the proof is in the pudding...name one indie artist who is more known then the big mainstream artists.
ok see now you contradicting yourself
what are we arguing about here, national exposure or being a big mainstream artist?
national exposure? all you need to do is grind it out and make good music
big mainstream artist? then you need a major deal, hit singles, good promo, top 10 videos, etc.
those are 2 different things to me

well they go hand in hand, being a big mainstream artists = more national exposure.

Mainstream is a term to me that means your a household name or atleast known to pretty much everyone who listens to rap

the global population. If you polled everyone in the world who knows who 50 cent is or who knows who Young Jeezy is vs. Tech N9ne or nickatina...the results are obvious
lol
50cent is one in a million success story
see you going off topic, we talkin about national exposure not big superstars.
sure that is true, but who is to say if our favorite bay rappers get a major deal that they will achieve the same success? that my friend is the question.

Sounds like you're looking to see who wins a popularity contest, lol

I get it. You assume that everyone who gets signed to a major label actually gets an album released to the public and therefore gets a "shot" at making global noise. NOT TRUE.

Remember The Clipse? Remember Rass Kass? Whatever happened to Rakim, or Eve? Now these are artists that somewhat carry weight in the mainstream, but guess what? ALL WERE SHELVED!!!! Shit Pharrell almost got shelved, lol

So if artists with names can get shelved, imagine what happens to all of the cats that get signed that we don't know about. They can get shelved to.

Go to any major label's website and look at their artist roster and count how many of the artists on the roster actually released albums versus the ones who haven't.

My point is, is that, that kind of national exposure (50 cents) is only possible thru major labels. Does everyone on a major achieve that success..definetly not. But you have a way better chance of it, then if you're indie.

Someone from the bay signing to a major doesnt mean they'll be the next 50 cent..but you have to admit they have a way better chance of becomign the famous if theyre on a major.

I understand that being on a major doesnt gurantee any kind of success at all..we've established that. But Do you agree that you have a better chance of being more famous if your on a major over an idie

I'm not arguing to say that we every artist should be on a major and thats all they should work for. If thats what they want, then thats them. I myself would prefer quality, repsect, and money over fame.

my arguements is plain and simple. Being on a major gives you a better chance of being nationaly famous then if you're on an indie.

No because fame is such a subjective term nowadays...

You can do something stupid, put it on Youtube and you're famous.

but we are arguing from two points of view my friend.
but everything in life needs a process, and thats how the bay has to be..
look at the south. you think the south blew up overnight? of couse not. they did there thing for about 10 years bro before they majors put them on. its all a process.
but now its harder than ever to succeed on a major.

ICP does show that it is possible to gain major fame indipendently (But they are very few and far in between) and i didn't say it wasn't possible.I was just saying your odds are much better on a major.

So as someone who is closer to the industry then I am. Are your chances at being the MTV kind of famous bigger on a major or staying indie your entire career

close to the industry? bwa ha ha ha lol
man, i keeps it real, i'm not even close in that regard! but you know going thru what i went thru in my life with music, meeting the people i met in daygo and around the west coast, putting out my album locally, as far as me for me?
I have no chance at being signed to a major, so the indie for me is the only option. and thats whole nother topic of discussion that would get into my personal life.
its equal, bailey was on mtv, so was keak.
the major has more access to media venues. but the major ultimately decides what songs are hot and if they will use they promo dollars to push an artist to the maximum with radio and video play. but its all a gamble. nothing in music or life for that matter is guaranteed
