It's late and I'm off on a tangent but San Diego has an interestin' history... Truly it does... Just gotta dig a little bit... And I don't know who got "poofed", "bum" or otherwise... But that's the 5th or 6th shooting I can remember in the last two years... And that's 5 or 6 too many for me...

I'm really the 3rd person perspective but I've been all over SD when I was rappin and fuckin with a lot of people on the rap tip.
In my experience between SF (being there on random weekends) and SD (lived there for 4 years) I can easily say that SF was way more grimey and gutter in my opinion. In SD people are real kicked back but shit can jump off... in SF and really the bay in general (again in my experience) people ain't as kicked back and are always willing to test you. I've had more shit jump off in a few weekends in SF than I had in years in SD - guns pulled on me and a friend on the bball court.. more my friend cuz I'm a layed back dude lol, fights etc. This does not mean it doesn't go down in SD, but if you asked me which hood out of the two I had to raise a family it would be 100% SD.
People will always be biased towards their city, but I'm not from either and that's my opinion.
I'm hopefully headed to SD this weekend... I'll probably see 10 shootouts now LOL

Honestly, I think San Diego is just good at hiding crime. I think a lot of crime goes unsolved or just not shown to the public. Being a border town, you best believe there's some crazy drug activity going on that other cities like LA and SF don't have to deal with. I think there's just more organized crime in SD. I'm sure there's some top dogs out in EastLake, La Jolla, Del Mar,... calling shots to the southern gangs. It's easy to be a con artist in SD, it offers the best of both worlds. I wouldn't be surprised if our criminals are just smarter than criminals from other cities because of Mexican drug cartel influence. I think they think twice about going trigger happy. I don't liking comparing, but I'll go out on a limb and say that gangs here in San Diego (especially Mexican gangs) are deeper in the drug game than those from LA/SF. I'd say SD is more business/organized crime oriented and cities like LA/SF bang more in the name of their city. I mean your from LOS, you just got to rep LA and bang in the name of LA. 
Man Ive heard the fuck outta all that cuz everytime Im out in whatever hood I gotta watch my back even tho nothin goes down, I still gotta keep wary, situations are sooo unpredictable out here...... I grew up in City Heights/Normal Heights then spent my last 8 yrs in PH & now I live in Bonita & its very laid back but I still gotta take care of my grandparents cuz they live rite by Fairmount/Poplar & thats where I first grew up but compared to all the other hoods, it aint sooo bad but still its a barrio......
Frisco is way more grimey then Daygo, Daygo is laid bac, reminds me of Sac or San Jo...........

being borm in frisco, raised up and down cali, and really comin into my own in dago.... i gotta pretty much agree with the sentiments above... san diego has a grimy ass side... if youre part of the grimy side then you g'on see grimy shit ALL DAY... this IS a border town and we DO have WAY more drug activity out here, based on ther simple fact that the shit thats goin to those other cities has to be DRUG DEALT OUT HERE FIRST to even GET there.... we have all the same shit that every other city has, but a much more white republican face presented to the world.... anyways, being honest, tha sco is grimier than dago... period.... anybody that really knows what they're talkin about will tell you that.... but like quik said... everywhere is just like somewhere else ( I aint from compton!).... so whatever's over there is over here and vice versa....
I aint sayin one way or the other but i will say the bay is more like down south . They come wit the slang but Itz hella as they say slower. So I think u got them twisted as far as being laid back. A place 2 rasise yo kids aint a bad thang is it? Or is everybody 2 hard 2 live safe.

tha bay aint nothin like tha south, southern cal cities is laid bac and more like tha south, Compton for example is a lot like tha south
Frisco don't remind me nothin of tha south, it got a east coast type fast pace big city feel to it, everythings concentrated in 1 area like NY/Chicago/Jersey etc....

when he meant that the bay seems southern i think he meant the surrounding cities outside of sf EG richmond vallejo epa or oakland which is true, leave san francisco and go down the 80 east and youll see farmland and shit, theres hella big plains and for the most part those cities have the same issue that southern cities have, boredom, aint shit to do in those spots so it has a slow down home feeling to it
american canyon could easily be in the middle of no-fucking-where in the south
