^^^no ur right thats why theyre interested in torrealba...they wanna give either catcher only a year...
According to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com, free agent first baseman Nick Johnson is "drawing lots of interest" this winter.
Johnson, 31, had the highest 2009 on-base percentage of any hitter on the market this winter and an overall batting line of .291/.426/.405. His agent, Rex Gary, told Stark on Monday that more than six teams have expressed interest. The Mets, Giants and Mariners are likely among those clubs.
The Giants are interested in free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba, according to MLB.com.
The club is preparing for the departure of Bengie Molina, who is seeking a multi-year contract. The Giants are only prepared to offer a one-year deal to Molina, because of Buster Posey's presence. Torrealba declined a two-year, $4.5 million contract from the Rockies after posting a .324/.373/.394 batting line in the second half of 2009. It's unclear, then, how he would respond to a one-year offer from San Francisco. Torrealba is a Type B free agent.
Free agent Jermaine Dye is open to switching to first base, according to Foxsports.com.
Teams have been asking Dye's agent if his client would be open to the switch. The answer, evidently, is yes. Having an open mind to playing first base, or becoming a full-time DH, should increase Dye's market value a bit. The report suggests that the Braves, Mets, Giants and Orioles could be interested in Dye as a right-handed bat at first.
Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker reports that Japanese left-hander Hisanori Takahashi is drawing interest from major league teams.
Takahashi, 34, recently declared himself a free agent after completing his 10th season with the Yomiuri Giants. Newman cites reports out of Japan that have linked him to the Giants and Rangers, however he has been quoted as saying he'd like to end up on the same team as former Yomiuri teammate Hideki Matsui. That's probably unlikely. Takahashi was 79-66 with a 3.70 ERA in 245 career games for the Giants. Though he was a starter in Japan, Newman thinks that the soft-tossing lefty is best suited as a reliever in the NL West.
