6:17pm: The Giants and Mark DeRosa are in agreement on a two-year deal believed to be worth $12MM, tweets SI's Jon Heyman.

Heyman adds that an agreement with Juan Uribe could be forthcoming as well. Earlier this week we heard that the two sides were close to a one-year deal with a team option for 2011.

According to Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com, Mark DeRosa has passed his physical and is set to sign a two-year deal with the Giants.
The deal is thought to be worth $12 million total, or about $6 million annually. DeRosa batted .250/.319/.433 with 23 homers, 23 doubles and 78 RBI this past season and is expected to man third base for the Giants.

we give up no draft picks. this is a good move for us. he will pu up better #'s than b molina. he is faster, and can run the bases. and he takes walks. let posey play this year. and sign a left fielder and we are in the mix!!!!

Pablo @ Catcher
Derosa @ 1st
Sanchez @ 2nd
Uribe @ 3rd
Renteria @ SS

or when Renteria gets hurt (inevitable lol)

Pablo @ C
Bowker @1st
Sanchez @ 2nd
Derosa @ 3rd
Urible @ SS
get it out of your head Sandoval CANT play catcher at the MLB level......maybe 1 or 2 games in emergencies..........(but thats what Posey is for)

Uribe at SS is sure to put the Giants near the bottom of the NL in terms of defense (NO RANGE)

DeRosa LF, Rowand CF, Scheirholtz RF, Sandoval @ 1B, Sanchez 2B, Renteria SS, Uribe 3B...........C idk.............

Pablo will never play catcher ever again.
i agree......unless in an absolute emergency

Uribe can also play 2nd, and Velez plays outfield and 2nd and 1st too. So even more versatility.
lol......Velez is one dementional........he has speed...........but his defense at 2nd and OF sucks........can you imagine how bad it would be at 1st.......

Does this mean we're giving up any draft picks? because he (DeRosa) was offered Arbitration, but since he declined it i'm guessing no?
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2009/269249.html

A quick primer: Type A free agents (rated in the top 20 percent of their position group, according to Elias Sports Bureau calculations outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement) bring back the signing team's first-round pick and a supplemental first-rounder, while Type B free agents (in the 21-40 percent range of their position group) yield only the sandwich pick. The free agent's former club must offer him arbitration in order to receive compensation.

if we (Dodgers) needed a a 3rd baseman/LF'er........and we signed DeRosa for 6M a year......i would be shouting "YES" at full volume
I understand why people like Derosa and yes, you're right, at 6M a year, thats nice compared to some of the other signings we've had. To me though, he's just not a guy who is going to play good at ATT. He's slow, he's 35, and he hits .250. He had 20 homeruns 2+ seasons, thats no where near how many he'll hit at ATT park. I've also heard he's a good clubhouse guy, but as a player he's like another Aaron Rowand and Travis Ishikawa. We got a couple guys who can bat .260 and hit 15HR a year.

Giants Sign Mark DeRosa
By Tim Dierkes [December 29 at 12:35pm CST]

The Giants signed Mark DeRosa to a two-year, $12MM deal today. SI's Jon Heyman tweeted news of the offer on December 23rd, and ESPN's Buster Olney tweeted that day that DeRosa was leaning toward accepting. Yesterday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports said a two-year deal was close. Following that, Heyman tweeted that an agreement had been reached.

Rosenthal says DeRosa will fill a third base/super-utility role for the Giants. He reminds us that the Giants are also close to re-signing Juan Uribe, which would make for a "very versatile roster" and would push Pablo Sandoval to first base.

$6MM a year is big bucks for DeRosa, as he turns 35 in February and had wrist surgery in November. The Cardinals will receive a supplemental draft pick for their loss. The Cards never made a formal offer to DeRosa, reports Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

I really hope we sign LaRoche....I want Pablo to stay at 3B. A LaRoche-Sandoval-DeRosa heart of the order would be pretty good, IMO.
