He's been on a little bit of a tear lately cuz treos dissed him on an interview last week. He wrote this on fleethefactory.com (treos/tdh fansite) last night...
I know this isnt addressing anyone's comments or questions about the dear hunter, and this isnt dear hunter related, and that there is in fact a specific other forum where this should be posted, but im putting it here because I feel like this is my safe side of the internet, and its for people who care to read it.
People should really stop mentioning me in relation to TREOS. Its ironic that this message is going on the TREOS forum, where I have been lucky enough to get a section for the dear hunter. But, please stop bringing me up. For the people who are really into the dear hunter, I appreciate the support, and love you, but it isnt fair to anyone. It's hard enough to make a record, and even harder to make a record with stress and expectations. Though mine are the exact opposite frustrations and stresses, I can still understand. Though I havent been successful in sustaining a comfortable relationship with any of the members of TREOS, I can say that I care about the, and their creativity, and that they deserve to move on without having to see any shit about me. We dealt with the Ben aftershocks when I was there, and it was pointless. Lets just support them in their future and enjoy what they have to offer in light of whatever past there was.
That being said- in response to the numerous posts I have seen, and heard of since my departure of the band, there are a few things that simply need to be set straight, for no other reason than my selfish ego.
The band didnt have 1/2 a record written when I found my way into the band. The music written at the time of my entrance was part of what became the 5 song EP which was self released, keeping in mind the 2 transitional tracks were tracks written and recorded by me in andrew's basement. The only complete song was the art of subversion.
The songs written with me in the group, of which I put tremendous amount of effort into were Prologue, Planning a Prison Break, The Rival Cycle, The Evidence (written in the studio during the recording of BTHATS), Then I defy you, stars, Intermission (based on a transition from the ep, and recorded and produced by me in spare time at the studio), This Armistice (started as a transition they used to play live called indian burial ground, and changed around, at one point we were trying to use the dear hunter song "camera" for part of it- and when I wrote the chorus for armistice- the guys initially didnt care for it), Broadcast Quality, Flee The factory, Venona, and Epilogue (which was originally entirely sequenced by me at a practice early on)...
Also, my involvement with lyrics- The songs I gave a great deal of lyrics to were - The rival cycle, the evidence, then i defy you stars, this armistace, broadcast quality, flee the factory, venona. I gave a few lines here and there to others, but that list of songs includes all the tracks for which brendan and I sat and wrote together.
I know no one from either side was going to say all this. I know that it was probably better that no one did. I know its kind of lurking, and very late in the game to bring this up. But Im tired of chewing back my vomit every time someone asks me "Didnt they write most of the record before you got there", or "I liked the lyrics, and then found out they werent yours."
This is the way it is. Its not really an open discussion, and I wouldn't expect any rebuttles, because there are no facts to dispute.
But the point of all of this is simply this. there was a long time where I observed people saying they were "afraid about" this or that or whatever, and Ive thought for a long time that it was ill informed. I also saw many people defending treos by saying I had no real role in the band beyond my sequencing and screaming. What Im saying is that everyone should know the way it is. The record is out, its awesome, so everyone who was scared doesnt have to be, and everyone who was defensive doesnt have to be. Just enjoy, stop looking for things to argue about. I highly doubt that when they were creating the record they were saying "I sure hope people use this to argue on the internet." we are both parts of bands who wish to take you away from the BS of the everyday and give you something beautiful.
So go listen and close your eyes and stop worrying about what you have to say about it.
And @ Jake-
