Bradley: I'd Rather Go Out Flaming Than Be a Coward!

By Ryan Burton

Undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Tim Bradley is in the early stages of his training camp for his June 9th showdown with Manny Pacquiao. The fight takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. In his most recent appearance on The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show, Bradley told us that his camp has started off very strong.

"Training camp has been well. I have been training for a little while now," Bradley stated. He said that his team has actually had to slow him down so that he doesn't peak too early. "I start sparring next week. I've dropped some weight and I feel really good. Everybody is trying to pull me back because I am super sharp already," he continued.

It seems that whenever Timn Bradley's name comes up so does the subject of headbutts. Following up on a question we received from a fan, we asked Bradley if he was worried about the possibility of headbutts occuring against Pacquiao. Bradley was a little defensive but pointed out that Pacquiao leads with his head and was cut from a headbutt in his most recent fight.

"Pacquiao got cut and had to get like 22 stiches when (Juan Manuel) Marquez butted him," Bradley told The Boxing Lab. "That wasn't with me. With Shane (Mosley) they clashed heads 5 or 6 times. Manny has a head first style. He leads with the head," Bradley explained.

With the exception of his most recent fight against Marquez, some of Pacquiao's recent opponents have been criticized for their efforts in the ring. Bradley wants to assure the fans that he is a hungry fighter and that his heart and effort won't be questioned after the fight."

"I want this fight to be as clean as possible. I want to win clean. I'd rather go out flaming with diginity knowing I gave everything I could give versus going out like a coward,"
Bradley concluded

I like the sound of that Tim. Don't go out like Mosley..

Speaking of Mosley, I think he's going to get knocked out. Mosley can't pull the trigger anymore, what is he doing fighting Canelo?

mosleys last win was January 2009. I think Tony's right - can't pull the trigger anymore. even against pac I can't remember him landing anything with any power. just back peddling for 12 rounds and that's the opposite way of fighting for shane. maybe he'll have just a little bit early, first couple rounds like against floyd, but sooner or later his body just won't be able to do the things he wants it to do. unless he finds the fountain of youth Canelo should win fairly easily.

"The fight card on June 9 will be a treat for all boxing fans,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “These will be great high-action fights as will be our main event with world champions Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley."

Jones (26-0, 19 KOs), of Philadelphia, Pa., will be making his first world title challenge in a professional career that began with a second-round TKO of Jason Thompson on December 16, 2005 in Philadelphia. The 5’11 Jones, 29, has collected NABA and NABO welterweight titles en route to his ascent to the top of the welterweight ratings, which has included victories over Henry Bruseles, Jesus Soto- Karass (twice), Irving Garcia and Hector Muñoz. Jones, who is co-promoted by Hall of Fame inductee Russell Peltz, returns to the ring after winning a dominating 12-round unanimous decision over Sebastian Lujan in an IBF title elimination bout, at Madison Square Garden on December 3.

Bailey (41-7, 36 KOs), of Miami, Fla., is no stranger to world championship fights having won world titles twice, so far, in his 16-year professional career. He captured his first world title, the WBO junior welterweight championship, in 1999, via a first-round knockout of defending champion Carlos Gonzalez. Bailey successfully defended the title twice, both by knockout, against Hector Lopez and Ray Martinez before losing it via split decision to Ener Julio in 2000 in a very exciting fight. In 2002 Bailey captured the WBA interim super lightweight belt with a third-round knockout of Demetrio Ceballos. Bailey, now trained by two-division world champion John David Jackson, earned his latest title shot with a first-round knockout of Jackson Osei-Bonsu, in an IBF title elimination bout in 2010.

Rigondeaux (9-0, 7 KOs), a two-time Olympic gold medalist and seven-time Cuban National Champion, lives in Miami, Fla. The Cuban southpaw, who made his professional debut in 2009, won the WBA interim super bantamweight title the following year, in only his seventh pro outing, on November 13, 2010, winning a split decision over former world champion Ricardo Cordoba. After successfully defending the title with a first-round knockout of undefeated former European super bantamweight champion Willie Casey on March 11, 2011, he dethroned the previously undefeated WBA super bantamweight champion Rico Ramos in the sixth round of their January 20 title fight. This will be Rigondeaux’s first defense of his world title.

Kennedy (17-1-2, 7 KOs), of Philadelphia, Pa., was an amateur standout, winning gold at the 2004 National Golden Gloves Championships and the U.S. National Under 19 Championships and the 2001 Pan American Cadet Championships. His five-year professional boasts a USBA junior featherweight title reign, which he won in 2009 by knocking out Francisco Rodriguez in the 10th round. He successfully defended that title twice with 12-round unanimous decisions over Jose Beranza and previously undefeated Jorge Diaz in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Kennedy also captured the NABA super bantamweight title in 2010, knocking out Alejandro Becerra in the 10th round. In his last fight, Kennedy was awarded a disputed draw with Chris Martin, on January 13, a fight most ringside observers thought was won by Kennedy.

Arce (60-6-2, 46 KOs), from Los Mochis, México, is one of boxing’s most exciting and popular fighters. The all-action warrior has won world championships or interim world titles in all five divisions between 108 and 122 pounds. A future first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee, Arce enters this fight riding a two-year, nine bout unbeaten streak which includes victories over Angky Angkota for the WBO junior bantamweight title, Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. for the WBO junior featherweight belt and Angkota again, this time for the WBO bantamweight crown, the title Arce currently holds.

Rojas (18-1-1, 13 KOs), from Caguas, Puerto Rico, enters this fight riding a two-year, six-bout unbeaten streak. Known for his aggressive style, good punching power in both hands, impressive skills and movement and a strong amateur background with close to 200 amateur fights, Rojas, 25, is ready to take the next step in going toe-to-toe with the great Arce.

The Pacquiao-Bradley world championship telecast, which begins at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT, will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View and will be available to more than 92 million pay-per-view homes. Alex Ariza rolls the dice, risks losing Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan for JC Chavez

Michael Marley

By all accounts, Alex Ariza is a competent conditioning guru for top flight boxers.
He is proabably not as fantastic and unlimited in ability as his inflated ego makes him out to be but, make no mistake, Ariza is not on the payroll of Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. becuse his daddy got him the plum gigs, nothing like that.
But I'm still stunned by the headstrong Ariza's decision to abandon his best paymaster, meaning Pacman, for two to three weeks and to also leave Khan in the training lurch in Baguio City, Philippines, while he jetted back to North America to concentrate on Chavez.
I hesistated to even broach this marginal topic, thinking it might just be gossip, mere fodder for a Tim Bradley-Pacman HBO 24/7 telenovela thread.
And I'm sure, given Congressman Pacquiao's forgiving nature, that he will take Ariza back into the fold when Team Pacquiao decamps to Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in the sleaziest section of Hollyweird.
Yeah, I know, Drama King Ariza made a big show out of how he got Bossmanny's permission to abandon ship and run to Chavez chores.
But I'm reminded of Michael Corleone in "The Godfather" when he warned idiot brother Fredo, who sucked up to Moe Greene, to never go against the family.
Ariza's no dummy so why would he risk losing Pacman as a client and his work Khan in favor of the more marginal Chavez?
Pacquiao is know for keeping friends close and enemies closer so which category does he put Ariza in at this point?
It's also clear that revered Coach Roach is done with cuddling with Ariza and I know for a fact that Roach has directly or indirectly made approaches to conditioning guru and former BALCO Bad Boy Victor Conte about working with Roach's top fighters going forward.
Conte despises Ariza and vice versa. Conte has publicly labeled Ariza a drug cheater and, at least so far, Ariza has taken no legal action against the Bay Area expert.
I don't know where the Ariza saga will wind up but, trust me, it's not over with the story line that Megamanny will embrace him at the Wild Card.
Chavez fights Andy Lee June 16, which is one week prior to Pacman's bout against Bradley and several weeks before Khan's crucial rematch against Lamont Peterson.
Ariza has rolled the dice.
Will he come up snake eyes?
Stay tuned.

What's up with the Manny camp??

you mean what's up with Ariza. He's kind of a weird guy tbh and in all the 24/7's to me, it doesn't seem he particularly likes being there, especially in the Philippines. I think people are making a big stink out of nothing. He says he's going to meet back up with Pac in a couple weeks so no biggie. He does have major funk with Bob Arum and Koncz, but they don't pay his bills, he gets paid by Freddie Roach and the fighters.

Manny better be ready for Bradley. Manny you're not fighting a slow old 38 yr old man, or some damaged fighter coming off a KO loss. If Manny knocks out Bradley he gets big time props from me. Bradley will be in shape and he will have a few gameplans for the fight. This is going to be a good ass fight.

so Pac is trying to be funny by saying "hunter".........and he isn't taking Bradley serious?

Come on fellas....Pac has deserved the right to tell jokes and be funny. It's Bradley who is fighting the #1P4P......not vice-versa...

Should be a good fight. Bradley seems like a real humble dude.
