed his role and overall I thought the movie worked. I liked the fact that they didn't try to push a position on the war, but rather focused on the compassionate side of things and the emotions that run from it. Wasn't overly blown away by Foster's acting in this, and I thought some of his scenes with Malone were a little too awkward for their own good. Really weak ending also. Overall, I'd have to agree that this had the potential to be a really great movie, but even with it's shortcomings I'd still give it a B- and I'd recommend seeing it.

recently I watched:

Che (part 1) starring Benecio Del Toro
It was coo, but hella long and I don't speak spanish so it was hella reading.....I haven't watched part 2 yet cuz I haven't felt like sitting down to watch a book yet :ermm: the shit starts out with a geography lesson :ermm: 2.5 out of 5

9
This movie was pretty coo. Post apocalyptic world where machines destroyed man. I wanted to see it, but I didn't wanna take my 5 year old to see it. and I was right, for the most part. I guess he wouldn't notice the dead bodies laying around as much, but for an animated film it was interesting to have that. 3.5 out of 5

District 9
Alright. Not as bad as I heard. I wish they picked a different main character tho, he just didn't seem to fit at all. I'd see the sequel if (when) it gets made. 2.5 out of 5.

I haven't watched extract but after hearing the reviews from this thread I'm not really looking forward to it.

when I was watching the previews on Che they showed Gomorrah which looked pretty dope. Anyone seen that?
The Italian mob movie? I thought it was pretty good. Actually it's not a mob movie but follows several people involved in, or impacted by criminal elements in Italy. I think it deserves it's 7.1 on IMDB. Actually I'd probably give it a 7.5.

Awesome movie. Love the fact that it didn't need tons of glitz, glamor, and special effects to hold the viewer's attention. Compelling and thought-provoking without being preachy about the subject matter. Rockwell did an amazing job developing the character and displaying pretty much every emotion imaginable, without seeming forced at all. Would've liked to have seen the family situation given a little more time, and wasn't blown away with GERTY's role in the film. How could a billion/trillion dollar corporation completely blow the programming on the one robot that is essential to their sustained success? Kind of similar in a way to HAL in 2001, but with a more generic and "acceptable" conclusion, if that makes sense. Bugged me a little, but not enough to jade my overall view on the film. Ending could've been given a little more time, but it worked. Overall I'd give it an A-, or a 9/10. Easily jumped to the top of my 2009 movie favorites.

Looking forward to watching Dorian Gray, I thought the book was really good. There are several movies depicting this novel but none of them looked worthwhile. This one shows promise. I know this is "what did you just watch" but felt like commenting on it before hand. 2-0-Sixx is it good in terms of be relevant to the novel?
