Hue Jack City is the man and here's why we had to get rid of cable. what a dumbass:

from one of the first times Jackson met McFadden during the 2010 offseason.

Jackson crossed paths with McFadden in the weight room in Alameda and asked him about why he struggled his first two seasons with the Raiders.

We’ll let Jackson take it from here.

“I asked Darren, I said, ‘What is it that you like to run? You were a Heisman Trophy finalist. What was it that put you in that group of people?’ ” Jackson said. “And he said, ‘Coach, I’m used to running a certain type of run.’ And I go, ‘Well, why don’t we run them here?’ He said, ‘It’s not our style.’ And I go, ‘Well, what do you like to run?’

“And he rattled off about three or four runs that he really enjoys, and I said, ‘OK, they’re in.’ And he looked at me and said, ‘No way.’ He said, ‘Oh, no, they’re not.’ I go, ‘Yes, they are.’ And that’s what we did. And 1,157 yards later, that’s who Darren McFadden is.”

McFadden recalled the exchange and said he is grateful.

I'm betting, it's because those plays require power blocking and cable's dumbass didn't want to do anything outside of zone. the o-linemen have already said things are a lot simpler this year with the style they are doing, they like it better.

It's true. Cable's playcalling was horrible. He'd run McFadden up the middle on like every play. That's not the type of back McFadden is. That's suitable for a bruiser like Frank Gore or 2005 Larry Johnson.

McFadden is the type of back you need to get out in space. Once that happens, it's over. Plays designed to get him out on the perimeter or in space are what's appropriate for him.

Barring injury, he's gonna have a monster year. Best Raiders first round Pick since Nnamdi.

that's not really what was changed. what hue did was implement more power blocking schemes, which allowed mcfadden to have similar run plays like the ones he had in college. mcfadden was near the top of the league in average yards when going up the middle.

yeah, McFadden showed he could go up the middle and make contact last season. I used to think he couldn't... but I think the blocking scheme had a lot to do it

Hue's power blocking > Cable's zone blocking

funny how our head coach was an O-line coach but our O-line became drastically better when we stopped using his offensive line schemes all the time

The blocking scheme changed, yes, but I think McFadden's breakout had more to do with creative and appropriate play-calling than anything else.

It's clear that the power scheme helped him with more produdctive runs in between the tackles.. but that's still not where McFadden is most dangerous..

Hue brought the power-scheme back, so it's all related. But it was the selection of plays more than anything. How many times did Cable use McFadden as a receiver out of the back-field before Hue came aboard?
Hue opened up the playbook and used McFadden how he was supposed to be used.
