Victor Ortiz's Manager: Mayweather Rumors Are False

By Ryan Burton

BoxingScene.com reached out to Victor Ortiz's manager, Rolando Arrellano, to get his take on the mounting rumors of a possible showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ortiz.

Ortiz has become a hot commodity since his impressive win over the heavily favored Andre Berto in which he captured the WBC welterweight title. As surprising as it may be, numerous outlets have have actually written articles based on a "boxrec listing" where the new welterweight champion is being listed as a comeback opponent for Mayweather on a date of September 17.

Arrellano quickly dismissed those rumors to BoxingScene.

"That is a false rumor. I'm not sure where these things come from," Arrellano said.

A source close to Mayweather's team said the boxer had no knowledge of a comeback fight with Ortiz.

Arrellano went on to say that Ortiz is enjoying his time off and he will look to secure him a fight soon.

Ortiz is currently in his home state of Kansas where tomorrow will be honored by the Governor. Arrellano told BoxingScene, "Victor is in Kansas and is going to get a proclamation from the Governor tomorrow and tomorrow is officially Victor Ortiz Day throughout the state."

FLOYD MAYWEATHER: "I'M NOT FIGHTING ANYONE...THE STORIES THAT YOU HEAR ARE LIES"
By Ben Thompson | May 10, 2011

Contrary to a number of reports, undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather has once again denied rumors about a potential return to the ring to face WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz later this year. "You're constantly hearing different rumors that Floyd is fighting this guy, Floyd is fighting that guy; at this particular time, I'm not fighting anyone," Mayweather stated during a recent exclusive interview with FightHype.com.

When asked if the rumors were true about a September 17th fight with Ortiz at Cowboys Stadium, Mayweather replied, "Absolutely not! Absolutely not! I think Victor Ortiz, he's a young, strong fighter, but the thing is this...the stories that you hear are lies, lies, lies! Period!"

Victor Ortiz had a day named after him in Kansas.

Robert Guerrero has been a great figure in boxing with an inspiring story with all his wife has dealt with and he's a 3 time, champ, 2 division champ and current unified champ and has a day named after him in Gilroy this weekend.

Ortiz has won one title and hasn't defended the title even one time and the entire state of Kansas recognizes him by giving him a day appointed by the governor lol

I still think Guerrero has accomplished more, that's not really up for debate. Though Ortiz beat the better fighter in Berto, Guerrero has had the better career to me. Going forward, it will be interesting to see what each of these Mexican-American fighters can do and they have the potential to be CRAZY popular if they keep going

I'm still hearing rumors about Mayweather fighting Ortiz this summer. It makes sense Ortiz is a lefty and he has power in both hands good tune-up fight.
