Black men may make up 10% of those unemployed in America.....dont confuse that with 10% of us being unemployed.10% of us are locked up,thats is true,but much,much more than 10% of us are jobless.In some cities over 60% of the black male population over the age of 16 are jobless.Ask any black man from Milwaukee,NYC,Cleveland,Memphis,Gary,Detroit,Atlanta,Chicago,LA,baltimore,etc weather 90% of us are working and they will most likely laugh at you.Of coarse most whites will refuse to believe this.

Nearly Half of Black Men Found Jobless

It is well known that the unemployment rate in New York City rose sharply during the recent recession. It is also understood that the increase was worse for men than for women, and especially bad for black men. But a new study examining trends in joblessness in the city since 2000 suggests that by 2003, nearly one of every two black men between 16 and 64 was not working.



The study, by the Community Service Society, a nonprofit group that serves the poor, is based on data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics and focuses on the so-called employment-population ratio - the fraction of the working-age population with a paid job - in addition to the more familiar unemployment rate, the percentage of the labor force actively looking for work.

Mark Levitan, the report's author, found that just 51.8 percent of black men ages 16 to 64 held jobs in New York City in 2003. The rate for white men was 75.7 percent; for Hispanic men, 65.7; and for black women, 57.1. The employment-population ratio for black men was the lowest for the period Mr. Levitan has studied, which goes back to 1979.

Milwaukee had the highest black unemployment rate of the major cities surveyed in 2002 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The bureau also found that 59% of Milwaukee's black males 16 and older were idle, and that the city's black unemployment rate was more than three times its white unemployment rate.

I know for a fact that at least 59% of black men are jobless in my city, and i also know this is not unique to Milwaukee.

And of those that are working, the vast majority are underemployed...not making enough to provide for one man let alone a family.

The vast majority of African American men in their early twenties who were employed were relegated to marginal, low-wage jobs for the duration of the 39 month period studied with most of the jobs in retail trades and the service industries.......only 885 of the 8,421 jobs held by men in the study population paid a living wage, and only 386 jobs paid a family wage.

I do not believe financial or land reparations are appropriate. I believe reparations should be distributed to local African American community centers and educational resources. By helping build local African American communities and donating new educational resources and scholarships for African Americans the government would not be giving free hand outs, but providing routes to upward mobility. By providing community benefits and education, the government would be giving African Americans a chance to better the quality of life for themselves and future generations.

First off just giving out money to blacks will never happen. Even if the Govt. did this I personally wouldnt accept due to the fact that paper money is printed regulated and Controlled by these same evil men who enslaved us. #1. Our families and communties have been robbed of billions,BILLIONS of dollars worth of labor and tax money paid to a government that does not respect our interests.

#2. Because of this robbery,it has forever tainted american society, making truths such as white felons getting more job opportunties than black men with no record and the same qualifcations,blacks getting stiffer penalities in the justice system,and other rampant,widescale acts of discrimination which effects black people daily.

#3.The repression of blacks did not end with slavery, we all know about Jim Crow, Cointelpro,and other government sponsered agendas that destroyed/hindered black progress,in my lifetime,the life time of my parents and grandparents.

#4. Blacks still suffer from all of this til this day,therefore,we are truelly owed reparations,we wont get them,but still,the shit is owed.
