C-hrymes...I think most of us respect what you doin, and believe you got good intentions. What I would like to see happen is get the local scene with local music really crackin..get them kids out in them streets talking about functions...do some shit at the parks etc....invest in some great promotional give aways, become active within communities etc. These investments if done right might come back to you in a bigger way...as it stands now its every man for himself. personally Chrymes. If i was to be 100% honest with you I would say you have a better chance in some other part of the business then as an artist (although I dont really want to crush no dreams) as someone else said everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.

Right
1ST OF ALL I RESPECT UR OPINION, BUT U NOR JESUS HIM SELF COULD CRUSH MY DREAMS. LOL. LIKE AZ-IZ SAID.. IM LIKE THE ENERGIZER BUNNY IN THIS BITCH. AND AS FAR AS DOIN SHIT AT THE PARK AND BEING INVOLVED WITH THE COMMUNITY GOES. I'VE DONE THAT TOO. FROM DONATING MY TIME AND TALENTS TO GOMPERS STUDENTS ALL THE WAY TO RAISING MONEY FOR M.A.D.D. TO HELP BURY SOMEONE KILLED IN A DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENT. IM CONSTANTLY FUCKIN WITH THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB AND OTHER YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS. I GIVE YOUNG HIGHSCHOOL ARTIST FREE STUDIO TIME. SO NO, ITS NOT ALL FOR SELF. IM DOING EVERYTHING POSSIBLE MY FRIEND. BUT AT THE END OF IT ALL, I AM AN ARTIST AND WILL CONTINUE TO PERFECT MY CRAFT EVEN IF I NEVER ''BLOW UP''. I WILL DIE HAPPY KNOWING I GAVE IT MY ALL. AND I WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR THAT IF NOTHING ELSE.

@ CHRYMES-you aint garbage I would not put you in that category at all. You way better than a lot of these people claimin they rappers. I can def hear who your influence is. I'm not a fan of smoke songs because Yukmouth killed the shit so viscious on both his that you gotta come wit some hella original shit. Nobody on Dry Land was the shit too IMO. You flip, which is funny I cited Likwid to you and he is one of the masters of the flip. I dug the Keak the Sneak verse that shit goes hella smooth wit the beat not forced but on some natural shit. You got plugs that if the right Daygo rapper got on we could show what we do down here. I stand by what I said earlier but it aint all bad. I also feel you and your dream is your dream. I will make sure I find you and introduce myself to you because muthafuckas is comin at you hard but its all Daygo love and to do some shit on the computer without that respect is kind of gay. IMO You are an AVERAGE to GOOD rapper, you have the potential to be a super GREAT business man at this shit and the town needs you. Junk is right ultimatly because you catchin shit for pushin but this is my truth. When I was doin Prosessions I had to step away from the mic, it was hard but it would not be successful if i didn't. Although I can spit I'm better at other things, things that's my niche. the other people that was part of it and made it happen played their part. The rappers played their part. My role to me was about 10% of it's success. Nowadays People have to be Puffy and Biggie, Shug and Tupac, because everybody wanna play center stage.

I WANNA THANK U FOR TAKING THE TIME TO GIVE MY MUSIC A CHANCE. FO' REALS, ITS ALREADY HARD BEING A ''LATINO RAPPER'', SO WHEN FOLKS SEE US THEY THINK WE ON SOME VATO LOCO ABC SHIT AND DONT EVEN GIVE IT A CHANCE. OR IN UR CASE TURNED OFF BY THE GRAFFICS (WHICH I PLAN ON STEPPIN UP AS WELL). I NEVER CLAIMED TO BE THE DOPEST, BUT I KNOW MY MUSIC IS QUILITY AND I CAN STAND BEHIND IT PROUDLY. DAGO NEEDS ME LIKE I NEED DAGO. AND THATS JUST BEING REAL. I NEVER HAD A REAL TEAM BEHIND ME TO PUSH SO I HAD TO BECOME ''MR. I DO IT ALL''. MAYBE ONE DAY I WILL HAVE THAT TEAM AND I COULD JUST FOCUS MORE ON BEING AN ARTIST, BUT EVEN THEN I DONT THINK I COULD JUST SIT AND LET FOLKS GUIDE MY CARREER WITH OUT HAVING MY SAY IN IT. THATS WHY I HAVENT SIGNED ANY CONTRACT THATS BEEN TOSS IN MY FACE YET. I REFUSE TO BE PUT ON THE SELF AGAIN LIKE MY FIRST RECORD DEAL. ANY WAYS GET AT ME HOMIE 619 634 1140.. MY NUMBER IS ALL OVER THE NET ALREADY SO I AINT TRIPPIN. IM ONE OF THE EASIEST ARTIST TO CONTACT IN THE TOWN. GET AT ME G.

Nobody makes money off cds.. not even the big names.. they make they money off ringtones, downloads, etc. and most important shows.. they go on tours and get paid each show.. thas what im sayin.. i mean if youre breakin even then thats not a good business move... but we all learn that as we go i aint faultin you in that im jus sayin that money u could possibly invest in somethin else that will further u to the point to where ur getting paid for shows... i aint knockin what u doin but i feel that its a waste if i were to do it tho.. especially if im not getting paid..
Dave, i beg to differ. Maybe as a whole or only being on the artist level, u dont make much off ur CD's. But if you have a solid business plan, good musik, and hustle, and u own ur shit... You'll do okay. Now I'm not gonna say I'm ballin outta kontrol and doin this and doin this that, kuz nighas that kno me kno I get money multiple wayz but I WILL say this. For me to get a regular 9 to 5 even payin 15/hr would be a pay kut to my CD sales. Even if I did both.....

Now the show scene in Daygo is hella fucked up. Chrymes, getcha money, but me personally kan't fathom paying for an opening act. I dont kare if Jay-Z, E-40, and whoeva the fuck is opening. I jumped into rapping off of the LOVE of being on stage. And thats where the money is. Daygo is azz backwards charging for slots and selling tickets and shit...

But that is particularly the artist fault. After speaking with E Low and Network about pursuing showcases in the city I was warned about the Daygo artist mindframe. No hustle, so naturally for a promoter to make doe he gotta charge... I say fuck all that..... I fux wit tha huslerz.... I wont book u if I neva seen u Hustlin in the streetz, period.

Jimmy Powers, do ya thing. I would love to see Urban Underground kome back and have Gi Gi email me, we must [email protected].... but the only problem I had with UU was they let ANYBODY perform which fucked up the quality of the event. PLEEAASE dont make that same mistake, make m/f's audition....

So for the San Diego artist tryna make it in this game I leave this advice:

Invest in yourself
Invest in your product
Market your product yourself
and most importantly.....

MAKE MONEY OFF YOUR PRODUCT....FUCK THE FAME.....

I know a lot of BROKE famous people. I also kno some m/f's thats paid and u've NEVER heard of em. If your gonna do this musik shit STOP FUCKIN HALF STEPPIN. That is the cities problem, we half step with everything but dope dealing and gangbangin. Everything else muthafuckas be playin wit, this Musik shit, and a whole bunch of un-related things. You got muthafuckas like me, Dave, and a bunch of other muthafuckas that do this shit EVERYDAY for a living. Not as a hobby. Real Spit, everybody aint makin it but everybody kan make money, if u do it right.....

Good Lookin to CityBeat and the Reader for showin a nigha all that love. It is true what they say, hard work does pay off.....

i might be part of the problem, but the big picture is i'm a representitive of the reality.

one, i can do without a DUI driving home from the spot

two, loud ass mics, shitty speakers, shitty mcs, annoying people in the crowd and expensive ass drinks sitting on the wall smoking all my weed is not my idea of a night out

three, what the fuck show is even worth ten bucks....name me one....ive been to some OK shows in san diego but ther reality is it was only because i got hella drunk and didnt notice how shitty it was.

there needs to be more incentive for the regular person to go to a show. better drink specials or maybe throw some side shit like a battle or a art show along with it or some shit....i dont know...its not my job to market yall hustle cuz u dont pay me for that....but therres ways and thats what marketing and promotion is about....you cant just be like mc blah blah in the house and i give a fuck... because 70 percent of san diegos mc's i can more than likely hear for free in someones house and i probably want them to shut the fuck up after 4-5 minutes of rapping...and 80 percent of any MC that someone could afford to throw a show out here i baaaarely care about. i mean im not tryna see homeboy i fucked with in 1995. i wanna see someone headline i fuck with right now.

fourth who exactly is putting out shows with artists i want to hear. why dont you try throwing your own bob marley fest and getting reggae artists? bring some other type shit here. that 'come and support my struggling rap show but pay 15 bucks' shit is kinda stupid. id much rather support a buju banton show than MC get-on-the-stage-and-yell. i used to chll OUTSIDE hot monkey love cafe because people freestyling oputside was better than what was inside. so you get my drift. get guinness to sponsor you and give us some drink specials, shows need to get more creative with how they market and on top of that find new venues, even if you have to start hosting them at undisclosed locations like punk shows do.

i mean honestly....you might still have an issue getting me to your show if its free. why? im gonna sit there and my bank account is going to go down because i bought 5-7 dollar beers instead of a six pack at the store, come 11pm its always like 7 mutha fuckas tryna smoke the one blunt i rolled and i dont even know how the fuck they congregated outside with me, then someone needs a ride home...fuck

im best off listening to the music at home most times

there needs to be more park jams and kick-it's, park functions and shit
if someone gets shot someone gets shot

every time i go to a show my bank account is 100.00 less
thats the main point i want to make

sure thats my fault. thats my spending habits. but thats why i opt to not going to your show in comparison to staying home and taking a rain check. make things a little less like a hustle and i come out to support. liek junk will call me and be like im puttin on a show come through. so due to that imma come help set up and ill be there to put shit away. ill tell people to come out and ill help with flyers even if i can. those shows are more like family functions and i feel invited, not like 'come through so i can make some money'...they money will be made regardless if the footwork is put in...

sometimes ill go to a show tho.....but if it dosent seem like im gonna have fun, why bother? everyones been to a place that they sit around inside of for an hour and then you just be like, man i wanna go back home this is boring..

i went to rock the bells and before it was over with, i spend +200.00......and decided fuck rap shows altogether...basically just to see people like wu tang mumble on stage from 700,000 feet away...i wanted to leave the moment i saw beers were 9 dollars

I totally agree with the quality of those UU shows, but most of the dope acts in this city are on some high horse shit and ain't gonna open for the love of it or the exposure..there is some thing in the water that makes people think that just because they are dope they get paid, when the only way I see it, you get paid off your draw or the amount of work you put in...if you have 50 people show up to see you or your group, then you deserve money, but in all actuallity JiJi is still booking the openers
(but I do have the ability to give slots away to dope acts that bring people out)...like I said before I just convinced her to bring it back with the promise of design, work, artist liason, and my uncanny ability to finese the footwork, haha..just playing...., but I can cover the slack of the artist that don't put in the work..I am basically a high ranking employee to JiJi, because I understood how important UU shows were to this city, regaurdless of the sub par openers...I have no problem working for someone else nah mean, I would much rather anyway...less stress.

I know a lot of BROKE famous people. I also kno some m/f's thats paid and u've NEVER heard of em.
Good Lookin to CityBeat and the Reader for showin a nigha all that love. It is true what they say, hard work does pay off.....
This one thing that people fail to realize...Hip Hop is a giant facade, I have seen dudes bubble up real fast, they go lease a Range Rover, then you see them in a 3 Series BMW 6 months later, then you see them 6 months after that with an 05' Altima cause the money ain't coming anymore or they got a shitty deal...I know fools that people may think are chipped the fuck up, but they can't even afford a consistent pre-paid celly....and I know dudes that get paid "BANK" to dig for samples and sell them to established producers....cause the right sample in the right hands can make a million dollars...Dudes that have been on MTV Thailand with a number one hit becasue they were in the right place at the right time.....
even though CD Sales have been trumped by Digital and Ringtones, there is still many ways to make money in this shit....

on a seperate note.....anyone can throw a show, just need to be detailed and dedicated....it is very simple....like throwing a party at your house in essence, but you have certain demands that need to be met. there are alot of venues in SD that are open to having Hip Hop shows, some better than others....I can give contacts to anyone that wants to give it a try...

I always try to get a drink special, PB blew up because Bar and Grill offers $2 Coronas on Tuesdays, Moondoogies does $2 you call it's on Thursday...Sinbad's does $1 Pints every Monday and so on....

I convinced Jason @ Riley's to do $3 U-Call It's (everything but long islands and jaeger-type bombs) from 8-10pm every friday....I have been telling him to extend it to atleast 11pm....that way it is more appealing, cause we all know noone in this city rolls out to the spots until 10pm anyway....but I do understand the Marketing aspect, it's just hard to convince the venues to lower there price for your event, cause they look at you like " Why is this dude so special, asking me to change my shit?"...and they are just skeptical anyway....I try homie, believe me, making these shows as smooth as possible is like Commnunism....It looks good on paper, but it just never works out as planned, and someone always ends up unhappy...so i just do the best I can..

one thing i hate to say is, party and bar promoters have to keep in mind they are up against tijuanas low costs and huge party atmospheres so like you just said, drink specials and little special things on the marketing side to get the partygoers there is important and thats definitelyt where the moneys gonna come in. i doubt theres as much venue competition with mexico due to the drug war is going on, but 5 minutes from here coronas are a dollar...and i cannot name the amount of people on two hands that roll right through san diego and go to tijuana..both locals and out of towners...

like all them e-40 shows in tijuana were probably good turn outs...

its definitely about catering to the PARTYGOERS AND CLUBBERS and not just necessarily the rap fans..

and maybe marketed for the females? cuz im sure as you know if the attractive females are in attendence it helps the turnout and they are lickely to bring friends in comparison to the dude thats just liek fuck it imma roll to the show....i think girls be out to have a good time alot more.

i just havent seen anything that caught my eye lately...i remember when shows at the maritime in san francisco used to pop hard....i used to go to those. those might be my favorite cocert memories. i guess maybe san diego just isnt known for shows yet as much as some other places are. it could easily change one day, though. itll just take trial and error i guess.

@ Gas

great point Homie....SD is a metling pot of different cultures and types of party's...and the daily competition is outrageous...why would someone pay 15 dollars to sit @ The Stage Saloon on Friday when they can pay 5 Dollars more and be surrounded by beautiful women @ BELO and prolly have a better time...alot of cities Igenerally have one go to promoter or promo team. SD's got House of Rep, Phat Dok, The Armory, Junk, Chrymes, Destructo Bunny,Rhyme Lab, Rock Hill Ent., Sean Healy's Crook Ass, Never Say Die, Coup Music (me), Kayo and his team, and I am sure there is WAY more..

Thats where my heart and dedication is. Running my label. Its just hard pushing someone who doesn't share the same desire and will you do. I done broke plenty artist, a majority of Down south artist but they didn't want to go as far as I was willing to go. Unbelievable shit. I had a muthafucka from Dallas with constant rotation on the local radio on one of my tracks and in all the bubblin this muthafucka quit rappin!!!! I got other artist but some just aren't break through artist. They need that foundation laid....

That why I push myself. I am confident in my team and they're success but somebody gotta carry the label. That's me.... I AM ON FYRE ENTERTAINMENT just like you are Heaterville. We might not think of ourselves as rappers but truth be told Dave, aint nobody gonna sell you like yourself, and aint nobody gonna push my shit like me....

The DJ''s need shit to play that the people wanna hear. The Promoters need venues and artists that can do more than just rap. And The Drive Can Only Go SO FAR IF PART OF THAT CHAIN IS BROKEN. AND 1 PART OF THAT CHAIN IS MISSIN, THE VENUE OWNER. VENUE OWNERS ONLY DRIVE IS MONEY. Now if either of us owned a venue would we still be doin what we do in the music game. Would we cater to this rap scene in san diego?

You can be the best rapper on the tightest industry beats. But if you spend all that time in the studio perfecting your craft chances are your only buildin a fanbase with the rappers who rollin into the studio and maybe everyone on your myspace account.

You can be the best producer in Dago but if the projects you workin on dont make it out of San Diego or the Bay then whats the point.

You still need to market beyond just postin a thread or sendin out a bulletin on your myspace.

The music and talent is here. The marketability is not. Rappers all branded as rappers. A character role.Nothin different or new about it.

i dont really wanna share my personal personal feelings on this issue cuz man....nah

what i wanna say is good luck and god bless (i dont believe in god but you do) all yall. i hope everyone pans out and i also am more than willing to help everyone in san diego in any way if i can.

its not fair for me to add fire....thats in no way productive...and i probably shouldnt have said what i said. i see the good in everyone and im about helping to illustrate that to everyone..for everyone...thats how we'll get over this...when niggas start showin some love...youll see it pop..but as long as your personal feelings and morals and standards rule how you look at the next person or group it wont happen...niggas gotta learn to humble themselves and be students again...be willing to work under another mans plans...if you have that much strength it will naturally shine and the people you work with will respect you as that type of person, someone whos willing to work hard for the goal.

if yall...or we, want to make san diego big...all of you niggas in this thread...look to the left and right of you...do you know that nigga? maybe you should get to know him and network. open the doors....
