ICP does show that it is possible to gain major fame indipendently (But they are very few and far in between) and i didn't say it wasn't possible.I was just saying your odds are much better on a major.
I wouldn't say much better. I'd say about the same or worse.

The risk you run by signing to a major is that you may NEVER actually come out because you don't have control over that. The big wigs have the final say so whether your project gets any push.

As long as you're indie, you have control over whether you come out or not.

well you're closer then I am. your an artist and a producer whos dropped a CD so I'm sure you network and talk to people and witness shit I don't.

you're right there are up and down sides to being major and being indie.

but as far as this arument..
"the major has more access to media venues"
that was pretty much my point in the argument. Being on a major ups your chances to be on those outlets, which brings fame. Fame you're way less likely to achieve doing it indie.

Your saying that your odds of being nationaly famous are about the same or worse if your on a major. Come on man..I could name sooo many artists who are famous from being on majors, how many famous indie cats can you name. And when i say famous i'm talking about that household name type famous

That's a given. That has nothing to do with artists though, lol

If you don't actually put an album out, how can you be famous!?!?

That's my point.

Lots of people get on majors and never get famous, but your chances are bigger if your on a major. We could just name names and prove it...its obvious

What I should have said was that you could have established that earlier point about majors and media outlets without even bringing newly signed artists into the discussion. That's one of those "duh" statements

It includes newly signed artists, lots of newly signed artists never get pushed and dont get famous i'm sure. But the ones that do get majorly famous. a fame you for the most part cant achieve independtly

I disagree for reasons you don't seem to understand. I understand what you're saying, but I disagree.

Plus, you're trying to base your argument on what has happened in the past and you're not considering the current and potential future climate of the industry.

you don't like the hyphy music? if so, why?
it's just not real, shit no hyphy rappers 'rap from the heart' when they spit on a hyphy track.. the bay was shinin durin the 90's and a lil bit after but alot of things changed, we lost a ton of talented rappers such as Cougnut, Mr. C, Hitman, Seagram, Mac Dre.. then we had another handfull of rappers that were locked up at one point or another like Rappin 4Tay, Totally Insane, Richie Rich and so many more. the other remaining talent in the bay at the time such as E-40 and Too Short we're puttin it down, but at the same time were doin alot of features with other mainstream artists and non bay area rappers and kinda faded away from the bay area music scene. that led to the rise of crunk and all those other music scenes in other regions to rise above.... i duno that's just my thought..

household names to me, just off the top are: snoop dogg, ice cube, 50 cent, eminem, 2pac, BIG, p diddy, mc hammer. those are household names.
as far as in the rap community then there are several people that i could name, hell about 20, and you can thank the brainwashing of radio and video play for that. but what me and peete are tryin to say is this: lets say i sign a major deal. i start workin my album, i turn it in. oh the a&r wants more radio friendly tracks. ok, so i turn it in again. he says ok this sounds hot, lets put this on hold, and you go drop a mixtape to get your name out there. i drop a mixtape. a get a lil buzz. then i do a lil magazine article here and there. then they may say they want me to drop another mixtape to get the buzz going. then they drop my single, but to my damn luck a month goes by, and well i don't have enough spins on the radio and it would be a risk to put it out there. so they try to push it some more, the push back my album, then they put it out. yes i skipped some shit, but here is the point:
it is a risk, it is not guaranteed you will have fame and notoriety with a major deal.
so tell me this friend, the pack had a HUGE single with vans. HUGE. yet they pushed only 11,000 they first week. do you consdier that a success?
to me they got national exposure, but it did not translate into units, and thats what matters at the end of the day

^^ that may be true that I'm not considering the future climate of the industry..i'm not close enough to it to see whats going on, on the inside.

Once again you're back to arguing what's better indie or major. as i stated several times by now, I was soley addressing fame. Growing up in the bay and watching cats make so much money off indie albums, I definetly see the benefits of being independent and if I was in the game thats where I would be. I would only go major if I could find a deal just as or more beneficial as my indie game.

i am not arguing that at all. read my post again. that is what cats go thru with a major.
I am not a fool, if universal called me and wanted to sign me i would. But i know the risks involved.
and you did not answer my question: the pack. are they famous to you?
janet jackson at one point said vans was her favorite song
