Katatonia is good as hell. It took me a long time to get into them... in the same way it took me too long to get into Opeth.. (now im an opeth fanatic, anyone else? Ghost Reveries is near flawless progressive-metal imo).
opeth is one of the greatest bands this world has been blessed with.. their whole discography is amazing, there style is un-rivaled, yet so developed and sophisticated.. its some of the most abrasive music you will find, yet the acoustic interludes blend so well, last week i bought ghost reveries special edition and the dvd was really good too.. i dont understand how opeth could be considered to have an aquired taste, they are easily the most accessable death metal out there

Opeth is awesome.

Ahh, Mr. Bungle. I love that fucking album. Mike Patton is the man.

What do you think of Amputechture Yayarea? I just recently went back and listend to it and it is actually really fucking good. I think with both Amputechture and Francis the Mute I was trying to compare them to De-Loused too much and not letting them stand on their own. The Mars Volta will never make another De-Loused type of album, that will always be their masterpiece, but once I listened to their other two albums for what they are I liked them a lot more even if they do have some not so great moments to them.

Do you listen to At the Drive-In at all?

i couldnt really ever get into at the drive in, the singer in a band is too important to me for me to just say "a couple of the same guys are in this band from mars, so automatically i like it"... as for deloused, that was the first album i bought by mars and although i think its their best, its not much better than amputechture... i think that above all else, mars volta has captured an unpredictability in their records, the first song is usually slow then the bridge to the second song is abrupt but still manages to sound great. i downloaded frances the mute, but havent given it a good listen yet, im still dissecting deloused and amputechture (theres always something new you hear, every time you listen)

I feel what you are saying, I go back and forth if I like Mars Volta or ATDI more. I mean it's two totally different types of music. You know it's the same singer from Mars Volta and ATDI right? Cedric, but I guess with ATDI it was more screaming/yelling and maybe a 1/4 at most singing.
