A rappers value is what that rapper thinks it is worth or what they have been getting from other people. If you as a artist paying for features don't think the value isn't there then don't pay for it. You cannot get offended by the price someone ask for cuz somebody prolly paid that price and created the market value. Like it or not.

The whole charging for verses came from 2Pac when he was going to drop that verse for Stretch & ended up getting shot at Quad Studios in NYC. He was giving him a Homie price of $800.00 for that verse. Only difference is, 2Pac was signed to a major at that time. He wasn't independent and claiming he was the hottest rapper where only his homies knew about him.

Thank God for the internet today because had it not been for this, we'd never even of heard of a whole lot of rappers who think they're famous. Then again, maybe it'd be better had it stayed that way LOL!

someone could have told you something was free and then asked you for compensation at the end regardless of what they were doing for you. it coulda been your gardner asking for gas money for his lawnmower, or your ex-wife asking for money to pay for the pizzas at chuck e. cheese on your kids birthday (ionno if you have a ex-wife lol).

either of those scenarios has more to do with you not having that arrangement ironed out and expectations set in that prior to completion of the agreement. it's not rappers being opportunistic, people are opportunistic.

it's up to participants in a contract, verbal or written to submit themselves to being taken advantage or to hold their ground and not be treated like a sucka. and it's not just the rap game this happens in, that's life. if you aren't depending on features you don't have to fuck with people who try to take advantage of you. if you are, you do.

i have paid for features but i go about it more from a producers point of view like if i think some one will sound good on a song and add value to a track then its worth it in my opinion. i see dumb ass people that just get hella features but they themselves arent even up to the caliber of their features and that kinda defeats the purpose. you end up with people looking @ you like a dumb ass. but either way its up to you to sell your records and no matter who you get on a track you still gotta sell your own shit cause breaking bread for a feature isnt guaranteed sales.

U CANT BE PROFESSIONAL AT SOMETHING UNLESS YOURE GETTIN PAID 4 IT...AND SELLIN OUT THE TRUNK DONT COUNT NO MORE. THERE ARE 1,000,000 RAPPERS. ABOUT 100 ARE ACTUALLY PROFESSIONAL. THATS A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE. I'VE HIT BILLBOARD....SOME PPL RESPECT THAT...I THINK ITS IDIOTIC 2 HATE ON ANYONE TRYIN 2 MAKE MOVES AND THERE ARE STILL REAL HUSTLERS IN THIS GAME. REAL HUSTLERS MIGHT RAP,PIMP,MIDDLE MAN MOB MOVES OR EVEN WORK A 9 TO 5. EVERYTHING I JUST MENTIONED MAKES MONEY IN AMERIKKKA. IF U WORK HARD ENOUGH...SOME KIND SOUL WILL PAY U 2 DO THE DIRTYWORK THEY DONT WANT 2. THATS JUST HOW IT IS. I SUPPORT PEOPLE WITH BUDGETS CUZ IT MAKES THE BUSINESS GO SMOOTH. ANYTHING ELSE IS A CIRCUS.TRUST ME, I KNOW. INSTEAD OF PROPHECIZING AND CRITICIZING SOME PEOPLE SHOULD BE ORGANIZING AND REVISING AND TRYIN 2 GET $$$. I get paid for nothing. All I do is pick up dead bodies & spend half the time on paperwork & help in the morgue. Yet it's a service that's needed. The rest of the time I'm bullshitting in here... LOVE MY JOB! I had picked up 16 bodies by the 13th of Nov. Easy money all day baby! And even after earning a hefty pay check for nothing doesn't mean I'll give it to a nobody who thinks he's a rap star.

Although, I'll break some bread, but understand that I'll only give you enough not to starve, but not enough to feed you for the rest of the month. And no, I won't take drugs for trade. Drugs don't feed my kids.

My opinion is some (artist, producers, wtf) think they are above all else. This game is like any other job, you got to work. If your work ethics, habits, presentation, as well as performance don't stand up to the job description, you don't get the job nigga. This shit is a grind, I understand niggas need a job and thats cool. But alot of niggas resumes are not built for this.

True but this "job" does require talent tho, not that its not noticeable by 90% of the rappers who call themselves a rapper. but thats another subject.

So does anyone have any marketing advice for new artists? Like what works and what doesn't. Or is that a secret recipe? LOL. Just wondering what other sites are out there and what other tools are used to reach new fans. What's a good place to advertise etc.

Spend money on taking trips to promote yourself. Get out there and book shows, print your fliers, don't spend money on coat tailing. There are no free rides in the game, it's been proven that nobody rappers don't equal a large amount of sales. Sales don't mean shit, it's the impact you make and your performance at shows. If all that is good, everything else will fall in it's place. Get out there and connect with the people.

I'm keep it real. Some of y'all are gonna have a hard time cuz you will not be able to separate you the rapper from you the business person. And I'm not talking about Gemini I'm talking in general. There is no one way to make it. Every artist is different and every situation is different. The key is identifying your audience and then going to them. Whether its the Internet, college campuses, liquor stores, concerts, poetry slams wherever it is. As an independent you need to maximize your dollar. The biggest mistake I see people make is trying to do EVERYTHING. Like I always say find your lane and own it.
