the difference is,i really dont buy many rap albums. mainly due to the fact that there hasnt been an album worthy of it in the past like 6 months. so i am still downloading alot of rap music and listening to my fair share. but once i get to the record store i cant get myself to buy a bunch of mediocre rap albums for the sake of "supporting".

its the opposite with the rock albums lately. these are some of the best rock albums i have ever heard in my life. i feel obligated to buy them. feel guilty when i dont. used to be that way with hip hop but not anymore

based on what sections i buy pretty much all my albums at rasputins...i listen to alot of "punk"

always suprised on how much shit in that section for some reason

manipulator really grew on me.didnt like it very much when i first heard. just made me want to listen to doppleganger again. now its one of my favorite albums,been listening to it alot lately

...and after some thought in my truck on the ride home,i have come to the conclusion that from autumn to ashes is probably my favorite band right now. there hasnt been a day since i first heard them that the fiction we live or holding a wolf hasnt been played at least once in a day. no bullshit the fiction we live has been on repeat in my truck for 3 straight weeks. no track skipping,no need to change cds...nothing.

and big fan of portugal. always wanted to pick up one of their albums and hadnt heard church mouth enough to give it a purchase so went for the album i was already a big fan of

you know what sucks, is when the little computer seach thing at rasputins say they have something in stock but you still cant find it...i would rather say it doesnt have one at all then send me on some 45 min mission.

i was looking for three-wake pig. it said that had one in the metal section. i was what the fuck? metal? oh well,i'll try it. nothing there. so i think to myself,that shit doesnt belong in this metal section,maybe someobdy smart moved into rock...nope. then i think to myself,everything i am looking for in this place is always in punk,no matter what it is. punk is like the misc shit jake likes section...but still no. ask the guy and he did the same exact thing i did. he was like metal? what the fuck? haha. so me and him walk around for another 20 mins doing the same shit i just did. needless to say,i left...fuck rasputins and their false hopes

Best MTB album in my opinon. But you can't go wrong with anything they put out.

Jake you should check out Sharks Keep Moving if you haven't yet. It's MTB lead singer's band before MTB got together. It's like a mix of MTB's sound and math rock. I like MTB a lot more but it's still some really good stuff.

oh yeah,forgot to get back to you on that,thanks for the link,album is real good.

i searched in rasputins database which pretty much has every album i have ever thought of (even if its not carried in their store) and NOTHING came up for teeth of mammals. i think that album is just a myth.

but anyway,back on the subject at hand

Haha, I actually do have that on my wall. But I think the person with the Ant G cut out is 1 Deep lol.

I don't think you are ever going to be able to find Teeth of Mammals in stores. I'll let you know when they get some in stock theirselves. I'm just going to buy it from them

One of the best albums to come out in 2006.

I found this introspective review of the album by lead singer John Haughm on the net, pretty interesting to see what he thinks of his bands own songs...

01. Limbs

One of my favorites on the album. It is a nice opening track that reminds me of the trip to Port Angeles, WA where I wrote it.

02. Falling Snow

This one evolved quite a bit and ended up being a lot different than on the demo. We almost scrapped this song entirely but the album would've been 10 minutes shorter without it. I thought it had potential so we re-worked it.

03. This White Mountain On Which You Will Die

One time I drove to the Timberline Lodge, which sits half-way to the summit of Mt Hood. It was night but I could see the faint outline of the enormous snowy peak looking down at me. It had this quiet, majestic, and slightly foreboding presence to it. I wanted to capture the feeling it exuded that night somehow with music so I described it to Chris and we worked together on this short ambient piece. It took a couple attempts but I think we finally found the right feeling and the piece became this segue-way between "Falling Snow" and "Fire Above, Ice Below".

04. Fire Above, Ice Below

I actually like the demo version of this song more. The middle section is one of my favorite moments on the album but, other than that, I feel that something got lost in the transition from the demo recording to the album recording. Needless to say, this is probably my least favorite song on the album.

05. Not Unlike The Waves

Another song that evolved a lot. I think this is the perfect representation of Agalloch in 2006.

06. Our Fortress Is Burning... I

Another ok song. Not one of my favorites but it is more of an intro anyway…

07. Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds

I think this is the best example of post rock meeting black metal. I like the build, the ebb and flow, and the climax.

08. Our Fortress Is Burning... III - The Grain

This was the first piece of the trilogy to be written. Chris approached me with this drone thing he was working on and I absolutely loved it. It had to be on the album somehow. So I used it as inspiration to build the rest of the trilogy. Most people seem to think we put it on the album as filler but it is actually quite the opposite. Without "The Grain", the entire "Fortress" trilogy wouldn't exist. I also sent "The Grain" to Tolonen to inspire him while drawing the charred, falling bird that adorns the slipcase.

Interesting. Fire Above, Ice Below is actually one of my favorites from the album, after Not Unlike the Waves (wtf is that song about anyway? It sounds like the Northern Lights, but for some reason I think it's more than that).

That album is easily my favorite album of 2006.
