i think you are miss understanding Buddha Thought

one of the first concepts of buddhism is dekka roughly translated to suffering. (part of the four noble truths)

Say like someone who is materailistic, that person will only be happy when he gets his objects, but what happens when he doesn't? he suffers .

Nirvana can only be reach from within, not from without.
Ok?

Buddha could hang with hindus of his time. In fact they thought of him as one of his own. But left becuase he learned all that he could. HE was even an asceticism, but both those philophies couldn't bring him enlightenment, he was still suffering.

His philosophy is NOT loose. you have to follow his instructions to get to nirvana. And none of them say "Be happy with what ever makes you happy" my above post already proves that.

i suggest you pick up "the World's religions" by Huston Smith
Hinduism couldn't bring him enlightenment because it wasn't enough for "him".
That's why he went on his own to find something that would suit "him" better.
Budha has inspired many to write their own philosophies, hence all these different Eastern philosophies that sprout out after him.
For God's sake, even Bruce Lee wrote about his very own philosophy. And they're all the same, just like Budha's, "find your bliss".... Sure they might be different cosmeticly but inside their all the same.... I'm pointing this out to prove a point that "people" will always find the path of least resistance....

you make Buddhism like they should find happiness in what ever form suits them. That is wrong!

He has his little guidelines but it's just like n9newun said, Budhism is loose.
Budha spun off from Hinduism and now look at the many spin offs from him. It is this selfishness that leads people into trying to come up with their own philosophies.
Everyone's trying to do it now days, but Budha was the first....

He himself is a selfish role model.
He did a selfish thing when he left his own family behind to find himself.
Now look at his self centered philosophy.
You'll find plenty of his quotes inside this thread.

Allow me to sum it up like this...

Every relationship we have can be categorized in two ways: 1. (temporal relationships) those we have with other people, animals, things, etc. or, 2. the eternal relationship we have with The Supreme. Now, Buddhism may tell people to be peaceful toward others and that is good. But it FAILS to establish a relationship with The Supreme. If you go back and read the analogy I used about people being like a hand that keeps food for itself instead of feeding the stomach then you will understand in this way that for us to put our temporal relationships above our eternal relationship with God is likened to one hand taking a morsel of food and then giving it to another hand. The only way one hand can REALLY help another hand is to show it how to offer the food to the mouth so the entire body can be nourished. Similarly, the only real way one person can help another is to show them how to serve The Supreme rather than the self. Jesus portrayed this truth in a devotional way, just as many personalities from the Vedas, the greatest example is Lord Caitanya. Buddha did not do this in any capacity, and because of this it should be obvious that His philosophy was meant for those who would not accept God. For how does one establish a relationship with a void? You either serve God or illusion. There is no escaping this law...
