Pablo should be better defensively this year, might increase his range and speed since he's dropping weight like crazy and doing strength and conditioning out in the desert.

A 3-5 that can produce 65+ HR's and drive in 250+ runs combined with our pitching would only amount to a 4th/5th place finish?
What makes you think because LaRoche hit in Atlanta and Pittsburgh, that he can do it at AT&T? Besides the one season he hit .285, he's never hit over .272. Im not too sure about LaRoche at all and for anything over 5 million a year for him is to much. What has he proved besides teams like to trade for him? But the Giants arent going to sign him anyways.

DeRosa is a number 2 hitter or 6th or 7th hitter on a good hitting team. To expect him to put up 5 hole numbers, at the age of 35, coming off surgury and coming to AT&T for his first year, is asking alot of a player.

Could they become a good 3-5 hitters? Sure. But you cant assume that your going to get 40+ Hr's and 150 Rbi's out of those two guys either. LaRoche avgs 22 Hr's and 78 Rbi's, while DeRosa has only hit over 13 Hr's once and avgs 78 Rbi's. Thats what they average, not what they do year in and year out. Plus, again can they do it at AT&T?

But The chances of that being the Giants 3-5 hitters, are the same as the Giants winning the World Series.

Rekz..........i can see 250 rbis but asking for 65+ HR, IMO, is a bit much......

im actually high on DeRosa but not at all on LaRoach...again thats just my opinion.....

as things stand right now...i can see Colorado taking the division......with their pitching and hitting

rich aurillia had a carer year and so did jeff kent hitting in front and behind a factor in barry bonds. granted pablo aint barry, but when they have to throw fast balls to make sure pablo not hitting with runners on, hitters will hit better. and also pitchers having to pitch from the stretch with runners on give pablo an advantage. its all part of the plan. we will be better this year than last year baring injuries. all productive bats are welcomed in SF, and derosa will produce at a high level his year. im thinking positive.

IDK where you got your numbers, but they're wrong. LaRoche averages 26 HR a season...while DeRosa is at around 14 (but has hit 20+ the last two seasons)....If they ONLY reach they're avg and Sandoval hits ~25 HR thats the 65 HR that I was talking about. This is all hypothetical though, and is one of the reasons I am advocating for LaRoche.

I'll post something more in-depth, in a bit.

lol sorry but your wrong. I got no idea where your getting 26 from but thats incorrect. LaRoche averages 22.6 Hrs.....136 home runs in 6 seasons = 22.6

Averaging a little over 20 home runs in Atlanta and Pittsburgh (two hitter's park), doesnt mean its going to being a for sure thing at AT&T. His average in Pitt was .263 and thats in one of the better hitting parks in the MLB. Whats it going to be at AT&T? Im guessing .240-.260. And he wants 10 million a season? The Giants could spend there money elsewhere and get more for their money.

I really would like to know your reasons for why you like LaRoche so much. Im not saying he's a bad player but for what the Giants would have to spend, I dont see him putting the Giants over the top and into the playoffs...

I wonder if we are going to go after Torrealba again now that it looks like Colorado signed Miguel Olivo as their backup catcher. Oh yeah, ooo-ree-bay is back for those that didn't notice.

Giants Reach Agreement With Juan Uribe
By Tim Dierkes [December 30, 2009 at 11:07am CST]

The Giants reached an agreement with Juan Uribe, tweets SI's Jon Heyman. The deal is pending a physical. The Giants were first reported to be closing in on a deal with Uribe by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on December 24th. Rosenthal suggested it'd be one year with a club option.

With Mark DeRosa in the fold and guaranteed a starting job, Uribe could be used in a super-utility role for the Giants again. His January minor league deal with the Giants proved to be one of last offseason's best, as he hit .289/.329/.495 in 432 plate appearances while playing solid defense at second base, shortstop, and third base. I'm surprised he didn't land with a team with a more obvious everyday infield job available.

The Giants have "minimal" interest in free agent first baseman Mike Jacobs, according to Chris Haft of MLB.com.
The Giants are hoping to add a little more offense to their roster and Jacobs is a decent fit if used primarily against right-handers. Jacobs hit just .228/.297/.401 and struck out 132 times in 434 at-bats last year, but he has a .830 OPS against righties and boasts a decent amount of power.

Juan Uribe's new contract with the Giants does not contain an option for 2011, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.
It's just a one-year deal, which makes more sense for the utility-like role he'll play for the club in 2010. If Uribe hits well in limited time, perhaps he'll be in line for a raise next offseason. The 30-year-old hit .289/.329/.495 last year with 16 home runs and 55 RBI in 432 plate appearances.

Uribe also passed his physical.
