he is right. just cuz you signed on a major does not necessarily mean you will blow up or get natinal recognition. it is really up to the individual to make the best out of the situation, because major lables nowadays are not gonna help and groom you into being the superstar an artist wants to be. i would say the last cat who got a big lable push was T.I. and 50 cent, oh and e-40 got a super push for his album last year too.
this is true but what are the odds of being on national level while your on an idie vs. a major? Being on a major give you way better odds of getting national push, plugs, T.V. shows, radio play, video play...and so on. Or even being on a major indie, like koch, gives you better national exposure then any small time indie.

well blame al sharpton for going after him first.
cuz now "white media" are like, ok you take away imus, so we gonna attack rap now. plus the election is coming up so hip hop will be a focal point as well
Fuckin Al Sharpton...

If Dru Down is the Perminator, Al Sharpton is the P1000

"No, not foolish. You're chances of being shelved are are waaaaay bigger. You also have to keep in mind that depending on your contract, you can't release ANY material unless it comes out through the major label you're signed to. Some of y'all are brainwashed to think that being on TV and in the public eye = successful and it's sooooooo not what it seems."

Being on a major doesn't mean you'll be financially succesful thats for sure, if thats what you mean. I'm sure alot of people see more money indie then on majors. how many people are straight indie and are doing it national? you have to be on a major or get some kind of major push to be seen all over country, the world..Your album might come out on an indie and you'll collect hella money off it, but you wont be national (its just up to wat matters more to the artist)

I never said it was automatic?? haha. I said what are the chances. Your chances of gettign national exposure are bigger if your on a major, then indie..who that is completley indie getting their shit on MTV, getting T.V. commercials, being in big time movies.

Who is gettign national exposure? people on mainstream labels..If you mean who in the bay? Only e-40..who is on a major

You're assuming every artists end goal is the national television "look at me, I'm on the red carpet on Entertainment Tonight and in the tabloids" exposure. Some cats are happy with just GETTIN MONEY and don't need all of the attention

If thats how what i wrote reads to you then let me tell you that is not my intention. I'm just saying that if you're going to get national exposure your chances are way bigger on a major label.

Am i assuming or do I think everyone should just sell out and get on a major for a chance to be national?..hell no. I just want people to make good music. The indie game brings people alot more money in some cases and often allows for more creative control and i'm all for that. But this arguement was about the bay getting national exposure, and i was saying that to get national exposure for the most part u need to be on a major for that kind of attention

whether fame is better then money or visa versa is a whole other topic

You're actually wrong though. I can see how you think this is true, but you're wrong.

ok well I disagree. you do not need to be signed on a major to get national attention. if you grind it out and network, put out some dope shit and hit the road, you will get the attention you need nationally. look at tech n9ne for example, very good example right there
Andre Nickatina being another

That is true people like yuk and tech n9ne and shit do shows all over the world and alot of people know about them. But I was addressing full on national attention, being TV, having your songs on the radio..that kind of shit. They are doing it very big for what being indie can allow you, but they are still vastly unknown to the majority of people. Without major media outlets behind you're still going to be relatively unknown
